Proliance Surgeons

Working at Pugetsound ENT has been nothing short of an emotional, mental and physical rollercoaster. I was an MA there for approx.. 8 mo’s and in that short amount of time I was put in charge of training the ever-revolving door of MA’s coming in and out of the clinic,  during which time I trained 4 new employees. There is your first red flag. It’s so unfortunate and with a deeply sad heart I feel I have to warn people to coming and working in this clinic until big changes have been made. If you actually want to love what you do, laughing and joking around with your fellow employee’s and even the doctor’s is HIGHLY frowned upon by the administrator there- there’s your second red flag. The doctors are amazing people, intelligent and friendly, always willing to lend a helping hand or to explain/teach you new things, and practice great patient care strategies daily. The nurse in charge is friendly and dependable, easy going and very easy to talk to. The front desk staff I actually don’t know too much about- as the back office is highly discouraged from talking or fraternizing with them at all. The head administrator rules the office with intimidation tactics as well as highly rude and unprofessional comments to everyone working near her that day. Third red flag- I as well as many other employee’s know firsthand she talk’s badly about all of her employee’s to anyone who will listen and feels the need daily to come over and nit-pick something about one of her employee’s daily. She rules by completely humiliating front desk members by coming up and raising her voice while patients are in the waiting room wanting to know why certain mistakes were made and how could that have happened. I have personally heard her say after a long day and the receptionists passing along false information that we were” lucky it’s Friday, because I (sic. She) was ready to rip some heads off” There’s a big fat fourth flag for ya. She frowns upon the back office talking too much or laughing hardly at all because one cannot possibly be having fun/enjoying their day and be productive at the same time. Many people have come and gone in my short time there and I don’t think that will change one bit unless the administration does, until then- pay attention to the red flags.

This was the worst experience of my entire working career on every front with regard to management and ownership.  A close second poorest aspect would be salaried "overtime" policy enforcement. 
 It was *stunning*.  *Averaging* >80 hrs/wk on an overtime-exempt salary ought get one...something.  Without exaggeration, work was 7 day/wk, regularly in excess of 12 hrs/day.  No "vacation" was ever anything less than 24 hr/day remote support on-call...with regular complex calls.  Why?  Complete budget resistance for staffing and appropriate wage worker pay rates.  Personally, some weeks involved 120 *crushingly active* hrs.  ....week after month after year after year.  It was stunning to be told to "flex your hours within the confines of 2 week periods or lose any potential benefit to flexing" when *every* week is *at least* double-time.   ...by management who worked maybe 30 hrs/wk themselves.  ...and then charged vacation time when needing a personal day following weeks on end of 80 to 120 hrs per *week*.  Working *every* New Year's Eve for nothing.  Any specific or technical details regarding 10 years put in at this company would really be moot.  Management was severe, careless, and truly self-serving and owner-fearing goo that loomed over ineffective Human Resources and other support departments (mostly of single position figureheads).  

This is a company that did worse than squander its core of tenured, apt, and dedicated IT personnel.  It actually drove them off through forced resignation, handcuffing, and even false accusation - which works with little chance to effectively counter in a at-will State.     

What kept me there so long?  It's bland on the surface but true in spirit in my case:  many hard-working and personally great co-workers.   They're mostly long-gone now, though.  

We all know that there is no perfect company to work for, so that “perfection” or at least the strive for that “perfection” needs to be made by you.. and the company needs to allow that.  To me, Proliance Surgeons is not a perfect company, but company that will treat you like a human being, allows you to succeed as much as you want to succeed and has some of the most humble and grounded people you’ll ever meet.  There are no pretenses and no ulterior motives.  People are here to work, get the job done and really feel the rewards of the work that they put in.  It’s not like some other companies where you can hide behind the façade of people or layers of processes…. It’s you doing the work, you getting acknowledged for your work and you being held accountable if you don’t do as well.  I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

It’s a great company to learn something new everyday and truly, elevate your skillset and in return, contribute (in a very productive way) to the overall success of Proliance.  

This place has warts and challenges like every company out there.. but not many has a “SOUL” like Proliance Surgeons has.  You won’t know this until you actually work here.


Depending on the question format you will either be told something cannot be done because of corporate, or because we are private practice but it changes depending on the manager's mood.

Management also has a fun tendency to tell you and other employees how they feel and what you mean when you say something. Management will also tell you something is not the correct forum for discussion but will simultaneously chew out publicly in teams a team member over a small miscommunication that could have been easily resolved.

