Attendance policy very strict & unlike anywhere I’ve worked in 27 yrs.  Lack of structure to orientation because Nurses were too busy to precept. Even the best nurses need a decent orientation.  No shift differential.  The way  they categorize full and part-time is odd & unrealistic when it comes to hours, like 32 & you get partial benefits and 34.5 makes you full time. (?) One resident was coughing horribly to the point other residents & family were asking if it’s contagious.  I don’t know!  Then, when I become sick after working 2 -12.5 hr & 1-6 hour PM “orientation” shift, with my nurse saying you need to go home, you can’t learn or work when you’re sick. I left after working 6 hours PM, wore a mask and did the best I could.  Over next few days, I am coughing up green phlegm with a fever, go to a doctor and follow their guidance, do the responsibe thing and keep my Manager informed, letting her know in advance I’m not well enough to work, I’m called on a Friday afternoon, 3 days after being out, and nicely told I’m terminated because I had 3 occurrences.  I was on antibiotics, prednisone, muccinex, steroidal nasal spray, ludens sore throat drops, immune support, etc & was legit sick.  Most places treat consecutive days out as 1 occurrence, but not Sprenger. “It’s in the policy.”  Funny, how I observed  others show up for work then leave, or not show up, or call the correct person.  Inconsistency. Hard to get answers from management.   Staffing is going to be an issue too. I feel badly for the 1 Nurse responsible for the Skilled Nursing Unit and the Assisted Living Unit. And how is a Nurse able to orient another nurse efficiently or thoroughly?  Oh, I expressed my concern about not having current CPR, which they knew when I was hired, saying it would be available.  I felt very uncomfortable working where there are full code residents & CPR was not addressed. The medication delivery system is archaic and a mistake waiting to happen.  Was told by another Nurse that I needed to be careful what I say because the culture is catty & gossipy.  Hmmm, perhaps becoming sick saved me, my license & integrity.  One Nurse asked about the intervention of “offering emotional support, reassurance & encouragement”~SERIOUSLY?  The residents are people not just meds to be given or tasks to be done.  A few of the Nurses were very helpful & one was very honest, validating my perceptions from the get go.  I am grateful though, that I gave love and kindness with a positive attitude for the several times I was there.   I truly wish them well because the DON & ADON seem to be good people. They definitely have their hands full.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The so-called "Sprenger Way" does NOT result in good quality therapy services, but rather the opposite is true.  The therapists have to focus too much on productivity while using an awful computer program that is bloated, slow, and archaic (Rehab Optima).  Therapy staff frequently push their computer dollies around the facility to the patients rooms instead of transporting them to the therapy department in order to promote being productive, resulting in the patients spending less time actually in the therapy gyms using the equipment.  Rehab techs are usually too busy and dedicated to the DOR to assist with staff and transporting patients.  Therapy staff are wasting way too much time on these computers instead of providing good hands-on therapy services.  The computers are also locked out from licensed professional therapists being able to use to look up medical information on the internet.  Other shortcomings of Sprenger is that therapy staff have to work most holidays, and get no holiday pay regardless.  The benefits with this company are not very good.   Didn't get a raise after 1 year despite having years of experience and having a good review.  They have a rather high rate of staff leaving in all departments.

Lacks good leadership.  Seems like always trying to recruit managers to fill the holes for those who have left.

I quit and switched to PRN.  I get used a lot because they always need extra help.

Management is sorry, poorly structured, and doesnt know how to treat or appreciate their staff. Tjey have such a high turn over because they dont keep their agreements with staff and they favoritize the lazy co-workers. Management doesnt stick to a schedule that was agreed upon and then says idk what to tell you. Angie thompson is a gossiper and two-face, she now does scheduling and will get u fired and purposely take ur hours if she doesnt like u. Ana-admin and the new DON dont know how to treat ppl, and dont care about you as a person. They try to belittle people and are not helpful with solving issues. Assisted living is not a true assisted living, they have residents who are total care and on hospice. They are understaffed. I had a family death and they were not trying to accommodate around my absencse what so ever. They call staff liars, and dont care to hear what you have to say. Avoid this place, it gives unnecessary stress, work load is heavy, the do have rats/mice. They have a heating system there that doesnt work right and owners refuse to pay 30,000 to fix so its extremely cold in there. Just avoid it. They fired me because i asked to go PRN and they couldnt grant me it so they said they had to terminate me...bogus honestly. Co workers are sneaky, and talk about you and who act like they like you but the moment u arent around they talk about you. Just dont work in twinsburg. They start at 17 for nurses and 9/10 for pcas...not worth it. Theyre all about budget and over work their staff and management  dont life a finger to help out. People will leave u out to dry and throw you under the bus quick!! Its poor work environment to work at.

