I enjoyed driving to the rig locations each day, this was an opportunity to plan your day and get ready for what ever the day may bring. With this much seat time I got to see lots of at risk behavior on the road, its no wonder people die everyday on our nations highways. Once on location you could be doing any or all of the following; safety stand down, audit, inspection, investigation, observation process, OSHA compliance, administrative support, close out action items or corrective actions. I enjoyed spending time with the rig hands and getting to know them at a personal level. Building relationships that help build a safety culture that functioned even when I was not there to monitor their behaviors. Holding safety meetings and getting input from them about their concerns and what I could do to address them. Working closely with Rig Managers and supporting them in areas that were outside my scope of responsibility (as far as my manager was concerned). Most all the rig hands shared my passion for working safely and helped to identify and eliminate those who refused to get with the program when given the opportunity. The biggest problem was there was too much to do and not enough time to get it done. It was difficult to be where you were needed all the time and you had to make some hard choices. Worst of all was without notice I was terminated without being able to thank all the employees who were responsible for my success as a Safety Professional and how much I appreciated their support every time I visited their rigs.

I left a competing company to come on board after PD (tried) to buy out another company but at the last minute was denied or beat out by another company. Was hired on as a Driller and assigned rig in Shreveport La. after a week of trying to call their rediculous HR department recruiters With no answer to emails, text or calls I was called by a lady from Midland Tx telling me the only spot available was a floor job and that their UNFORTUNATELY we’re no drilling jobs. And in her on words when I explained to her that I hired on as a Driller/AD 6 hrs closer to the house she replied with $&IT HAPPENS and it’s take it or leave it. never answers the phone when you try to contact someone for any issues. Process in which check stubs are distributed is a joke and non existent. Over all Bad experiance. You don’t hire someone on board by false promises and not keeping your word. ROUGHNECKS keep office personnel paid.

Both Tool pushers were good. One from Canada was over the top sometimes but I liked him.

A typical day consists of 12 hours of work in all types of weather conditions, morning safety meetings every day, managing a crew of 5, reporting to a tool pusher regularly on how the rig is running, break fixes if necessary, and documenting rig progress/issues. I have learned the heavy importance of safety in this field, the passion and respect for the work, every position leading to the Rig Manager position and the importance of strong leadership and how that can make or break your crew. I have been a loyal employee of Precision Drilling (was formerly known as GreyWolf Drilling) for 15 years and never had issues with my leaders or reporting managers until recently. The workplace culture was positive and got along with almost everyone. I'm an easy going individual and like to make the most of my long days with my work family. We work hard, play hard. The hardest part of the job were the days away from my family but enjoyed coming back home for 14 days straight. My schedule was 14 days on and 14 days off but it became part of life. The most enjoyable part of the job was the work family/friends created during my time with Precision.

Learn something new every day. The job is as tough as they come, but the more I learned the easier it got. 
 The safety and training culture at Precision was the best I have ever encountered. They hold nothing back in training staff, and allow you to learn at a much greater rate than any other drilling company I ever worked for. 
 The men I worked with were professional, knowledgeable, and willing to share all the tricks of the trade. I was lucky enough to work with a great crew, and hope to work for precision again sometime. 
 The job is both physically demanding, and mentally strenuous. This is not just a job, it's a sport. Those who don't make the cut are replaced until good teams are built. High safety and performance standards are expected of all their employees. 
 Harsh weather and hard work are part of daily life on the rigs,but the hardest part of the job for many is the time spent away from friends and family. Over the years I've missed a lot of holidays and family events, but for me the compensation and experience was worth it.
 The best part of working for P.D. was their compensation and time off. The bills were always paid, and I had plenty of time off.

