I joined the company and quickly moved into a highly specialized operational role where my skills were developed primarily through internal training and certification. For the majority of my tenure, my performance was strong and went without complaint, which speaks to the quality of the internal learning structure and my commitment to the position.
However, toward the end of my term, I experienced significant concerns regarding the consistency and fairness of management and disciplinary processes. I went from having a clean record to facing formal discipline extremely rapidly, often for minor or highly contextual issues. This sudden shift suggests a lack of managerial transparency or consistent performance metrics being applied across the board.
My primary concern revolves around the equitable application of company protocol. I observed what appeared to be significant inconsistencies in how performance issues—even those handled jointly—were attributed and addressed among staff members. This raises questions about whether internal evaluations are conducted objectively or if they are influenced by factors unrelated to job performance, such as personal background or professional credentials.
The final administrative handling of my departure was deeply problematic. The process was abrupt, lacked consistency, and the reasoning provided was immediately reversed and changed within a very short timeframe. This suggests fundamental flaws in the internal decision-making process and communication structure, particularly concerning sensitive HR matters.
Prospective employees, especially those moving into specialized roles through internal pathways, should seek clarity on:
1. The objective standards for performance and disciplinary action.
2. The company’s commitment to applying these standards equally to all employees, regardless of educational background or tenure.

I recommend exercising caution due to concerns over fairness in treatment and the integrity of administrative and termination processes.

Work consists of taking vitals, ensuring patients don't over-eat any snacks, and light cleaning around the clinic. I got to witness various mental illnesses and how symptoms may manifest. These patients aren't extremely acute, but it does allow a beginner psychologist to see how mental illness affects behavior. I also got to see how the research medications affect the patients and how patients were before being taken off their usual medication.

Management is disorganized. There's only one manager and they work almost 24/7, I feel really bad for them. The workplace doesn't exactly have streamlined communication. New policies are added and told via word of mouth, or pieces of paper on the wall. Training is sparse. Not every technician gets the same amount of training, and the quality depends on who trains you.

The most enjoyable part of the job is flexibility in work time, fun co-workers, realistic/relaxed attitudes of said co-workers, and the patients (can be for good or bad things). If you're not used to mental illness or have bad conflict resolution skills, this job is not recommended; you can learn these skills but it's going to be a little difficult. 

The job itself gives great tools to be successful (car, credit card, promotional materials), but good luck navigating the waters on your own. The office atmosphere is unpleasant, employees are either unhappy or in their "clique" and don't want to give you the time of day. Training lacks as well, so hopefully you are well experienced and knowledgeable for the position you take without the need for help or someone to bounce ideas off on. Your office "team" will say they are there for you, but won't provide guidance/assistance to help you be successful. If you ask anyone a question, you get different answers which are apparently "all wrong" to the next. Management is all in TX, which leaves the office in IL with no leadership or experienced person to turn to in the office; upper management will talk negatively on others as well when given any opportunity to bring each other down. Sure you can call a supervisor, but good luck talking to them without being rushed off the phone. Also, plan to be independent each day as you will be the only member of recruitment in the Chicagoland area. Needless to say, turnover is high here, and figured out why very quickly. If you want a job where you feel lonely, unsupported, and don't receive clarity, this is the job for you! Also to note: good luck getting a clear answer about benefits such as medical and 401k. 

Working as a Mental Health Tech at Pillar Clinical research, has been a truly rewarding experience. A typical day involves supporting participants with their daily routines and ensuring a safe and structured environment. Each day brings something new, which makes the work both engaging and meaningful.
I’ve learned so much at Pillar and these are valuable experiences that I know will help me in my career in the mental health field.
Management has been approachable, supportive, and encouraging. They create an environment where questions are welcomed, teamwork is emphasized, and employees feel valued.
Coworkers look out for one another and work together as a team, which makes even the busiest days run smoothly.
The most enjoyable part of the role is engaging with participants and helping them stay active through a variety of daily activities. Contributing to their well-being and knowing I’ve made a positive difference, even in small ways, makes the work incredibly rewarding.
I would highly recommend Pillar Clinical Research. I am very happy to be working there.



Pillar provided the distinguished leadership that I had always been in search of since beginning my journey in psychology. Here I received the tools, care and direction needed to learn and succeed both in nursing and recruitment. During my time there I saw positive changes that made a difference in the lives of the population we served. During my time here I felt appreciated, valued and well compensated for my hard work. During my time here I felt like I was trusted and not necessarily put into a system of micromanagement. During my time here I was challenged to grow while taking on a culture and job title which had perfectly fit my personality. Overall I have no complaints and it starts with leadership. The nurse manager is great. HR is great. The CEO is great and involved. You can literally call her 24/7. The Director of operations is great. The Director of recruitment is great. That is all. 

There is no job security here. The company’s promises are cheap and their actions never speak louder than their words. There is no guarantees you will get an annual raise and no guarantee you will get to grow in the company for years to come

Awful. Pathetic excuse of a place that "honors mental health". There is no training, there is no organization, and there is no respect for the amount of work put on you. 
It is a shame I wasted so much time into this company that did not value my work ethic. Do not work here if you have any self respect.

Great team work and very healthy work/life balance. Excellent training and opportunity for advancements. Good pay and benefits and also very rewarding work. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Busy studies. However,  the rewards outweigh any stress! This company believes in taking care of employees and that their mental health needs are met as well. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great team work! Friendly and compassionate employees and management as well!

Salaries vary wildly ( +/- 10,000 per year) for entry level positions and 0 experience - salary negotiation is non-existent; Office politics are rampant. Ethically questionable healthcare practices and drug use is widespread among the patients in the unit. No site director for last 10 months, and CEO is not stationed in Texas thus salary is reflective of Arkansas where rent is 1/2 of DFW.

The most stressful part about my job would be not being able to help more patients.

The work environment is very busy but upbeat and lighthearted.

My day consists of phone calls, travel and patient involvement.
