I'll start by recognizing my generous teammates and the great perks, such as health insurance and snacks.

That said, there was no upward mobility, nor much honesty, in this position. Despite two years spent sticking my head into exclusive peer meetings from which my manager would tell me to "watch the queue and not worry about it", I enjoyed the security aspect of the job well enough for this to last almost three years. Management consistently referred to me (Masters degree in counterterrorism with a year of executive protection and content moderation experience) as "straight out of college" and "no education in IT" (which led to a salary 30k below that of my peers for doing the exact same work). 

Several months before the layoff, a peer who had "worked from home" for six weeks with minimal availability replaced me as the team federal analyst. Around a month after that, I was called in for a meeting with management and HR for a "performance improvement plan", threatening termination if I failed to "realize the severity of the situation". Management then proceeded to state that peers who had come on after me (such as the employee who missed six weeks of work) had "moved worlds beyond" me. As the only member of our team to have worked seven-day weeks and onboard alone new team members during a company-wide crisis, I pointed out to HR the inconsistency in management's simultaneous decision to keep me working weekends alone for 1.5 years if I were so incompetent as to be on the verge of being fired. No real response.

So, the performance improvement plan begins and I'm referring to other analysts' work, as per procedure and the suggestion of management. Strangely, the majority of other analysts failed to put ANY work notes in their tickets (in security at any tech company, showing your work is pertinent for auditors). I pointed this out - no response, just "You're improving but not enough to get out of the red zone." The next week, "No further errors seen". The following week, "Unfortunately, next week will be your last week. But at least you are a US citizen, so you shouldn't have much issue finding other work." 

Needless to say, by this time, I had seen it coming and it seemed largely financial. They wanted to make it seem like the issue was with my performance, because they needed a reason to save on budget by laying off people who weren't favorites. All in all, the takeaway I would share based on my personal experience is: SNOW offers great benefits, but if you plan on being taken seriously/not let go for no (honest) reason, make sure to only join if you have a university degree in CS or IT. And maybe even be on H1B Visa too (they tend to at least try to transfer you to another office out of sympathy, in this case).

I enjoyed the benefits of a Tech Support Engineer role such as the competitive salary, stock shares, health insurance, free snacks/beer and fun activities. It was a trade off in terms of losing the career focus in order to support and improve upon a trending software platform. The sacrifice of losing a programming career to fulfill a supporting role may be too much for some especially if the trajectory ever changes or if the upward momentum loses its pace. This is scary enough to reconsider the position especially with as many TSEs they do hire. Many! Keep this in mind because there may come a time where the company inevitably lays off its support staff. However, ServiceNOW realizes this and provides an impressive stock share to keep you in place at least 3 years. So understand the tradeoff while considering the long term affects to your career. The culture at ServiceNow is extremely diverse with many technology backgrounds and an array of ethnic culture. It makes for a fun atmosphere with positive energy. However, the work is intense and you will find that you are supporting something you never feel qualified to support, until you fain the experience. Although training is provided, it only touches the service. The platform is comprehensive and you'll have to rely on Senior staff more so than any other job. The teamwork can be hectic because so many are busy with helping others. You'll look forward to a time when you become less reliant while always experiencing something new that needs senior level help. This job requires curiosity and ambition while also remaining positive in light of the customer service aspect. It's a world wide operation so there are colleagues across the world. All together, I wouldn't recommend this position to anyone solidly set in the programming field. You'll lose your skillset and you'll lose experience before you can cash in the stocks. If you don't mind this sacrifice, it's a rewarding position with unknown stability. The company is new since 2004. Good luck.

Servicenow disguises itself as a company that cares about its employees and is all about work life balance. The truth couldn't be further from that. 

When I joined this company 2 years ago, I was so excited and proud. However I learned after a few months that the warm welcome is a facade to there being no work-life balance, middle management treats their employees as nothing more than live bodies there to fulfill their agenda. Management manages upwards and it's EXTREMELY political. People are given raises and bonuses because they kiss up - hard work is not rewarded, only if you are willing to hand over all of your time and life over to them.  Across the board, when you talk to employees in different groups, they are unhappy. But they are sucked in by the stock options (which get taxed at 65% so not even worth it).  Every single person on my team was unhappy, as well as in other departments. 

By the time I quit recently, I was so stressed out and disgusted with the way people are treated, that I left this company with an ulcer which I've never had before, and have severe burnout. 

Putting all of that aside, when you leave the company, there is no exit interview with HR. No one asks you why you're leaving. They do a 5-minute call with several employees at once, telling you where to ship your laptop to and that's ALL. This is the first company I've ever worked out where there is no exit interview asking why employees are leaving. That should tell you everything you need to know about the culture of this company. 

To start off, this company compensates very well.  I have never felt cheated on money, in fact I sometimes I feel like I am getting paid more than I deserve.  Even before I was out of training and productive, I was receiving my full bonus.  Out of all the companies I have worked for, this by far the best compensation and I do not feel like the take advantage on the compensation side.