Management also has a reputation for favoritism and double standards. The most prominent being if she is in a bad mood it is the entire clinics problem and a clinic wide advisory gets sent out that she is in a bad mood. Yet if you appear less than thrilled you will get talked to about appearing unprofessional and rude.

People will already know who is getting promoted or chosen for a job before it is even available because of the not so subtle favoritism within the clinic.

So if you like being micromanaged, told not to discuss pay with anyone, and walking on egg shells in hopes they are having a good day. Feel free to work here.

With the latest managerial change at this surgery center it has gone from good to bad. There is zero support from the latest clinical director and in many cases seems to bend to the will of the surgeons to please them. This is unsurprising considering the person was nepotistically hired for the position. Understaffing has always been a problem at this facility but has reached a critical point within the last year. This is causing facility wide stress and frustration with many employees threating to leave. Despite these negatives, the majority of the staff are pleasant, work hard, and love what they do. Likewise, the surgeons and other physicians are wonderful and really make me and other staff members feel appreciated. Overall, I'd say this surgery center has locked away potential but needs the right leader to capitalize on it. 

COVID19: This facility is trying and is doing a fair job at dealing with the pandemic. There is a lax attitude from some of the physicians and staff but, overall, there is a collective understanding of the risks. This being said, there is a surprising amount of pushback to PPE regulations and standards. 

I worked for Proliance for several years. I excelled in everything that I was tasked to do and was constantly given above and beyond tasks to handle a side from my day to day work (given by management of course). Trained, taught, oversaw several new/old employees. Basically, overworked with very slight increase in pay and no advancement. Although this was a discussion many times with new management.

Once management had changed it was poor and management would rather be everyone's friend instead of handling crucial situations appropriately that had been brought to their attention many times. There was constant high school behavior by employees, which was overlooked by management. I stayed for a little over a year after management changed. After that I could not take it anymore.

I was also never able to advance do to again, poor management. The leadership was there from the willing employees, but the advancement/pay and appreciation from management was not. I would suggest if you are a highly-motivated person, want to succeed/advance, and want an active manager, then you should stay clear of Proliance.

Daily I would open the office and start the MRI machine.  I would greet the first patient and get them ready for the MRI.  For every patient I did a safety pre-screening to make sure they were safe to go into the machine.   Whenever a doctor referred a patient for an MRI I would obtain the prior authorization then schedule the appointment.    When results were completed I would send them electronically to the physicians desk top for their review.   If needed I would schedule the patient back to see the doctor for review and potential surgery.  If a physician requested multiple procedures I would get insurance approval them all,  coordinate the appointments for all the testing,  when completed make a follow up appointment back with the doctor to get the results.

I worked with a great group of ladies who would back each other up when the office was busy.   The most difficult part was getting previous patient records from facilities in other parts of the country.  Sometimes the patient didn't remember the name of the facility where they had treatment so I would call every hospital in that area.  I always found them but sometimes it took a lot of phone calling.

Sounded like a great idea to work for a great group of orthopedic surgeons in the Eastside, but due to management not knowing how  lead people (they know how to manage a company though) and communicate with them makes for a difficult working environment. Too much of a high school feel most of the time. This is a very very busy sports medicine practice and we see everyone from "cradle to grave", your next door neighbor to someone from the Seattle Seahawks. The work itself is very busy, which is great. Lots of sponsor events to attend, ads to create, primary care physicians to make contact with, and events to plan. You have to at least like going to work everyday to make it worth it.

Working out of two different clinics, you had to schlepp everything from one clinic to another. The providers were all very nice. The provider I worked with spoke 10x more with the scribe than me as the MA. I know that most scribes are usually pre-med students and they have a lot of questions, but the MA is doing two jobs and the provider is not really helping out with that. I needed questions answered to the over 40 phone calls per day and it was tough just to get time to communicate. At times it was very high school-ish with all the MA drama, but that seemed to get better after they let one of them go. Management was just barely okay. So many staff meetings! Most of the providers were really, really nice but two of them could just be awful. One of them has retired recently, which is a good thing. The other one was known as the "Dragon lady." Yikes.

A typical day at Proliance involved gathering work that was expected to be completed that day and prioritizing it with the EMR Team and manager.  I learned that if I set priorities ahead of time, it was much less intrusive when tasks requiring immediate attention came in later in the day.  It could be a challenge to coordinate work with team members, but learning their personalities and work styles enabled us to work successfully together.  I enjoyed my interaction with the entire staff of Proliance Surgeons.  Working with a team to accomplish goals was satisfying, but being able to meet the needs of the entire staff was the most enjoyable part of my time there.  I left Proliance because of a medical issue that took a few months to resolve, but it has since been resolved completely.
