I can't give Phoenix Medcom a good rating because there were some major bumps in the road with management. I worked for them a total of 8 years. The people in management are very moody; if they are in a good mood, they leave you alone, but if in a bad mood, they will be very short and snippy with their answers. Management will also gossip about an employee with that employee's peers, which is very unprofessional. If you email a question, they might tell you a snippy answer and then go into a lengthy email about other employees who are having difficulties with other work issues. This always made me wonder what they were saying to my peers behind my back.

Even though the hours are supposedly set by you, they will push you to work the hours they want you to work. For instance, if you just want to work part-time 4 hours a day, they may let you start with that, but then talk you into working 5 hours one week because they are short-staffed, and they will reassure you that after the one week, you can go back to 4 hours, but then they will be short-staffed the next week and ask you to just do 5 hours for one more week, and it continues. After you are firmly entrenched in 5 hours a week as your norm, they will start asking for 6 hours for "just one week," and it continues from there until you end up working 8 hours a day for them and find yourself wondering how you ever got roped into full-time when you were supposed to only be part-time. They also will maneuver your hours into whatever hours work best for them and ask you to just change your schedule for one week, but then it goes as above and becomes 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and so on until you realize one day that you are working the full-time midnight shift or every weekend and can't get out of it. 

They manipulate you from being an independent contractor into being a full-time employee without benefits, but because they claim that you volunteered to do it and always had the choice to say no (which will result in you no longer receiving work), there is nothing you can do about it. Beware of this company. The people they have in management are master manipulators. The only good thing was that the pay is decent if you are willing to work hard and jump through all their little hoops.

No response to emails regarding being added to clinics for adequate work flow, even though suggested and insinuated by management that work is available.  Management consistently change allowed providers and expect near perfection on a handful of jobs made available to work on, not adhering to 2-day QA requirements,  while instruction given is  based on conflicting work flow guide, sample reports, QA, and more than one manager.  Will talk in circles when presented with an issue and appears to not grasp simple terminology and quick resolve.  Changes pay when not meeting jobs per hour because of inconsistent access to same physicians after stating will keep prior average job per hour and pay as performance permits over time.  Supplies outdated laptop and charges per pay period.  All in all, very rude and very poorly managed and would never recommend to anyone.  Constantly losing accounts and unable to provide adequate work to sustain a living.

Typical day of work when actually having work consisted of urgent distracting emails to focus on this or that, while simultaneously constantly switching from one physician to another, making it near impossible to stay on task.  Ridiculous reviews/corrections from QA (original scribe work with changes made by QA to consist of typos and incorrect formatting more than once) that ultimately turn out to be correct on Scribe’s end often in personal experience.  Can only consistently supply side-by-sides of correctly done work and not of work that supposedly required “multiple” QA corrections, even when requested.  Push jobs per hour and once that is met and in rhythm, switch physicians causing a new learning curve and obliterates jobs per hour quota, causing a major downshift in pay. 

It is a flexible workday where you're only required to work 4-6 hours per day, but that's about the only true bonus of the job. You're hired as an independent contractor, so you don't get paid for some of your time, such as the time spent logging work and doing other behind-the scenes stuff besides actually typing charts. No benefits of course, since you're not an employee, which also means no paid time off. 

The pay scale is ridiculous. The flat rate is $15/hr, but you're eligible for $17/hr if you work at least 4 hours per day and manage two charts an hour. You're eligible for $20/hr if you work your minimum hours and do 3 or more charts an hour. That sounds nice, but that isn't how it really works. As an IC, you're doing a lot of work you're not getting paid for. Every few weeks, they come out with a new requirement that you have to satisfy in order to qualify for the bonus pay, such as doing a minimum required amount of work for a specific account, even though there isn't enough work in that one account for everyone. 

On top of that, the culture is really off-putting. Every email you get is in all caps and marked urgent. There's a real sense of panic behind most of the communication you get, and it all feels very unprofessional, not to mention stressful. 

The retention rate doesn't seem to be very good. They keep bringing on new doctors and making more work while they're losing employees, leading to a lot of work that needs to be done and no one to pick up the slack. The whole operation seems like a mess. 

The system they use for typing charts is down about once a week, and it lags all the time. It makes trying to get anything don really frustrating. 

They hire IC but then expect you to work as if you were employed through the compnay. Management is very unprofessional and do not contact you regarding anything unless it is to degrade you in an email about something you did wrong. They are against scribes comminucating with each other  and was told we are not to be friends with other scribes. The favoritism is blatantly obvious. Do not attempt to point out a mistake they made on their end or you will have them target you for months on end. They never keep scribes up to date on anything going on at the company even as they loose account after account and eventually have 0 accounts. The pay is horrible. They want you to "work" 4 hour blocks but this is not just 4 hours. It will turn into 8 or more because they only pay by the minutes you are physically typing in a report. They call it a bonus but in reality it is not a bonus at all but a pay scale of 15 to 20 per hour. Most likely you will not reach the 20 and if you do they will try to find a reason to dock your pay. Even when you do go above and beyond that will never be acknowledged and they will still create positions for family and friends and give them work first even if you've been an IC with them for years. This is a very unstable company and I would not recommend applying here at all. Pay is low, management is horrible, job stability is absolutely awful and communication is nonexistent. 

