Typical day at work would be coming in and getting log sheets and admit/discharge papers together. Turning in meal plans for the day and on coming shifts. Transporting state or aka rehab clients to their groups. Doing accountability or checks every hour. If someone is on detox making sure their detox checks are getting completed every 15 min/30 min/1 hour/ and every 8 hours. Now, if you are in charge of the CRS clients which would be the federal inmates, you would be doing the same except making sure their passes are filled out if they are able to leave and making sure accountability checks are complete every hour. Room searches and sanitation has to be done as well. If you are medication certified and are scheduled to work in the med room then you have to count all the pills beginning of shift and make sure you pass out medications during scheduled medication times. If you have to get ahold of pharmacies for refills, BOP, or VA you have to make sure you do it 2 hours before end of shift. 
I have learned a lot about drug addictions and how mental illness plays in with it. I have identified a lot of drugs and have become a master at room searches. 
I will be honest, management is pretty poor. The place is poorly ran, but the techs all pull together and play their part to keep the place running. All the techs have everyones back so if something goes wrong you will never be alone. 
The hardest part about the job is watching clients go through detox. Coming off a lot of the hard drugs such as heroine and alcohol is extremely dangerous. I am greatful for everyone who has a drug addiction coming in to get help and change their lives around. Sometimes its not always successful but we try to do the best we can. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing clients discharge and doing 100 percent better than what they come in. Sometimes running into them at the grocery store and them thanking you for helping and saving their lives.

The job itself is rewarding. The relationships we all develop with our clients is enough to keep most people working there even through the treatment we receive by upper management and the culture of shaming, demeaning, overworking, blaming, and generally dehumanizing their staff. They show little to no appreciation for anything positive - and we do a lot of positive things - but they constantly focus on any negative thing, for which they offer no support and no realistic or fair solution, and they continually expect more - more duties, more effort, more responsibility for each person so they can have less staff providing more services - while giving less - less pay, less benefits, less support, less staff to help you, and less care for each of us as a person. They’ve recently gone to a pay system where they pay direct care staff their (paltry) pay rate for any time they spend billing, and minimum wage for any other time they spend on the clock. It was meant to be a punishment for anyone not “working hard enough” to get their productivity. Meanwhile, they keep hiring salaried management and spending more on that than they would if they’d just pay their staff what they’re worth and provide decent benefits and a positive, growth environment. There are numerous bosses telling you what you’re doing wrong and how much harder you should work, but they pretty much never tell you what you do well, give you incentives to improve other than not getting in trouble, or even just do little things to show you that you matter and are valued. Everyone I work with is constantly stressed to the point of being on the verge of tears or some other kind of breakdown, we’re all gaining weight, and we all are looking for other jobs. We desperately need help, because most of our staff left when they implemented the new pay policy, but I don’t recommend working here.

Job security and advancement
In terms of job security at Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health, I think it is horrible. You never know, from day to day, what policy changes the CEO and COO will put in place from one day to the next. Someone should really contact DMH and let them know about what is going on there.

Management
In general, managers at Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health suck. They have little to no experience in Behavioral Health. Their JRI/ICTS program is the only program the CEO and COO give a rip about. The rest of the programs are a waste of their time.

Culture
Collaboration with my colleagues at Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health is highly looked down upon. The CEO and COO are both MBA's with no clinical experience. They don't want you to collaborate with other clinicians, "just take their word for it".

Overall
My experience working at Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health was horrible, although there are some good people that have their hands tied.

In my time employed with this company, I was constantly baffled by the extreme lack of structure, supervision, organization and care for their employees in general. It was a very stressful, erratic, and sometimes dangerous (with zero security I might add), place to work. I enjoyed the actual work itself, but had no supervision or direction when a problem would arise. No one seemed to have an answer for anything and would pass the buck on a constant basis, which left employees to be forced to make the best guess possible to solve  problems that would arise, and if it turned out to be wrong, would result in being yelled at and belittled in the presence of clients and other co workers. 

Being a private agency, it is for the most part, ran in a way that consisted of last minute, fly by night decisions with no structure or consistency whatsoever. 

I learned during my time there that it is basically a pit stop for most employees who wind up quitting due to the reasons listed above or just leave for a better job in general. 

I do not recommend this employer to anyone.

If it's not your first job or you care about your mental health this is not the place. It's a skeleton of something that clearly was useful at one time. However, the toxic culture that starts with the CEO is in the very fabric of this wilting organization. There are no actual leaders only bosses and for the most part inept and hostile ones. 

If things arent going well fiscally in the organization the CEO will cut all the lower peoples pay, treat them horribly then hire yet another extremely high paid chief to tell all of the staff that the culture is the staff not the fault of the executive team that created the culture and have been there for 23+ years. But what would you expect from the biggest treatment body broker in Missouri?

Just don't unless you have to but make plans to jump ship quickly because this place is circling the drain. 

I was so excited to get a job outside of food service but was not prepared for just how exhausting this job is. I work as a behavioral health tech and the management above me is a micro manager to the extreme. She keeps adding new thing to our job description and has a total lack of respect for her employees. Every meeting she harps about how she doesn't need us, we are all replaceable, and she could do our jobs in her sleep. Would not recommend this job for anyone with even the slightest backbone as we are all expected to roll over and do as we are told. We dont get paid enough to do all the tasks we are expected to do as techs and we get looked down on. Also we have no protection or training for angry clients, I watched one of the techs get punched three times, and another tech almost had her vehicle stolen. Definitely don't get paid enough for all that.

"MNGMT"-Lack engagement. Micromanage. Needs LEADERS not "bosses". No clear therapeutic/treatment focused vision except to make money.
$$ over successful reintegration of individuals. SMBH NEEDS high recidivism rate to keep company going.

Organizational team dev. & communication frowned upon by upper "bosses". 
Typical non-profit: they make the rules; secrecy; hide things; and don't have to answer to anyone.



When I worked at this circus they were pushing out the clients that were there for drug treatment early. They were mostly focused on the federal inmates. They gave little considerations to their employees and how many hours they were working. I had to do grounds checks alone. The training was inadequate and you were NOT allowed to tell the drug treatment clients about the medications they were on (even though I was certified). I was suspended for this. I did not return after my suspension was up. I was called multiple times about coming back. I made it clear that I was disgusted with how they were running the facility. Then they had the nerve to send me a survey about how it was to work for them. I think this place should be shut down. They are only there for the federal funds.

This Agency is a great place to work, can be counted on to provide needs for the staff to provide services to the clients. They have a fleet of Agency Vehicles in all areas served that staff use in their daily work to provide services to their clients in the community. The Agency is very supportive of staff. This Agency provides time off in the form of Vacation, Sick, Holiday and Personal Holiday for staff to use as they wish. Staff are paid biweekly, medical insurance is offered for the staff member that is not very expensive. The Agency absorbs insurance premium increases as an added benefit to the staff members at times.

The problem with this company is not everyone is created equal.... when I say that what I mean is, depending on who you are working under; chances are you will never see a promotion. The supervisor will sabotage any chance for potential advancement. I am not sure what kind of culture is being fostered here when the supervisors, managers and executive staff engage in subterfuge, gossip, and deception on a regular basis. During the pandemic, the executive staff have been misleading about expectations. Leadership has shown itself to be ungrateful to those who do work; there is a complete lack of empathy to their staff.  The CEO is ridiculous.