Where do I start, I should of knew something was wrong here during the interview process. The manager blasted me through the facility and explained the job fast then offered me the job. They throw a rediculous amount of responsibilty on you and expect you to learn on the fly. I honestly got 2 days of training, then they would meet with me and give me a poor reviews because I wasnt doing things how they wanted. I would work eleven straight days before I got one day off. You can tell know one likes working there, they take it out on the residents which is not right. Alot of the people where disrespectful to the residents, it was very upsetting. It is like high school there, managers and employees talking bad about each other behind there back, it was rediculous. I was getting letters written up about me that were given to the manager by these high school kids that worked in the evening. Then they would laugh about it and the manager would jokingly talk about it with me. Then the cherry on top of the cake was when I got sick, the doctor said I needed a few days off. So I called the manager, he said as long as I have a doctors excuse that I would be fine. So a fews days later I come in with the doctors excuse, with no words he took me to his office put a paper down to sign off on my termination. He told me so long and that was that I was fired and I didnt know why, all he said is he got letters from these high school kids. It was the most unprofessional place ever and I hope whoever reads this never waists there time applying to work here or think this is a good place for there older family members.

Sprenger health care of port royal is a beautiful building but once you start working there that's when everything started...I work in the kitchen as a cook and when I tell you favoritism plays a big roll in a work place it does... It's not what you know it's who you know. The new manager over dietary now(10/18-present) is the worst management I've ever seen.He knows there very short handed and he doesn't help the workers he goes home and be on facebook with his dog instead of helping his short hand worker's jamie is a sorry manager!!...Need a better manager asap!!!!... Certain workers can call off or no show and don't get write up and then you have some brings in a excuse of why they couldn't come in and they still get write up(there goes that favoritism) they clock out without him knowing and leaves the job and next day no write up!!!...A lot of drama goes on in that kitchen in port royal..The food is prepared very nasty ,no gloves used by the kitchen staff when handling residents food,a lot of food missing from cooler and freezer, kitchen not getting cleaned properly.He doing all this hiring and still hasn't hiried the kitchen staff a dishwasher but busy still hiring people for other positions."Hirier a dishwasher help the kitchen staff and stop coming to work drunk.Give those worker's who have been there since day one before your time give them there every other weekend off like they were promised when they got hiried!!!......Sprenger give those employee's what was promised to them doing orientation!!!! Remember your word is your bond!!!!Live by y'all's!!!!!

I was very excited to start working here. Unfortunately that quickly went away after being here for a month. the entire facility dirty, infested with bugs and mice, and is never cleaned very well. The people I worked with were very difficult, and even people on other shifts were very rude. There is obvious favoritism going on. Management expected you to come in even if you were sick, had an emergency, or anything similar. Management didn’t seem to care about trying to resolve any issues. Was told by not only management, but other employees that the things they are suppose to be taking care of “were not their job”. The pay is not fair. If you have experience with doing this kind of work, it doesn’t help get you a pay that is liveable. You get a raise each year on the day you were hired, but it’s only a 1-2% raise. Work life balance was terrible. Second and third shift employees were expected to be available on their nights off in case of a call off, just because management didn’t want to come in. Overall it was stressful when it should not have been that stressful. It was awful. Also third shifters did not get a lunch break. They are expected to eat if they want to, on the clock which isn’t terrible, but it was easily interrupted. Also the time clock automatically takes out a 30 minute lunch break, so they would have to be taken out by management but I heard that didn’t happen unless they were reminded to. Insurance was way to much to pay for biweekly for what it was. 

