Working in human services for an accumulative decade at this stage in my life, I can say without question Stepworks USED to be a pretty joyous place to work. Slowly over time, as with other jobs, things change and powers get shifted. Management began to slip after administrative changes. Staff run the show at Stepworks and it shows, the staff themselves are clickish and cast all duties onto one staff member. Not just speaking from experience, I had seen other strong, reliant staff members drop like flies for the same reason. Any reliable staff member hightailed out of the facility for fairer jobs. It all boils down to the heads up top. The culture is s***, and the facility is ran like it's on fire. People that were once shift leads were given the imaginary title of "shift supervisor" and egos quickly began running rampant. If you aren't concerned with your coworkers personal dramas or stroking their egos, you become persona non grata. If you apply here, best advice I can give is to not worry about anything. You won't get fired. The job itself isn't an issue, it's a noble cause and it's worth seeing the patients actually putting in effort and trying to better their lives. It's literally everything else surrounding it. The staff that are supposed to be a beacon of hope for people with very little of it don't care and are only worried about themselves. Don't cry to administration, they'll just cry with you instead of actually tackling a solution. Stay away. Stay far away. Consequences aren't real for bad workers in this facility. Indeed says I still work here. I clearly do not.

I encourage you to seek employment thru different channels before considering this company. After experiencing employment with this organization, I discovered the workplace culture is stated to be "Tribe" oriented. However, the social division is the only thing tribe related during the work day. The most enjoyable part of the job is communicating with the residents/clients and practicing the skills they provide to you during training. Many of the trainings are computer based with the exception of a few hands on trainings. The hardest part of the job is the company not being a people-oriented company. They lay out unclear ever changing expectations of you. Some days you are expected to preform with in your job description, other days you are required to step out side of your job description when it is convenient. Some days you have equality among the staff and other days everyone is divided and placed into a pyramid of hierarchy. Despite following direction expectations are again changed with out verbal communication and employees are chastised. Administration violates employees confidentiality and fuels the toxic work environment by sharing confirmed and gossiped information with colleagues though out the organization. Integrity seems to be lacking in the majority of major aspects.

Stepworks has given me the work/life balance that I have been looking for in a company. I feel respected in my current role and have an amazing and knowledgeable boss/teammate that helps me succeed with my career path with Stepworks. I enjoy working for this company and I continue to learn something new everyday! 

I am so glad this company gave me a chance to show my work ethic and work strengths when I had very little HR experience, but great communication skills. Every job has hiccups along the way, but I feel respected enough to know that if I make a mistake, I own it, learn from it, and try again. I have worked for many companies that do not have this mindset and it makes it hard to learn and grow in that type of environment. I genuinely feel like I am a great asset to the team and feel like my input matters.

Stepworks Recovery Centers are filled with great facility administrators and employees that are welcoming with open arms for individuals in need of sobriety. These employees are knowledgable and ready to help individuals face their addiction head on in hopes they will keep up with their sobriety once they are done with their treatment. I strongly believe that Stepworks Recovery is a great place to work if you are willing to be compassionate, helpful, positive and kind to one another.

When I was first contacted about this job with Stepworks, I had some reservations. It was a little out of my comfort zone from the type of environment I had grown used to.  I'm SO glad I took the chance and came on board.  I've now been with Stepworks Recovery Centers for almost 2 years now and this place, by far, has been my favorite job!  I have the pleasure of working with a terrific and diverse management team who are always ready to lend an ear and their knowledge when I need it.  It truly takes a team to operate all of our wonderful facilities and work together to offer help to those suffering from addiction.  I've met and worked with many different types of individuals in various positions, from recovery coaches, therapists, providers, etc. and have enjoyed getting to know and work with them all. As the HR Coordinator, I have always prided myself on helping our employees with all of their needs, whether it be PTO, insurance, onboarding or whatever they may need.  Here at Stepworks, each facility has their tribe of employees who become not only co-workers but a work family who put their primary focus on our clients. That's evident every time you walk in one of our facilities!  I have learned so much in my time with Stepworks and I'm excited to see what the future holds for this ever growing company and all of our employees.

This company has a lot of pros but sadly the cons overshadow most of the things that make working here great.

Pros:
- Most of the team is great to work with

- Lots of potential to learn/refine skills

- Chance to work on variety of projects and with clients in different sectors.

- Company is big on team building and treat their employees well for most part


Cons:
- Few opportunities to be creative

- lots of favouritism in workspace

- no opportunities to make decisions/influence final ideas

- Has a school like vibe: eg. your work is judged like an essay paper and employee reviews are a joke.

- No room to grow: there are no opportunities/roles to advance to, you work with limited freedom and cannot contribute to projects. You will work long hours, learn, make money but thats it, it's a stepping stone.

- Intrusive and unfair decision making: you need to cater the needs of biased decision makers eg. you need approval of several people to get smallest tasks done

- work very long hours

- Management is pretentious and unprofessional: very nice when things are going smoothly but deal with bigger/serious issues with naivety and little self regard.

Conclusion: you learn alot, work alot, but dont expect to go in thinking you can work here for a long time. You will have the same role/freedom in 1 year as you will in 4 years.

Working at Stepworks will be one of the most rewarding jobs you have from a patient standpoint, but the company itself is quite the opposite. It's amazing watching patients transform from active addiction to 30+ days sober, but their treatment of employees is inexcusable. You will not be fairly compensated and the company doesn't give out any raises, unless promoted. You will not advance within the company unless you have a degree, but they won't assist you in getting one or give you the flexibility to do so. The company is family-owned and worries mostly about making money, at the expense of patient outcomes and satisfaction. The facilities are falling apart. The culture is littered with constant gaslighting and C-Suite will never give a second thought to you as a person. I'll never be able to repay them for the experience, knowledge, and relationships that I gained around addiction and recovery, but that's really the only benefit of working with this company.

You have to pass meds (including narcs) and flush PICC lines even if you’re untrained, you get 3 days PTO to last you all year, and the doctors prescribe meds to clients that are unnecessary just so they can charge their insurance more money. Its basically a glorified suboxone clinic. The clients are like cattle to the upper management, just cycled in and out and back in again for another 9 grand. Our furnishings are cheap and the bosses only care about how “pretty” things look from an outside perspective. If you’re in recovery and looking for a job, this is an okay temporary gig (especially if you have a criminal record) but it’s not a healthy environment. You’d be better off working in a factory.

I have been with Stepworks Recovery for approximately 9 mos and I believe I have found my career forever home.  I work with THE BEST group of individuals, all very caring and honest!  We have several locations, each unique with it's structure, location, and staff.  Our mission is to create an environment where we would want to send our own family and I firmly believe that holds true with our staff as well.  We are a family and work together as a team--or as a "tribe" as we sometimes call it.  Stepworks has been the first job I've ever had in my 40+ years that I didn't dread going to every day.  It's the first job I've felt appreciated in. I even referred my daughter's best friend who is now also a Stepworks employee. I truly enjoy working for a company who cares not only about their clients, but about their staff.
