The mission is great and the overall goal of the company is good. However, the company is so poorly ran. It feels like the company started 40 years ago but when COVID hit, it changed the game and the company can't keep up. The management has no idea what is going on the majority of the time and will not communicate any type of plan to achieve their desired goals. 
During my time of employment, plans, policies, and protocols changed so many times without warning that many of the departments failed to be on the same page. This made the already nonexistent communication impossible.
Also, during my time of employment, I worked between 80-120 hours per week. Some weeks would involve morning, night, morning, night, etc. This equated to several periods worked where I went 48+ hours without sleep or even a break. This also equates to wages being less than minimum wage due to hours vs salary. 
Overall, I was grateful for the opportunity to meet amazing volunteers and help various communities receive healthcare but felt nearly abused by my manager nearly every time I clocked in (which is 24/7).  

Working at Remote Area Medical (RAM) has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The atmosphere here is laid back and supportive—there’s no sense of micromanagement, which allows you to really take ownership of your work and grow in your role. Leadership is transparent, with the CEO keeping staff updated and engaged in strategic planning efforts, so you always feel included in the bigger picture.

The benefits are excellent, especially the health coverage, and the team culture makes you feel valued both personally and professionally. Most importantly, RAM’s mission to provide free medical, dental, and vision care to people in need is at the heart of everything we do. It’s inspiring to know that your work is directly helping improve lives across the country.

If you’re looking for a workplace that combines professional growth, supportive leadership, and a mission that truly matters, RAM is an amazing place to be.

The overall mission of bringing healthcare to those in need is a fantastic mission and the company does in fact strive to achieve that goal.
However the corporate environment leaves a lot to be desired:
-The higher-ups make giant changes to the company structure on a whim, even after being told about the negative outcomes of the idea.
-Nepotism/Favoritism runs rampant throughout the company to the point that if a Chief level person doesn't like you, you will not last long
-The basic understanding of how a company, non-profit or other-wise, should be run is missing. incompetency is rewarded and hard, morale-breaking work is expected, or even demanded.

This company needs a restructure, starting at the very top and proceed downward.

Working for RAM and continuing founder Stan Brock's vision is not just a job; we get to do this.  Work weeks can be long but are offset by getting to travel and help people.  Pay and benefits are very competitive at the non-profit level.  Senior management gives latitude and support for individuals to succeed or fail based on their own efforts.  Welcoming office culture; dog friendly; open door policy across the board.  To succeed, you will work hard, you will put in a lot of time, you may travel a lot, your work-life balance will not be perfect.  The mission is very rewarding well beyond financial compensation.  Most of the people we help are truly in need.  You will meet great people at HQ, great volunteers on the road and patients who will change your life.

I worked for about a year at RAM, I would say that I very much enjoyed working there and my direct manager was by far the best manager I have ever had. However due to budget cuts at the turn of the year a number of positions, including mine were cut. We were given absolutely no warning ahead of time that our jobs were in jeopardy and thus had no way to plan for it. What's worse is that my direct manager also had no idea this was happening and was just as shocked as I was that he was losing a team member. This coming from a company that demands a 2 week notice per the handbook should we leave but is unwilling to give their workers the same courtesy. Honestly this is shameful and a horrible and disrespectful way to treat workers who give so much of themselves for the mission of RAM.

I made memories that I will never forget.  So many people get helped.  I personally just was unwilling to work the hours for the pay, for the upcoming annual schedule.
It was a very laid-back atmosphere and management doesn't baby sit the staff, for the most part.

RAM is a great place to volunteer and wonderful to its employees. Leadership does its best with the resources available to expand care to people in need. I'd say if you want a job for life, RAM is a place be. They are continuing to grow with the times providing more digital and telehealth services to rural communities. There will always be work here to help people receive the healthcare they need.

You feel like family and you get the good feeling from knowing the company is getting to help people because of what you do 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Everyday is a busy day working for RAM

This required me to work for months contacting professionals and other volunteers to organize the three day event. I made several calls and had to learn to deal with differences in my supervisors. The hardest part was handling differences with my supervisors and getting people not to back down. The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing in-need people get the care they so desparately needed.

Remote Area Medical clinic is a organization which travels and hosts pop up clinic to people in need throughout the country. It is a wonderful organization where I was able to work patient flow and dental sterilization. 

Each clinic is designed for a weekend, I was able to work two twelve hour shifts during one of my weekends in college.