As a mother of 2 it became very necessary to find work from home as a supplement to my husbands income. Most jobs I found and applied for were too good to be true and gimmicky. Finally I found Pheonix Medcom. As an LPN I had quite a bit of experience in PA's, so I applied. At first I didn't hear anything. However, I was able to follow up on my application weekly. All staff were very kind and helpful. Finally, though it took a while, I got my interviews. I have just completed my 10 days of orientation and I am thanking God for giving this job to me! I have never had this in depth of training before. I feel very prepared to start my work, as this was something I was nervous about, since working from home you are on your own a lot. But all of the managers and people who help you get set up are very helpful and respond to emails very quickly. There are also manuals for every question and protocol out there! It is so helpful and sets you up for success! I am excited about the transaction pay set up as it makes each PA a little less painful knowing you get paid for all the extra steps you take that went unrecognized in the office. If you are on the fence about applying here at Pheonix Medcom, don't hesitate any longer! It just takes self discipline, consistency, and hard work, but you will be satisfied with this job! 

Phoenix has provided me with exceptional resources to make my job and my work successful. They are by far the most organized and capable team I have ever been a part of. Prior to working with them, I had been involved in the medical field for several years and every employer I had been with had a very fast paced culture. There was not nearly as much attention to detail as there could have been due to staffing issues, urgency, etc... While this is still fast paced - it's as fast as you make it. I enjoy that I control my paycheck and I know I won't be hindered if I want to do more than what is expected. Training was excellent and very informative. If you are willing to learn, they are willing to teach and if you want to succeed, you will. There is always an opportunity to earn more and learn more. The most difficult part of the job is the wait times for insurance carriers but even then, Phoenix will provide you options like a second phone line or work that can be done online so you meet your production quota or exceed them. Overall, I could not be happier with the decision to partner with this company. The hiring process seemed a little long but it was definitely worth the wait. 

I recently took a position with this company thinking that the benefits of working remotely would compensate for the pay cut I had to take. I was wrong, there is an unwillingness to slow down training even if it’s for another week.  Suffering from a number of mental health disorders I requested an adjustment on hours (just until I could get acclimated) and was denied because I made the mistake of saying it was too stressful for me.  I felt an enormous amount of pressure to be perfect or your paycheck would eventually be docked for each mistake made (more than you make) and that’s what was stressful. You are expected to do hours of logging after hours which means your not getting paid.  Employees are afraid to speak up with the thought they will get terminated because they aren’t getting it. Training is good if you are true to your resume and have experience the only issue is it’s very rushed and not enough time to get acclimated before being taught another department.  My experience and skills are more than capable of doing this job but the expectations and demands are unrealistic for the compensation paid and was not worth the pay cut. If you can handle high pressure or are highly medicated on Xanax than this is the job for you.

I enjoy working with Phoenix. This is the kind of job that you get out of it what you put into it. You want to work from home and work hard? Are you willing to be a team member, but also realize that YOU are the one that determines how your work goes? You will be just fine. The management team is excellent. While they are always there if you need them they do not micro-manage you to death and if you make a mistake, they help you, teach you and guide you to be better. I spend my day taking care of the patients, the doctors, and the staff from home. Once my day is done, there is no awful drive. There are no office politics and this is probably one of the most peaceful jobs I have worked in YEARS. While the work is plentiful and I stay busy from the time I sit at my desk until the time I shut down my computer, I don't feel the stress that I used to have from working a "9-5". Being an IC is definitely a new experience, but in my opinion, it's the better experience. The people are great, the clients are great and the insurance....well, it's insurance. Here's to hopefully enjoying many years to come with a fantastic company and excellent people.

Phoenix is an excellent company to work for. I had worked in IT part time and was challenged everyday, valued as an employee and person and gained significant and valuable work experience for later down the road. I worked this role as a supplement to my income from self-employed contract work as a cybersecurity consultant. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. While I cannot speak for the remote contract roles, the corporate office was wonderful. I felt a family energy from day one. Everybody likes one another, works well together, and appreciates you as a person. Management wanted nothing more than for me to succeed and advance my career. I told them from the start that I was running a little contracting company and they totally understood that it was my main project.

I do however believe that there is one place the company lacks, the ability for advancement. IT was a two man team, one full time and one part time. As the part time employee my only room to advance would have been from the full time employee leaving.

Finally, as a recent college grad, I would highly recommend this part time IT role for a college student.

A typical day involved patient interaction, which I enjoyed and found rewarding. I learned to adapt quickly and handle different situations with professionalism. Management was inconsistent one manager would say one thing and another would correct it differently, which made training confusing. Workplace culture was supportive on the patient side but the pay structure and scheduling model are not sustainable, especially living in California. The hardest part was working extremely long hours (starting 5 AM PST to match Eastern time) yet only making about $200 in two weeks. The most enjoyable part was the positive interactions with patients and being able to help them.
