Skywood Recovery

Loved working at skywoo recovery center. Lots of education regarding addiction, recovery and care. Best nursing job I have experienced. The job itself is great. Management on the other hand not so much. I was the last nurse to leave with the most seniority. I even trained the DON. With all positions open up they still would not let me go to 1st shift as promised a year and a half later. They changed the rules as they went at Their convenience.  I left in 2018. Might be different now. Assessments, charting, intakes, injections, protocols, ordering medications, vitals, emergency care. Patients are very appreciate for the most part as this is private insurance and they are there because they want the help. Very nice to be appreciated unlike a lot of nursing jobs. This is team nursing. 2-4 nursing working at a time. Nice to bounce ideas off each other.

A typical day in the therapist role is fast paced, and one can be expected to shuffle priorities as they arise. During my time there I learned about an evidence based practice for those who live with PTSD as well as SUD. Management does not provide clinical supervision or training. Workplace culture is in a state of overwhelm. The hardest part of the job is identifying ones role and fulfilling that without suffering consequences as the result of mistakes. Working at a naturally beautiful location like Skywood in a rewarding role such as helping people with issues of mental health and addiction is the most enjoyable part of the job.

Management likes you to believe  you can come to them any time but whatever you do  dont actually  do it!They act like they  are open to feed back but dont waste your breath ..definitely not the case. It
 is rewarding work  and  great to help  facilitate  people  changing their lives but raises are poor  with an increasing workload without fair compensation. You at times will be asked to work  a double shift and expected to  return for your scheduled shift with very little  sleep. You will be thrown  into situations with little or no training and be held responsible  for handling  it correctly.

A typical day at Skywood consisted of prepping charts for our providers. I worked off a manual scheduling system to ensure all patients were scheduled for their necessary appointments to see providers.
I would have to say over all, management was exceptional. I think there are always ways to improve communication between departments and would return to skywood at the drop of a hat.
My co-workers were awesome! Although there are/were personality issues at time, we all had the team attitude and worked through them.
The hardest part of the job was having to leave.
To count how many things were enjoyable would be nearly impossible.

The nursing staff had no support from high management. We had multiple admissions on any given shift whether we had 1, 2 , or 3 nurses. It didn't matter to the CEO. We also had to give meds to 45 - 55 patients. Plus everything else we had to do.  We had meds times posted so we could get our other stuff done.
 But it didn't matter the patients or upper management but they did not respect that.
  The director of nursing and the providers advocated for us, trying to get the admissions spaced more. But it all went in one ear and out the other.

My first month, I was led astray several times by other staff. Patients who paid out of pocket were treated like god’s and could never be told no. Meanwhile patients who were insurance based weren’t treated equally. Staff went against each other, My check hours were often short of the actual hours I worked. Just overall bad work environment, many staff who were hired immediately started looking for new work a month or so in. I wouldn’t recommend working here to anyone Unless you have no choice!

Management and the staff consistently go above and beyond in helping people that are struggling with dual diagnosis disorders. The majority of the staff are amazing to work with, however just like anywhere else there are always the toxic employees that want to go against everything and slander their own managers and coworkers. Amazing facility and workers overall. The facility is saving and changing lives on a daily basis.

I love working at Skywood! At times, it can be challenging when we have new patients and they aren’t cooperative. But all jobs have challenging aspects. The leadership team not only rewards hard work but step in to help anyway they can. Even on the weekend the CEO has helped give tours to prospective patients and they all make themselves available to help solve any problems that arise. 
I appreciate their willingness to help and take time out of their normal workload to help with mine!

Unsafe staffing, not having tools to do job. (Computers constantly slow/not working), incompetent leadership

Disorganized, chaotic,  high turnover, nepotism.

Disorganized, unrealistic staff/patient ratio

There is an obvious ‘in’ staff crowd and if you don’t fit in with them, they will eat you alive. The departments are so understaffed not only is the staffs’ mental health being jeopardize, the patients’ safety is as well. The HR director is not helpful to the staff and if she doesn’t like you, she in so many words tells you to look for another job. It’s a very hostile work environment which includes a great deal of bullying.
