Work-life balance
Never know when you are leaving. Scheduled mandatory late shifts weekly with no end times specified. Could be scheduled 8 hours and work till 10 pm. Hard to make appointments because you don’t know start times the next day. Could be a early or late start which affects when you leave. Management is terrible. They cater to a handful of favorites who sit and do nothing constantly while the rest of the staff gets hammered

Pay & benefits
Pay is about 8 dollars below other hospitals in the area. Management doesn't care. No cost of living raise this year. Hours were cut over 50 percent during covid

Job security and advancement
Other than a few favorites of those in charge people are unable to voice their opinions and are worked like dogs. Charge people and favorites get off whenever they want

Worst management ive ever seen in any hospital or state i have worked in. Employees frequently called in office and blamed for things. Management and charge people talk behind employees backs and use them. Very bad work atmosphere unless your a favorite

Underpaid, pressure filled environment with managers and charge people that don’t back you. Worked here 4 yrs and went through 3 managers.staff talk about each other. Worst place i ever worked and couldn’t wait to leave

St. Clair Hospital is creating an image toward advanced healthcare and patient experience by remaining independent but competeing with big hospitals like UPMC and AGH but are not really much different. They offer a competitive wage and benefits compared to any other hospital. SCH boasts patient care but fail to realize that employees are patients, too. I had difficulty seeing providers that I desperately needed and found little flexibility with my department. Training was much longer and much less effective than it could be. Resources were scattered, training was rushed to fill the open slot with promises of finishing but never having time. It is too much to ask an employee not fully or properly trained to perform as well as others while not offering the tools for my position or a guide to expectations. A number one healthcare provider should give their employees the tools to succeed. Instead, they have promoted failure. They failed me and I, in turn, failed them.

I enjoyed working for St. Clair Hospital. My manager, who no longer works there, he is a wonderful person and was always supportive.

His boss at that time, who was the Executive Director of Emergency Services and Patient Logistics, however, is the most rude man, I have ever met in my entire life, in this world. It makes me so sad that St. Clair Hospital would keep him as an employee. He is now Executive Director, Chief of Staff to the Chief Medical Officer.

I also met a Nurse Manager who lies. I do not think a liar is the best environment for patients to be taken care of, because when you are a patient being taken care of in your hospital room, you want to be able to trust the people taking care of you. 

Hospitals are supposed to be a place where you feel safe, welcome and know that all the employees are going to help take care of you.

Also, if an employee fills out a report and sends it to Human Resources, the employee should be able to sit down and prove from security cameras what exactly happened. Not everyone in Human Resources is unfair, however, the fact that Human Resources completely overlooks employees who are the lowest on the chain of command in a hospital and immediately takes the side of the person higher on the chain of command is unfair.

Very busy community hospital which is a non teaching facility with many first assisting possibilities. I believe that to be the most difficult part of the job. The most enjoyable part of the job is location, benefits, and compensation. Co-workers are enormously experienced and trained in there services and duties. A typical day at work consists of assisting the surgical team in the Operating Room
Pass instruments, sponge and suture to surgeons
Prepare sterile supplies and maintain sterile field
Check and restock operating room
Set up sterile back table
Perform instrument and sponge counts with circulator
Perform closing count
Assist in cleanup of the operating room after procedures
Assist and relieve for lunches at any point during the case
Prep and Draping the patients before surgery	First assisting- retracting, cutting suture, holding laparoscopic equipment, cleaning and dressing 
Management is very involved and educational

My experience at St. Clair Hospital overall is generally good. They work with you and your schedule if you are involved in things outside of work like school or groups you are in. If they are able they do their best to make your schedule work for you. The coworkers are friendly and easy to get along with. If you need help someone is usually willing to lend a hand if they are available. It is difficult however to meet the numbers the expect of us sometimes due to delays from having to wait for the nurses to finish up with patients before we can take them, or waiting for a while to get onto an elevator, especially if one or more elevators are down at a time, and everyone in the hospital has to use the few elevators that are still working. The most enjoyable part was how everyone in my department is willing to help one another if one person can't find help sliding patients onto the gurneys. Also, most of my coworkers are willing to switch shifts with one another as long as both are able to make it work.

I just left my position as a patient transporter after about 4 months. The department couldn't be run by  more careless people. I wanted to quick after a week, but stuck it out to see if things would get better. There's one employee that doesn't have to work when he's there, and everyone else has to pick up the slack. Staffing is also already very poor. I would've gave a better rating on advancement though, but the escort supervisor lied and had a couple employees let go when he heard they were trying to advance within the hospital. That's also a poor reflection on human resources, because they continue to ignore the problem in transport, which is him. That's why everyone left and the staffing is so critical. There's alot of cool people around the hospital that you can learn from though. I was hoping to advance from the escort department, but I was scared of what the boss might do. Maybe I'll re-apply for another position eventually, but it was a really bad experience in that department. 

I've been an employee at St Clair Hospital for 8 years. In terms of advancement it's a great place to work. I started in food service as a foot in the door and based on their hiring within I have been able to work up to being an aide. Depending on the department you work in will really set the tone for your work day. Management is hit or miss and considering it's a hospital, it is not always easy work. Over the last few years of working there it feels more and more that patient and employee safety has taken a back burner to earning a dollar. As an aid who cares for relatively high acuity patients it is not uncommon for me to have a ratio of 20-25:1 with the nurses also having a ratio of 6-8:1. I have learned a lot in my time working here and my coworkers are my main reason for staying. But at 14.75/hr it is not sustainable especially once factoring in the mental and physical toll this job takes.

The management cares little for the safety of the staff and patients. Almost every floor is very understaffed. Half of the nurses barely speak English which makes communication difficult.  The other half of the nurses are either burnt out or just miserable to deal with in the first place. The Doctors from the ER to the hospitalists are either mostly incompetent or totally incompetent.

The patient population primarily comes from the many nursing homes in the area which means very elderly and in very poor health. The rest of the patient population treat the hospital and its staff like they're at a hotel. 

Stay away from working at this place unless it's your last resort and even then I'd probably rather switch careers.

After learning my assignment as a floor RN on a cardiac telemetry unit, I proceed to gather all the information that is needed to care for that patient. Once all that information is obtained by recent progress notes, therapy notes, discharge planning notes and recent tests/labs that have been completed, I meet with the charge nurse, case manager and social worker for a brief summary of each patients care.  I have been with my manager for 15 1/2 years. We respect each other.  As do my coworkers and I. We are a team and work closely together. The hardest part of my job is when staffing is less than normal. The work load is very demanding.  The best part of my job are by far taking care of my patients and spending time with them. Making their stay as pleasant as it can be.

I recommend working at St. Clair Hospital to anyone who is interested in working in the medical field. You have to have know your medical information that you learned in school. You also need to have patience whether you are working with patients or hospital staff.

Three people who work at St. Clair Hospital should not be working there because they are breaking the rules and getting away with it. This is unfair to all the other Employees of the hospital who follow the rules at work.

The three of you know who you are and you should resign from your positions and find other jobs but not in a hospital setting.
