What we do is very hard - helping patients who are not well. This creates the need for everyone to focus on patient healthcare outcomes as well as on the needs of the staff. 

Rio Vista is keen at doing both, employees and the required resources are not sacrificed in the name of profits. Management is constantly working to create and maintain the right culture and understands firsthand it requires financial resources to do so. 

For the most part, everyone works very hard to take care of our patients and consequently the hospital does well. Which in turn the hospital has the wherewithal to make activities for staff both fun and enjoyable which take place several times a year. Even the vendors who provide these event services are able to tell Rio Vista truly cares about their staff!

Clearly, there will be those who did not meet the expected threshold of performance and consequently are no longer here. If you know anything about surveys, you'll know that very few who do have a positive experience will take the time to post a review.  Moreover, those who are disgruntled/unhappy will most certainly make the time to post their biased opinions. This is to be expected!

As a newly hired Admissions Counselor and a keen, experienced observer of organizational dynamics, I’ve witnessed firsthand the sincere efforts being made by leadership. Karla, our newly appointed CEO, is actively working to implement meaningful changes though naturally, transformation takes time. Crystal, the new Director of Admissions, brings a wealth of experience and has already begun laying the groundwork for a more efficient and responsive department. My interactions with her have been marked by mutual respect and openness; she has welcomed my input and demonstrated a genuine commitment to collaborative improvement. While no system is without its imperfections, I believe the current leadership is moving in the right direction. Constructive feedback is valuable, but persistent negativity, especially from those resistant to change, can hinder progress. This is a transitional period, and with continued effort and support, I’m confident positive outcomes will follow.

What is the best part of working at the company?
None, you're force to stay when staff is late, you don't take your lunch break on time. Nurse will not help you out on the floor! Hand held Q15's gets behind due to doing other patients care, and you will be held accountable when the nurse don't help out! 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No professionalism from upper staff to lower staff, no consistency with patient care or management structure to provide help when staff ask. Some RN's and supervisor act as though BHA jobs is above them and look the other direction. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Drug, alcohol, homeless and different mental psychosis patients. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You come in early to receive report, scan areas that have barcodes, head count with patients and prepare for vitals and head counts of patients. Meet patient needs, prepare them for meals, group and constantly calling patients for meds for the RN's. Hold group therapy, smoke break and deal with problems that might rise on the unit between patients and treatment team.

Working at Rio Vista is one of the most toxic experiences I have had. The problem is not just one department it’s the entire hospital. The dysfunction starts at the top and trickles down through every level. Leadership is disconnected, inexperienced, and focuses more on appearance than the safety and wellbeing of staff and patients. There is no real teamwork, no accountability, and no genuine care from management. The place runs on favoritism,  promotions go to friends rather than those who earn them, and toxic behavior is ignored or even rewarded. Staff are overworked, understaffed, and just trying to survive each shift. The patients notice it too they can see the chaos, the tension, and the lack of unity. It creates an environment that feels heavy, hopeless, and unsafe. Rio Vista does not need new staff it needs a complete change in leadership and culture before it completely breaks the people still trying to hold it together. It’s getting worse as the months go on. 

I have never been treated so well by a company. I am genuinely heard in my concerns, and my assigned administrator is always in my corner to help me tackle any issues that arise. The opportunities for professional growth and advancement are available to anyone qualified that takes the time to seek them out, and they are often present without having to seek for long. They offer understanding and compassion to their employees, and I am happy to say I feel valued by a workplace for the first time in my career. They do continuous training for their employees in the form of monthly healthstreams to make sure all staff is up to date on their knowledge, and they offer annual merit increases as well. Overall, I have never been happier in my career, and I know RVBH will continue to support me in not just my professional growth but in my personal growth as well.

They string you around the whole facility being a therapist for whatever unit they need you on that month/day. No consistency with the your hired job position or even with what admin tell you, as it changes with the person you are getting information from. Workplace culture is toxic as there is a lot of favoritism and drama. They did not do a good job while I was there of keeping workers safe with PPE, not following social distancing. No consistency for clients either as they would switch therapists around the facility often, without a heads up to the therapist sometimes until day of. Training was extremely minimal, if you can even call it that, more of baptism by fire; they throw you in from day 1 because they are often short staffed. Only enjoyable part of the job was the coworkers. 


Working here has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The environment is genuinely positive, and leadership goes above and beyond to create a culture of support and respect. Team members uplift one another, and there’s a true sense of collaboration rather than competition.

Communication is open and encouraged, and management takes the time to listen to feedback and act on it. Professional growth is valued, with opportunities to learn, develop, and take on new challenges.

What stands out most is the emphasis on employee well-being both personally and professionally. Whether it’s through recognition, team-building activities, or simply checking in, it’s clear that everyone’s contributions and mental health matter.

It’s refreshing to be part of a workplace that celebrates success, promotes teamwork, and treats people with kindness.

Unless you’re already trained in HMS, I would not recommend this workplace. There is little to no structured training despite hiring employees into salaried positions that require specialized knowledge. When concerns are raised about inadequate training or lack of side-by-side support from trainers, management appears unresponsive.

Employees are often left feeling like they are walking on eggshells, with disciplinary action taking precedence over development and coaching. There seems to be very limited oversight, mentorship, or investment in helping staff succeed.

Unfortunately, my experience was that this was a frustrating environment and ultimately a waste of time for anyone expecting proper training and support.

Working with the patients was mostly a pleasure,  even when they were difficult. Direct management left much to be desired. No support offered. Others were able to take days off with no notice,  but I was not, even when I found my own coverage. Bosses did not offer support, nor did they side with employees when problems were brought to their attention. This, to the extent of avoiding me when I tried to contact them about an issue for several days. HR director is rude and generally talks over people. 

Beautiful new facility. Money is spent in growth and employee engagement. Management supports staff and growth is in the future. Different therapeutic treatment modality from the local competitors the patients here are valued and respected.  Staffing is achieved and efforts are made to accommodate high call in days in order to provide a safe work environment.  Management is happy to be part of change and that transfer to all employees. Nurses and techs are part of patient care and do make a difference
