I worked at Federation first as an intern and per diem at one of the PROS clinics, and then was hired on full-time at another clinic. In my almost 3 years with Federation, I had 3 managers and all were great, easy to talk to and work with. I always loved my coworkers and felt the environment was one of the best things about the organization. I saw many of my supervisors and coworkers move up in the ranks and become supervisors themselves, which seems to mean that there's lots of room for growth in this organization; however, I did see a lot of staff turnover as well. When working with clients, I felt very supported from my supervisors and felt the working conditions were good for the work we did. At times, especially when understaffed, it could be overwhelming, however the client population was great to work with overall, and I think it's a well-run organization. Especially since leaving Federation, it makes me appreciate how well run it is, and what a great job I had. Compensation for mental health is never wonderful, but I was making a good amount compared to my peers at other comparable agencies.

The atmosphere at Federation was relaxed very friendly. Most employees were very friendly. The work was fast paced , constant and consistent. The management team was very supportive with back up and listening to new ideas.

With working for the first time at a Non- Profit Organization I learned how the inner organization works and how they rely on government grants and donations to keep their programs running. 

My job was dealing with Re-pay clients. Which was also dealing with Social Security Administration, clients that received disability or retirement benefits. 

These two components were very interesting to learn about during my years working there.

The hardest part of the job was the quantity of work involved but I was able to ask for help when I needed it. I processed over 4000 checks a month but the beginning of the month I processed over 1000 within the first 4 days. Then checks were cut on a weekly basis after that unless otherwise needed.

I was able to set up my own day for the most part based on my caseload. It is extremely rewarding to be able to work one-on-one with clients and personally help them reach their goals.

I also enjoyed my coworkers. Many sweet people I met here. There were times where I made an appointment or commitment to a client and had to cancel due to my manager wanting to meet with me (for unimportant reasons). This would bother me because something small like canceling an apt with a client on short notice could cause them to lose trust in you! Meeting with managers or team should be scheduled in advance! 
ALSO, all managers should have background/ experience in mental health as this is a mental health agency. 

I've been working at the organization for a few months and I don't have too much to complain about. The work is relatively easy. You speak to clients throughout the week, either in person or on the phone, and you provide them with resources or simply a person to rant to. One of the few things I'd complain about is the lack of money given for the position compare to the wear and tear on your vehicle and the odd hours you'd work. Really should be a 9-5pm or 10-6pm job as you you wouldn't really be calling clients at 7 or 8pm. Also they don't really provide any information on how to advance in the company. Job postings provided only say you need a masters degree in social work for management positions, so you'd need to have that going in to advance or go back to school. Everyone is really nice to work with so far. 

Hard working, learned to navigate the system to help my clients, learned to better listen and understand diferent cultures and approaches to living. A typical day at work is being prepared to provide the services I need to in meeting the particular clients I am meeting with that day and expect the unexpected, because every day, facing human beings that are fallible, something or 3 changes in my schedule radically, an emergency, someone I can't meet because they were hospitalized or arrested, someone is facing almost immediate eviction, knwledge they've been sitting on for a month or more and only telling me now. Management is spectacular in listening to my clientele's situation and always offers calm and thoughtful insight to problem solve/troubleshoot.  Co-workers sometimes offer relief in dealing with similiar problems I'm facing and can offer additional help in how they dealyt with similiar situations.

I worked in a variety of different settings within the agency.  I worked in a residential setting which i really enjoyed.  I was able to help the clients a lot due to the amount of time i spent with them.  I also worked on a mobile team where I drove to the apartments.  It was a very satisfying experience.  I learned a lot at this job.  The most important thing I learned is not to give up on people despite their limitations. All people have the chance to succeed in obtaining their goals.  I also learned things such as how to write treatment plans and provide services to clients.   The management was great and very supportive of the employees.  They motivated us to do are best.  The coworkers were amazing.  Everyone worked as a team to accomplish our goals.  The hardest part of the job was to terminate services with a client.  It was also the most enjoyable because they moved on to more independent housing which was also their main goal.

The overall management at Federation is very negative and hostile. They are always stressed and under pressure and then create a threatening and hostile environment to get their employees to do work. They "try" to motivate their staff to do better by threatening to write them up or threatening them by telling them their job is in jeopardy. Kindness starts from the top and if management is feeling pressured and threatened from the top then it will only be a trickle effect and the rest of the staff members is the ones who get the rough end of the stick unfortunately. It's a very stressful and negative environment to be in not because of the clients really, but because of the stress and negativity from higher ups as well as unexpected workload without any "proper" training or direction from management.

This organization does wonderful things for the community but the management in place throughout the organization is a mess. Bad management is an epidemic here. They consistently put unqualified people in charge and do not appreciate the work they get from staff. Every department is overworked and there are too many employees who aren't properly trained which is a direct result of the bad management. There is no chance of any of these things being rectified anytime in the near future as upper management doesn't see that there is an issue because they are completely out of touch with what happens as far as the day to day functions of the organization. There are maybe one or two good managers in the entire place but their is little they can do to change the culture.

I’ve had one of my best working experiences here. Starting this job in the middle of a pandemic was scary but I like to bet on myself and I couldn’t be more satisfied with my decision. For starters I had a great vibe for everybody there, they really made feel like part of the family. The supervisor and managers I have are GREAT, I can’t remember a job where all of them have been on the same page and really working towards the same goal. My direct manager communicates GREAT and truly understands the work/ life balance having both are hard to come by. From day one my managers and director have always checked to make sure I had everything I needed to do my job to the fullest, I couldn’t be more appreciative of the entire department and the confidence they hold for me. I’m happy to say I work for this company.

I started out as a Peer Specialist and within a year I was promoted to Housing Case Manager. Without true care, compassion and respect for our clients you will definitely struggle. My caseload is heavy! And we are not at capacity so I know it will be growing soon. Coworkers are supportive and understanding, thank God. Management does not listen or try to hear you out. Pay is fair I guess. I often work long after my actual work day ends just to make sure I'm not making up for any incomplete tasks the following day. Scattered site supportive housing is a mess. All day you're driving from Queens to the Bronx to Brooklny to Far Rockaway. Yet, you still have to contact your residents at least 2x a week and document everything.