I did my job for over a year with them. They talk to you how ever they feel like it and do not have any respect for you. Management is terrible. The worst I've ever seen. The pusher is tweaking on meth. The drillers think they are the best and they can barely speak English. All team members are terrible and do not work together. I asked for a transfer after a year and they denied me. Twice. Even though I was not entitled to be in west Texas and they told me I could transfer after 6 months to south east TX or Louisiana if they had spots. They had spots they just denied me. If you get on rig 312 a break handle rig you are stuck there no matter what. They fired me for my transmission going out on the way to work and I've never been late and couldn't make it one day. Terrible company. The worst drilling company ever. Unless you are bilingual in the Spanish language  I wouldn't apply there. Terrible terrible place. Rush rush rush rush rush even with pressure washing. They run you dry for  little money. And they don't pay on times when they are supposed to. They just put your check on your next week's check then at that its short. They don't care about employees.

When getting on tower make proper relief with personnel you are takings place then check all equipment and maintenance. Then make sure all other members of crew have done there responsibilities, get with personnel and provide them with there job task that u want or need done by them. Every day if you do your job correct u can always learn something by asking questions in proper manner of why that needs to be done or why it is to be done that way. No one in the oilfield knows everything cause no one is perfect, to me the hardest part of the job is when you ask someone to do something and they don't do the task for you when it need to be done and  to find the correct manner in how to approach the person and talk to him in why it needs to be done when asked of him with loosing your cool. The thing I enjoy most about my job is the job its self I was born to be a oilfield worker it runs threw my familys blood I enjoy making the money for the companies we driller for cause if they make money we make money but I also enjoy when we can do the job safely and no one gets hurt and everyone goes home the same way they came.

I really enjoyed my 7 years with Precision Drilling and the family aspect of the company. However this is fully dependent on what crew you’re put on and if you get a crew of “old schoolers” get a transfer. I feel that the entire oilfield is trying to make a change and Pd for the most part has a great program. As far as corporate goes they do hold true to their employees and they do what they say. As far as what actually goes on out the rig it’s different, sometimes they do have your back and sometimes they stab you in the back. I would still be working at Precision, however I felt that it was getting very political and that the old schoolers need to be weeded out for the change to actually happen. The old schoolers are extremely irrational, unmotivating, and extremely dishonest. When the office staff comes out everything is by the book and safety is implemented greatly, as soon as they leave, it’s back to hurry hurry hurry. I found it very confusing and I don’t like dishonesty especially in someone who is supposed to be a leader.

Junkiest rig I've ever been on, it wasn't old, they will only spend money on cleaning supplies. Bandaid or don't fix stuff at all if theres anyway possible to operate without it. Constantly trying to fix stuff while always being told the rig isn't clean enough. What they don't realize is if they'd fix stuff right everyone would have more time to clean. Incredibly negative environment, no one I worked with wanted to be there, all managment only concentrates on any negative things they find so no one ever here's a good job or anything close. Very strong buddy system as well, so if pusher or superintendent have a friend to bring in they will and if you're not a buddy and get brought in to drill you'll be treated bad, felt bad for some of my drillers. Also you never really come back with the same crew bc someone quits every hitch sometimes 2 people. Pay is good here but not worth putting up with the bs.

It all depends on where we were at in the well, whether we were drilling, tripping pipe, or running casing.  If we were drilling we were able to get more stuff done, tripping pipe was fun but dangerous you don't have too much time to eat or really even drink water depending on the driller, same with running casing.  The management depended on the manager, some are real strict or not strict at all, which can cause confusion at times.  The co-workers were nice for the most part.   The hardest part of the job was being away from home for 2 weeks out of the month, and having to live with 4 other men from different parts of the country, not only on the clock but off the clock as well.  That can get pretty stressful at times.  The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to learn and experience how different people can work together as one.

Even as a driller I’m getting treated and paid from the neck down. Everyone above you rig manager and up are micro managing incompetent idiots. They rush you on every aspect of your job wether it be from a normal day of drilling to walking the rig to a cement job you have no control of. Write ups are common unless you kiss butt and you feel your job is always on the line, which isn’t a good feeling when your trying your best and there to provide for your family. I’ve worked here for over 10 years and have moved up the ladder slow due to the fact that I don’t and will never kiss butt. The last 5 years there have been no pay raises except for rig managers and up.