If you’re planning on working in the nursing department for Village of the Falls, I recommend you RUN. For assisted living, the DON will have you pivot transfer DEAD WEIGHT residents (fit for LTC) with no proper material. Hoyer lifts are not permitted in the facility because of course it is assisted living

The showers are usually between 4 to 5 residents per day which is 2 or 3 residents per person which that’s fine... UNTIL someone calls off. Then you’re expected to do all 5 showers with little sympathy from the DON. Same goes for laundry.

After 12PM, that’s when the 7-12 caregiver leaves and everyone pages to go to back to their rooms from the dining room or go to the restroom. Again, no sympathy. You can ask for help but chances are they are “too busy”. There’s a 7-12 and 4-9 person because Sprenger Health Care wants to save money and only have 1 caregiver after a certain time which is messed up. 

If you’re 2nd shift 3-11 caregiver, you’ll be working alone before 4 PM after 9 PM and there’s no nurses after 10 PM. 

All that for less than a Hamilton unless you’re state tested then it’s a buck more. 

The co-workers are incredible however. They’ll help you even if it’s not on their job description. They all know how to work together as a TEAM and no other facility ever has people that are this helpful. 

The residents you care for are so sweet and the sad part is they know how hard you work and they do feel sorry. 

I wouldn’t recommend anyone working in the nursing department even to my worst enemy.

The DON gets mad about stupid things but things that really matter she brushes off, no backbone. The ADON and other nurse managers (except 1) don't want to do any work so now they make a list of what needs done and hands it to the floor nurse instead of actually doing any of the work they should be doing or helping with. When I first started the management was different they actually tried to help and did their own jobs and would come out and ask the floor nurses if they needed any help and assist if the floor nurses were behind. Sorry to see those managers go its completely different now and not a sense of team, its who case pass the buck to the next nurse the most. The nurse managers sit on their butts while the floor nurses are drowning.  Then there is the admissions lady that doesn't even tell you that you have an Admission until they are bringing them through the door, and because they can't keep staff because everyone is so burnt out from being overwhelmed and overworked that the admissions nurse is usually on the floor working, so no one can help you with putting things in the computer and now you have your floor and all the paperwork yourself and the Admission is already here that you know nothing about ! That happened to me more times than I can count! The managers are truly running it into the ground, I wouldn't send a dying pet to that facility, let alone a loved one! Filthy too ! Yuck !

What is the best part of working at the company?
My experience at this facility as a contractor was unfortunately one of the most challenging I have encountered. The management team appeared disengaged and, at times, unresponsive, which made collaboration difficult.
Additionally, the current lead dietitian demonstrated a management style that felt overly controlling, with expectations that were often unclear or unrealistic. This created a work environment that was difficult to navigate and, in my opinion, may contribute to the high turnover among dietitians.
I would encourage the organization to evaluate its leadership approach and consider the underlying reasons why dietitians are not remaining with the company. For those considering a position here, I recommend carefully assessing whether the environment aligns with your professional expectations before accepting an offer.

The other one star review was very accurate to village of the falls. Certain employees are favored and babied more than others, if you fall in the 20-25 year age range. They will be nice to you for the first four months, and then they will demand the most from you, and there is certainly no appreciation from the employer for the hard work you do. You will be left alone some days/nights, and there is no sympathy for you. You're on your own and no thank yous, no way the don will come in to help you in the middle of the night when you have to care for someone who cannot be transferred with just one person. This happens quite a bit and get used to it, as it can happen for months because they don't want you to leave so they have to find someone else. The residents are amazing people, but this place doesn't use hoyers so be prepared to be lifting and transferring people you wouldn't have to in a nursing home. They pay is insulting, for a caregiver. This job is good if you're in high school and to get a feel for health care but please leave when you can! Can't live off the pay with a family and a mortgage. You might as well work at other assisted livings that use hoyers so you're no hurting your back and get paid at least 20 cents more for a starting RA wage
