A typical workday consists of numerous scenarios requiring conflict resolution and issues with staffing and issues amongst staff. Unfortunately RNs are expected to complete all patient care tasks while also managing the schedule and employee call outs, amongst numerous other tasks. Little time to focus on good and SAFE patient care. Workplace culture is one of toxic bullying, gossip and general lack of support. Inconsistent rules and favoritism is apparent. The patients are absolute angels and a joy to work with, they are what keeps staff present. 

Richmond’s mission is great, they strive to serve individuals with developmental disabilities. However, there is just too much disorganization within the administration. There is not enough support from managers to employees. There was an expectation from hiring managers to fill positions with a department of TWO people. There is also the unrealistic expectations of filling roles that the organization pays very little for. There are some old practices such as no hybrid capabilities that makes this organization hard to be attractive to work for. The 7 hour work days do not work and can cause you to lag behind in your work and also leads to lower salary amounts. There is a general insecurity with your position if you’re not able to do everything and more than what you’re expected to do. 

Richmond is a place of caring and patient workers. They help you understand how people with Developmental  Disabilities live and how to help care for them. You have a great team of management to guide you through all work and learning. i enjoyed working with my co workers who kept the residents feel like their own children. the hardest part of my job is when a resident passes away, it hurts as if they are your own family member. you care for them and get to know them and love them so it hurts when they go. the most enjoyable part of my job is walking into work and the residents smile makes you ready to work.

My time at Richmond Community Services was pretty rough. The work-life balance was terrible, and I often felt burned out because the workload was never-ending. There weren’t really any chances to move up, so it felt like I was stuck in one spot.

Management was a big problem too... Communication was poor, and there wasn’t much support. On top of that, the company culture felt non-existent; there was little connection with coworkers outside of your own department.

Overall, I’d suggest thinking twice before taking a job here.

A typical day at work consistent of greeting co-workers and residents upon my arrival.  Followed by reading duties for the day, which usually consist of me administering medications followed by documentation, or assist on medical appointments.  Assist with hygienic needs, followed by safe transportation to daily destinations.  Their is no hard part of my job, I'm very passionate about my job and I truly enjoy helping others and currently, just looking to excel based on educational background along with past and current experiences.

Agency has High Standards. They expect a lot from their employees. They provide the necessary tools for the job. I enjoy working because the Agency promotes Team Work. They are also Unionized. 
The hardest part of my job is trying to cope with all the responsibilities that are thrown out on a daily basis with immediate deadline that gives no time to complete the everyday responsibilities.
The enjoyable part of my job is to see that all the individuals under my care are well provided for and that they are happy.

Recently was hired as part of the clinical team and was totally interested in having a position within the organization. It was quite an experience working with such positive, friendly, professional and warm management and staff. I wish I could say names but I don't think that's necessary. I just know that Richmond Community certainly top my list of best places that I've worked at with culture and diversity, excellent communication among management and staff, great benefits. Its so rewarding to have met individuals and staff. 

Richmond offers a caring environment where recreation staff are able to provide individual specific therapeutic programs that promote sensory enhancement at that individual's level of cognition, while proving motivational support to impact lives through music,art, community inclusion, and social activities

no one at richmond cares about the staff. always being mandated to work. 24 hour shifts sometimes. the only one who cares about us is our union. all of us file grievance and the hr fights back like we are villians. brings staff to the us to work and they are the favorites and get more money and new positions. 

never go to hr - they dont listen or care they are always to busy to talk but they fire you and the people in hr leave so we get less anyway. 

you never do too much, they complain you dont do enough.

My day at work begins at 2pm and end most of the time at 10pm. I usually  l get a bus to go and pick up residents from their day program. I have learned a lot about how non verbal people communicate. Some of the management leaves something to be desired but are not bad people. My co -workers are a diverse group and are very helpful. the hardest part of the job is watching a resident suffer in pain because they are unable to tell you what is wrong. the most enjoyable part of this job is seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter.
