Rogue Valley Manor

I loved going in to see the residents, I very much enjoyed hearing about their day and their stories.  Management was good and bad, completely depending on who was in charge of you at the moment and under which department you fell.  My annual review was "forgotten" for about 6 months, only under light duty in another department was my review pushed onto the new manager of my regular department.  I was given a glowing review and only given a few  cents raise, even though 6 months or more had passed since i was due this review and raise it was never retroactive.  

It was very difficult for me to become very close with residents and then loose them, it was heartbreaking to find them or even hear about it later.  A few I became close with and we have stayed friends even after i moved out of state.  The residents are the most enjoyable part of this job, hands down.  the good feeling at the end of the day knowing you helped someone put on a comfy outfit, administer medication that helped them feel better, got them out for a walk they wouldn't have been able to do without help.  

Management needs classes in personal skills, management skills and organizational skills, empathy, logic and patience.

Let’s begin with the positive: the majority of the residence are very kind and appreciative of the work that is done by the servers in general. If you enjoy, knowing who’s coming through the door, in other words, knowing who your regulars are, then it can be a very rewarding place. The residents do become like extended family, and they are fun to interact with for the most part. 


The experience that I had working there that was not so positive was that I did not feel supported by management, nor appreciated or valued for the skills and service that I brought to work every day. 

When I first started, there were many opportunities for shifts and to pick them up if you had the availability. As time progressed the shifts became shorter and less available, to the point where you would have to work split shifts because they were looking to cut hours as much as possible.

I also did not feel that giving feedback and suggestions on how things could work smoother were appreciated or received well.

I greet most everyone especially residents. Get my work cart prepared. Enter each room to get residents water,make beds, do side duties, laundry runs, and clean rooms. Along the way answering question when asked, when a resident needs assistants I either help or page an aid for them. there is alot of interaction with the residents.
I gained alot of experience in being customer orientated, how to work with a variety of individuals, I grew in communication skills with co-workers and residents. Value the importance of being willing to help your team out to succeed more efficiently. 
The most difficult part is time managment when having a particularly busy day, while keeping in mind that your surrounded by residents in recovery, so you have to work around their schedule.By far the most enjoyable part is assisting the residents and getting to know them a little. They are most often a joy to work for.

Working for RVM was a challenging experience daily.
I liked my job very much, dedicated to achieve results with accuracy and precision. Writing menus, checking labels on menus to see if residents are eating whats on their diet plan. Review the admission charts and set-up a nutritional screening record for all new residents.
Visit residents on AM rounds, if awake I would offer them their favorite beverage or some sort of snack until breakfast arrived.
The hardiest part of my job was to work with the supervisor that didn't like me, she wanted my job.
Working with residents, documenting residents at risk for nutritional risks, solving problems and writing weekly menus. i enjoyed helping others meet their goals and setting standards.

It has great Residents and should be a great place to work. It has more resources than any other local retirement community, but it is so poorly administered by Pacific Retirement Services that all that is for naught. Resident care and well-being is a low priority to administration. Promotion and branding of PRS is pushed above all else. A majority of staff in leadership at both RVM and it's parent company started in entry level positions and have zero relevant or outside job experience. There is a paranoia if any new employees suggest a culture change or new approach that quickly turns hostile and ensures that new staff with new ideas don't last. Eventually they get tired of working harder not smarter and leave. The Resident's deserve much better.

As a first job (ever) this a great place to work. The training upon hire was hands-on and very helpful, the customer base was pleasant, the management was good, and the ability to move up was always encouraged.

I learned to be social and how to interact with a wide variety of people on a daily basis, how to work in a restaurant setting be it proper food handling skills, formally setting tables, or obeying Oregon Liquor control Laws. I also learned the effort that is needed to train new hires.

The most enjoyable part of my job was to interact with customers everyday and get that face to face interaction and create relationships with them.

The hardest part of my job was, and can be found anywhere, is department politics-drama between staff and mixed interpretations of policy with a multiple manger staff.

Personally, the Manor has provided experiences and memories that will last a life time. It has helped shaped me not only as a worker, but as a person as well. The only flaw that comes to mind would be the occasional lack of workers which resulted in being called in often, but with my growing work ethic I was prepared to work whenever at any location I was needed at. It provided countless benefits for a young adult such as myself, including usage of on campus accessories such as the gym, pool, and cafe but as well of medical insurance benefits. They were always willing to worth with my schedule, and I never had to worry about getting my days off whether I was out of town or simply needed a mental health day. As long as I was communicative, they flawlessly made sure that my needs will be met on their end as well.

Dining services is absolutely the most miserable place to work on campus. The management uses scare tactics to take advantage of unsuspecting high school employees. Constantly short staffed. Unless you're best friends or related to someone in management you'll never move up no matter how good you are at your job. They will give you all the time off you need but you'll lose your hours in the process. Can't trust anyone. So many cliques and drama you'll feel like you've been spending your days in a high school cafeteria. The most toxic environment I have ever been in. A terrible first experience in the working world. Destroyed my self esteem and mental health.

The residents if they aren’t entitled and rude

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It’s super clicky there. And if they don’t like you or if you speak out too much you have a target on your back. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Seems like fun and then you talk to people who have been there for 25 to 30 years and they say it went down when PRS bought it and it’s just gone down hill. They just care about money.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful. Nurses complain about everything. Management would rather keep people that are horrible at their jobs but they like because they don’t speak up.

The job environment wasn't too bad, though stressful as these jobs are. On the job I was injured and didn't realize it until the day after due to being unable to move from a strain on my neck. I went in that day and informed them, telling them that I couldn't work that day due to the pain. They got me into physical therapy and seeing as I was on call, the manager tried to cut my hours completely. The other managers and employees were very professional and kind however. The only drawback to this job as a whole is most positions begin as on call, though the ability to move up is there.
