Joining SCS Global Services has been an eye-opening experience. The role provides strong technical training and exposure to sustainability auditing on a global scale. The fully remote setup is a plus, and the health benefits are solid. However, there are aspects of the work environment that make it challenging, particularly for those seeking structure, support, and long-term stability.

The workload is intense, with frequent travel that can include weekends and tight audit deadlines. Work-life balance can be difficult to maintain, especially when audits pile up. The emphasis is on getting audits completed quickly, which can sometimes take priority over ensuring sustainable working conditions for employees.

A major challenge is the reimbursement process. Employees are often expected to front large sums for travel and training expenses, and the approval process can be inconsistent. For those outside the U.S., the company contracts employees through Deel, which adds additional complications, such as slower expense processing and variations in contract stability depending on the country. While initially presented as a long-term employment opportunity, contract limitations in certain locations can create uncertainty.

Management varies greatly by team, and there seems to be little structured training for leadership roles. As a result, support and communication can be inconsistent. The fast-paced environment means that issues like workload management, fair expectations, and employee well-being can sometimes be overlooked.

Overall, this role is best suited for early-career professionals looking to gain experience in sustainability auditing and international work. However, those who prioritize stability, clear processes, and a strong support system may find it difficult to thrive here.

The employees drive the mission and are very committed while employed at SCS. However, most who leave don't continue in the industry because they are turned off by the in house fighting between departments and managers.

There is also a high degree of micro managing and total focus on the bottom line in lieu of focus on employee strength and development. There is also a lack of follow through with managers. New and creative ideas are stagnant. HR staff changes constantly and recruitment is a slow and ardeous process.

Salaries are extremely low for the Bay Area and incentives are contingent upon how your manager feels about your value add to the numbers.

The culture is fear driven by top management. As long as you can hang your head in the weeds and not dare to look up, you'll be ok for about six to twelve months. The job market is great for employees right now, so there is certainly more pay, opportunities and development at other companies in the Bay.

My job as a technical associate means I am at my desk conducting audits 8/hrs day. The training to become a certified lead auditor was comprehensive and applicable to my job immediately. I've been with this small but mighty company for 5 months and still have never been introduced to the CEO. My manager works remote full-time, and once I made it through my 90 day period, because my commute is two hours each way, I asked for one remote day a week, which is consistent with other auditors on the team. I was only given one day every other week, without a clear explanation of why, or when I would have the same privileges as my colleagues. The most enjoyable part of the job is the objective nature of the work. The hardest part of the job is learning about complex compound ingredients and how they can be evaluated against the standard being audited to.

The CEO has a mercurial personality and has made life for a good number of people quite frustrating over the years. It filters down and those he favors, at the moment, have much more say and responsibility than they sometimes should. There are very excellent coworkers here as well and a a number of the departments are well run. The company seems to be doing well even in covet times in general, yet it's a bottom line driven business like any.

Good location in the Bay Area and very flexible work hours. 

The general atmosphere is good with nearly a hundred co-workers spread out in many areas of the world. 

Not too much red tape, but managers are ALWAYS concerned about the bottom line. 

HR is a joke and too many workers are mistreated. 

The CEO has no checks and bounds, but is great and stimulation professional.

Overall, I find SCS to be a good place to work. They are a leader in certification services. My teammates are intelligent, passionate, and supportive. My manager is excellent. I find the pay, 401k match, and working remote to be the best benefits. Some downsides are that I don't get any exposure outside of my program, we don't ever get to see each other in person, and PTO is not as much as it should be (15 days). A typical day is communicating with clients by email, reviewing files, and about 4 meetings each week.

the in office jobs are mostly nose to the computer, and meetings... bottom line driven.  the focus for sustainability is great so you have some making a living while making a difference experience.  Younger people have nice social opportunities ... Office manager is great.  Pay is so so for the area, although benefits are good with 50% matching 401k!

SCS is a great opportunity to get your feet wet in the business professional world. The employees are passionate, dedicated, and truly care about improving the planet. Upward mobility is difficult and tops out pretty quickly unless management leaves. I wish they would not match as much in 401k (50% match, vesting 10%/year for 5 years) and just pay more because most employees can't fully capitalize on the match - especially living in the SF Bay Area.

I never worked for a company quite like SCS.  The CEO believed in showing appreciation for his staff.

Work schedule was very flexible and management was extremely understanding.

Enjoyed the PTO and company parties/events.

During onboarding I was very optimistic about growth within the company. After 6 months I quickly realize Management was not only non trust worthy but dishonest and extremely calculating when it came to certain concerns related directly to the job performance.