The platform is the best platform I have ever worked with.  The development team here is top notch and a lot of thought is put into the designs and features provided.  While I struggle with passion about my day to day job, I do not struggle with passion about this platform and what it is capable of.

Unfortunately, this is one of the most political companies i have ever worked for.  I am an engineer but I feel have to be a lawyer in my emails.  There are strict lanes to operate in and a lot of big toes that are easy to step on.  While they talk a lot about being innovative, being innovative is really focused on certain teams.  You really need to understand what your role is and what flexibilities you have and do not have.

The company is broken up into product lines, then under that are Sales, Business Unit, and Outcomes/Support.  Cross department and organization conversations can be very toxic and hostile.  There is a lot of heat about products cross into other lanes.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The comradeship between colleagues in the customer support team.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Employees are left floundering with minimum support from stiff, bureaucratic managers who don't come from a tech background but know how to crack the whip. Management talks about focusing on employees' work-life balance and a family-like environment while dismissing employees' requests for help and proper training, which turns into long periods of hand-holding and low CSATs. Sales teams' culture severely disconnected from the support teams and put unnecessary pressure generating needless negative interactions that lead to a breakdown in communication with no consequences for that behavior.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A focus on an employee-centric and family-like environment is sold as the company culture and management's main concern during onboarding. However, this myth quickly dissipates into thin air and is especially accentuated during crises and short staffing periods. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stress, poor actual support from managers, and micromanagement.

The worst place I ever work and unfortunately still do. Management lies to you about bonuses and Support Operations Management team manipulates team scorecards by using loopholes to show executive directors how well they thrive as a team while tickets get swapped around the globe between teams trying to offset the score. Some managers care more about foozball boozball Before 5 or happy hour than taking time to listen to employee feedback that would help all teams. I heard a manager in integrations say the new branding symbol looks like a toilet seatTT. I witnessed a manager get violent and combative  with employees after hours offsite. They keep job because HR tolerate. This company lie to you give shares of stock and expect you to work weekends when there is coverage.  We eat our own dog food here. Training is poor and training feedback is never heard by the greater people. Management pretend to go out of way for you to get you trained and hit you with stick in back making it look like your fault and not poor management directives. If things don’t change I’m going to leave and never come back.  If still have job think twice. Their stock value is fluff.  More to come when know more. Stay tune.

The 24/7 intensity of a rapidly growing organization requires you to always be on top of your game. If you are an SME, you must also always keep up with the latest trends and knowledge.

Strong OneTeam Culture, Collaboration, and Innovation. Global team engagement includes open flex and hybrid working opportunities. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Maintain engagement across timezones via email, MS Teams, Teams Chat, SharePoint site collaboration. Back to back meetings - time management is key. End the day wrapping up actionable insights from the day followed by plan for the next day and week.

The people who work for ServiceNow are amazing.  Highly intelligent, hard working, and team supporting.  If you need help, they are there for you!

The challenge is this:  Billable hours are the mantra in Professional Services.  You are constantly pushed to make your billable hours, but you have limited or no control over what is sold.  If you are not meeting your billable hours, which varies in requirements from quarter to quarter based on what Sales "says" they are going to close, you are constantly reminded that you have not met your quota.

Though there is never an overt "threat" that you will be let go if you don't meet your hours, there are enough "reminders" that make you feel insecure.

If you are technical at ServiceNow, this is not a problem.  There is always more than enough work.  If you are non-technical (process, organizational change, governance), this is a constant challenge.  ServiceNow, despite individual groups attempts to change the culture, is a "Software House" -- platform is king.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is a TOTAL mess. In a year and a half, I have had 3 managers, and the current one is one of the worst in my career. 
There have been 3 Department heads in my year and a half, They are chronically understaffed
The training is SUB PAR.
They have on regular bases 50+ unassigned cases that just sit until they are about to SLA. and I am in one of 7 teams 
They never stick with an objective to see if it is working, they take little or no input form the people on the front line


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They give lip service to things but It totally depends on the manager to how you are treated, There is little or NO intra-team assistance.
Everything is cliche based on the team you are assigned

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
very few calls form customers but constant emails and case work on complicated issues with almost no assistance

Workdays can be long but I learned a lot, from development lifecycle to Customer Success. Management is committed and smart, but communication is key. The workplace culture is what you make it. Diversity and respect were a core value. The hardest part was the travel commitment. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with extremely smart people eager to share knowledge. However, people are very busy so it can be hard to get time with others.  Building relationships is important. It's difficult to get into ServiceNow, but once you're in, upward and lateral movement is easy. The company is very large and global, and working with other teams is a common thing, so learning your position, whether you are great at it or not, takes time and a huge willingness to find information on your own. But lots of training is provided.
