Working at Samaritan Medical Center was one of the most exhausting experiences I’ve ever had. CNAs are constantly overworked and underappreciated. We were extremely short-staffed almost every shift, and it was common to be mandated to stay for 16-hour shifts every single shift, not just a few times a week. There were times when only two CNAs were responsible for an entire 40-patient floor, which is completely unsafe and unfair to both staff and patients.
What made things worse was that management often ignored staffing concerns and allowed some CNAs to neglect their patients, leaving the rest of us to pick up the slack. The workplace environment was extremely toxic, with little support or recognition for those who actually worked hard and cared.
The only thing that kept me going for as long as I did was the patients. They deserved the best care possible, and many of us stayed only because we genuinely cared about them. Unfortunately, until major changes are made in staffing, leadership, and workplace culture, I can’t recommend working here to anyone.

Samaritan is a good learning experience for the beginning social workers. The company is not well structured

The most stressful part is not enough help social workers carry heavy Case loads

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?


"The work environment is somewhat disorganized, which affects overall productivity. Teamwork is not happening as much as I would prefer, as it's something I value in a workplace. Unfortunately, the management style here is more hands-off—they believe their role is just to oversee the place rather than actively support or engage with the team. This lack of engagement and structure can make it difficult to foster collaboration, which is essential to me in my role."

What is a typical day like for you at the company?


"My workplace is a fast-paced environment, with a constant stream of clients coming in for assessments. The office space is functional but often feels cramped due to the volume of people and the nature of the work. Desks are arranged in clusters, surrounded by files and papers that need processing. There's a break room, though I rarely have the time to use it for lunch, as I'm typically occupied from the moment I arrive until the end of the day. The atmosphere can feel a bit chaotic, but it’s also energizing because there's always something happening."

I’m a young adult however i am a very hard worker and has worked since i was 15. I say that to say this, Samaritan was a very stressful place , there was always drama. It was very hard trying to befriend people because every little thing you tell they repeat it to someone else. That’s never going to end though it was that way when i first started eveybody talked about everybody and laughed and sat in each other’s faces at lunch.People were extremely lazy and will leave you to do a job whenever they get an opportunity to sneak off and leave you. I’ve never seen anything like it , you would think working with older people it wouldn’t be that way. When i first started it wasn’t stressful it gradually got to a point where i was in the office at least once a week and going home crying.I never talked bad to anyone or about anyone and always got backlash based off of someone’s else’s opinion. I know that can be any job but i never experienced a manager taking another employee’s side based off favoritism. I stayed to myself and worked with others when i had to because that was the best way to stay out of drama. I wouldn’t want it as a career because i honestly don’t think they pay enough... not to me anyway, I came from SC and i worked a couple different fast foods and made more but to each its own. Samaritan keep home could be a better experience for someone else though they do have great benefits!

My experience at SMC was one of continuous learning since I was new to the Medical profession in the beginning.  A typical day at work was again, regimented which allowed me to become an expert in my field rather quickly.  Insurance contact was intense and learning the different Employee Group Health Plans offered in NY State & their benefits presented a challenge at first.  Providing this education to our Patients was a bitter sweet task as sometimes, their policy didn't accommodate their need and other times, it did.  The hardest part of the job was to remind myself to stop working to take a break!  I enjoyed what I did a great deal.  The most enjoyable part of my job was when I was able to provide a Patient with great news regarding their Insurance and how they were going to cover their scheduled procedure especially when the Patients our of pocket expense was minimal.

There is good in this place, but it's largely overshadowed by poor management from the top and a terrible work/life balance. Administration does not care about its employees, and while the staffing problem is a very real problem, it is perpetuated by a complete failure to lead on the part of the admin team. Burnout is incredibly widespread, and wages are not competitive with surrounding hospitals, or even businesses like Walmart. This place is supposed to be a not-for-profit organization, but it feels like profit is the sole decision maker for upper management. Equipment is decades-old, senior staff receive wage caps in an attempt to force them out, and departments seem to never see any of the various donations made by grateful patients or other organizations. Until there is a shakeup in the way this place is run, I can't recommend working here unless you're really in need of a job.

I was 't paid by SSVILLAGE. I loved my job and hoped to be given the SSV Gift Shop Manager. I worked hard and enjoyed my job there. Every resident I came in contact and waited and I got to know personally and enjoy waiting on. My heart was broken when I was reassigned. Not that A4TD didn't try to get me hired. I had a wonderful connection  with the residents. They loved me as much as I did them. Not only the residents were upset when I was relocated but the SSVILLAGE staff were too. I know this because they told me.  It's a shame that  I was taken away from my job there. My leaving , residents need friendships., activities...who truly care about themwhotruly

I worked in the EKG Department for three and a half years, just recently I had to leave due to the extremely toxic work environment. I left a job that I loved and could thrive in and the staff I worked with knew that. Management time and time again put authority over patient care. I went far and beyond my call of duty to put patient care over authority and was written up for it by staff members to intentionally get me fired. The staff went so far that they completely stopped my educational progression. As a former employee, I refuse to even go to this hospital for patient care. I was an EMT for 13 years and Cardiac Technician for 3.5 years and was very competent in what I did. In return, I was treated cruelly and was a threat to others because of my level of education. As a former employee, I feel it is my duty to inform others of what horrible people work in this department and to steer clear of them. Although, I wish you the best of luck in your employment hunting!

The best part of working at Samaritan addiction services was I felt like I was actually helping clients.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part about working there was the fact that management all the way up to the director had no clue on what appear advocate does or how to supervise one.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
At first the environment was kind of laid back and everybody got along. Then one afternoon my supervisor used curse words at me for something that I didn't even do and this was done in front of all of my coworkers.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would come in by 8:00 a.m. and work till 5:00 p.m. I met with several clients to help them establish services in the area Make a connection with them as a recovery coach.

A typical day at work was like any other day , one minute it will be a fast pace moment then it will be slow but still a lot to do around there. Learned multiple things while i was there how to do sugar checks ect, Management was okay on some levels but im sure thats any place. But they were good about handling things hen it came down to making decisions for there employees and not only them the main focus the residents. My co-workers were AWESOME!!! loved every minute in there working with them, we had a good team every morning so we knew once we all were there it was going to be a good day. Hardest part of my job would be, sometimes the short staff. Making it with out enuff staff is hard and with not having the right amount of staff made it not only hard on us also the residents too.  Just being there really was the enjoyable part of my job great staff and co-workers really.

Managers come and go several times a year. If there’s a decent one that actually knows how to be a manager instead of a yes-man for administration, they meet nothing but resistance from administrators until they get tired of it and move on. Administration cares nothing for providing patient care, only making money for themselves. That’s why the CEO is one of the highest compensated hospital administrators in the state, outside of New York City. Also evidenced in little things, such as they refer to patients as customers in internal messages, instead of patients. Administrators get HUGE bonuses every year, such as an island on the river, while the regular employees, who actually do the work and provide the care, get nothing beyond their normal wages. There are managers that bully employees to the point that over a dozen employees from one department either retired or quit inside of a year.
