I worked in the kitchen at Recovery Unplugged detox for over a year. It's a small environment so whoever is the current acting kitchen manager could kind of make the kitchen whatever they wanted it to be. Everyone was kind of figuring it out as they went along, and there was a lot of turnover. The upper management didn't really know how to clarify or communicate expectations up front with the kitchen manager(s). The housing staff was very codependent with the clients and would try to get the clients whatever they wanted on a moments notice. Day-to-day it wasn't clear if the job was to set boundaries with the clients, or meet each and every one of their desires for instant food gratification. Generally speaking, the staff environment was very codependent. Staff members hugging each other and talking about their feelings a lot, then getting into intense personal drama because they're taking everything that happens at work personally. This could be a great place to work for the right kitchen manager who can really lead and enforce clear boundaries with clients and staff and proactively nail down fuzzy expectations with upper management. It's a herding cats kind of gig. Lower level kitchen staff are at the mercy of whoever the kitchen manager happens to be at the time - which traditionally changes constantly.

Poor salary with no hope for a raise. Company scheduled me to work just below their cut-off for the really crummy health care package. A toxic environment of gossip and favoritism. It was a demeaning environment for a nurse while attempting to provide the highest quality of care one could under the conditions. The management promoted a stressful, hostile environment by manipulating a system of hearsay over a measurement of clinical skills and constructive criticism. Just as an aside, after my short, vexing stay at Recovery Unplugged, I worked for the county assisting people who were long term guests of the court. It is not possible to count the number of Recovery Unplugged graduates who giggled or, were totally smacked out upon my discovery of their status as guests of the county. Hopefully, instead of their family and loved ones being sold on out of tune, cheap instruments and chain smoking, along with the stated toxic environment for the nursing staff, these people will find help at another program to overcome their addiction(s). I sincerely hope the clients or, patients, find a way to overcome addiction.

There are 0 holidays recognized by RU. There is also no "set" schedule for full time employees, which they use to their advantage. They remain open during hurricanes and all other significant weather events. Putting staff & clients in danger without any concern. $$$ is what their about.  It's supposed to be 40hrs/ week, though you can work 60 without anyone blinking an eye. 

They work people until they can't anymore and there's minimal if any burnout prevention going on. They promote a client first community though do not prioritize the mental health and wellbeing of staff whatsoever.  

Additionally, RU falsely advertises their program as a "chill, music-oriented" type facility when they are actually following  strict, no nonsense abstinent based guidelines . 

Poor chances of advancing into management or leadership type roles unless you're a kiss up. If you're a favorite, it's probably because you don't mind or question being burnout. They also like to hire green candidates vs experienced to fit to their ideologies. 

Upper Management has created an environment where unless you are willing to make the job your entire life and are willing to work at the drop of a hat, there’s no chance of promotion. Management has also been known to lie  and say that you’ll get paid more than you actually will.

The other major issue is that there is a consistent lack of communication. There are multiple times where management either doesn’t tell you important information or will wait until the last minute to let you know about something important. This doesn’t just apply to staff information, it also applies to client information. For instance, I can’t tell you how many times I was told at the last minute to that a client need to be at an important appointment, that was across town, in 10-15 minutes.

I’ve never worked somewhere that made their staff feel so inadequate, even when the staff were doing everything they were asked of plus more.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The music aspect is cool. The live band every week is a treat.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The work that is expected of the employees here is quite abut and does not involve support of management. It’s like walking in the dark with a million obstacles. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The people may seem cool at first, but don’t get used to that as the turn over rate is higher than a kite and most of the long term employees are fake.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Awful. Being thrown from one task to another with an expectation to finish a task that cannot be completed in the timeframe expected. If you don’t finish it, don’t worry, it will never get done and no one cares!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The counselors are awesome and truly care for the clients.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The Jewish owners like to micromanage. They are so money hungry. You can’t get ahead unless your Jewish and part of their click. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone is great and laid back for the most part.  It’s just the owners that really make life difficult for all the staff. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It’s rewarding knowing the work I do is helping to save lives.  Even if just so they can be around a day/week/year later. Many have left treatment and end up relapsing then overdoing it and dying.  It’s really sad.

This company doesn’t provide basic benefits to F/T employees. No bereavement leave, even for parents. No shift differential for nurses or other direct care staff. They promise one thing but don’t follow through. Absolutely do not value nursing staff. Sneak in open enrollment for just a few days, w/no info, then the sign-up site doesn’t work, but they say “oh so sorry, open enrollment is over now, have to wait till next year!!” AGAIN! I went without insurance last year for the same reason!! It’s all about the $$ for this company. They feed patients frozen pizza all while promising “chef prepared meals”. Oh, okay🤣 I work with great people, it’s the only redeeming factor, sad because no one likes working for this “healthcare” organization. 

This company is horrible It's supposed to be about helping those who are addicted with mental illness And all it is is a revolving door especially for those who have really good insurance or really wealthy You can pretty much get away with anything at this rehab, they do not back there employees, they do not pay their employees what they deserve and it's sickening to watch and it was sickening to be a part of. There Not about helping those in need they're about helping their own pockets. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Everything has been amazing ! Staff is outstanding, understanding and compassionate. No better way to help someone than having gone through it myself ❤️ I am blessed to be apart of the team. I highly recommend them . 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Fear of the unknown doing something new. I got through it though. At first I was scared to dispense medication! Now it’s no big deal. Walking through fears 😊

Saying hello making sure everyone is ok and staying on task !

As a treatment facility, the clients receive decent care, but this company does not care about it's employees. It's a truly toxic relationship where they make the employees believe they are so important and needed, while paying employees the bare minimum and making them feel like they'll never find a better job. They keep a bare bones staff that is all under paid and over worked and the management definitely has favorite employees that are treated better than others. Since nobody wants to work there due to terrible wages and lack of staffing, they now just hire their alumni clients for everything which seems predatory.
