TRUNO Retail Technology Solutions

I work night shift in the main Truno office.  Truno serves grocery stores nationwide.  Overall Truno supplies hardware and software for grocery stores to ring up transactions, process and track sales, and manage inventory.  As a support tech I have never set foot in our customers' stores (support techs don't do installs or hardware maintenance) but I speak with them on the phone frequently, helping them troubleshoot reporting software or credit card machines and cash registers.   This job has a big learning curve as nearly everything we deal with is proprietary, but once you get the hang of it it isn't overly difficult or trying.  You definitely stay busy, though.  I usually have at least a few hours of overtime on each check.

The company culture is generally nice.  Most everyone is friendly and helpful.  Breakfast is provided free on Fridays, though those of us on night shift miss out on that because they serve it a couple of hours after our shift ends.  I know that sometimes the day shift also gets lunch or has pot lucks, but night shift of course misses out on these things as well.

I've had only good experiences with management so far, but others' mileage may vary depending on their department/team.

Truno does have paid time off, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, and 401k.

As far as jobs go this place is better than working food service or retail, and far better than call center type jobs.  Yes, it is still customer service but the customers you're dealing with are also in the customer service business and tend to be a lot nicer for it.  Plus you get to work in depth with computers which, if you're into that kind of thing, can be a lot of fun.

Note: the majority of the reviews for Truno on here are from field techs, which is not the same thing as a support tech.  The info I've provided here about my experience with this company is solely from a support tech perspective.

If you are a hard worker aimed at getting a job done, and done right this is not the job for you. They are slaves to their Service License Agreements. Which means for you if you start as an L1 is that you are cannon fodder for saying to the customer "We contacted you, we can't fix your issue, but sales has leverage when they contact you for renewal". You mean nothing to this company, at least other companies are up front about this fact, not Truno. They will lie to your face about what Level 1 Techs and Field Techs  are for and why you are there. As you walk back to your cubicle you will see in the offices why you are there, to provide faux leverage for sales and retention. I went to training with a Tech who couldn't understand how to boot to a backup software. This is not a technology company, they are attempting to grow by providing tiers of service that do not meet the high price that said service is supposed to garner. This company will bring you down, and they do not care. They use broken products and management is the worst that I personally have ever experienced.

Truno was a great place to get some entry level Point of sale IT experiences.  My only issue working here was being a remote tech, you do not get as many opportunities for advancement, especially in areas where they have trouble hiring IT guys.  A typical day was waking up typically before 8 to calls from dispatch. Heading to a storage unit to pickup parts and drop of stuff to ship out or meet someone from the corporate office to bring back to Lubbock. And then for me, it was driving,  ALOT... All over west TX from Pecos to Wink, to Odessa, to Midland, to San Angelo and back to Midland often for things as simple as monitors being unplugged. Display port/HDMI cables coming loose. Worst thing you may have to do is swap out a Point of sale system entirely an reconfigure it by imaging from the Point of sale right next to it and changing name back after imaging. 

I was shocked my first day when I heard everyone talking trash about everyone else. Everyone seems really cool at first, other than the trash talking, and it appears to be too good to be true. It is. The reps are over worked and under paid. There is no work life balance. You're added to a group text message for your team that never stops. You're called to come in on your days off. You're told that you need to work on your days off because they're short staffed. The managers are bullies. They pick their favorites and make it very well known. You're given projects with little to no direction, no help, then written up when you're not doing it correctly. They also act like they did you a favor by dropping this stressful project in your lap, that you didn't want, or ask for. 

Was a great place at the start. Management isn't very good. The training that they have is lackluster and useless. Customers are rude a lot of the times. Was beginning to get burnt out pretty fast. Same issues pretty much everyday will get to you. Managers constantly micromanage you. Hours aren't that great. Working on the weekend is horrible. The systems they use is intuitive and hard to use at first. Not a lot of actual tech support, more of sales issues and figuring out why. Will list a base pay on the position, but some of the employees don't earn that much. Very close to a call center, calls and times are monitored. Management seems to care to much about "SLAs" and will get on to you every chance they get about your times listed in the call vs what you were doing in your software that you use to remote into the stores, which they can and do monitor.

You are a technician, installer, driver and janitor for the price of one. 
You will have weekends to be on call. And when you do it doesn't matter what time. The pay was not as worth it when you get the on call. 
You would have to clean out registers at times as many as 15 lanes by yourself. 
No official training ever given you have to figure things out by yourself. When you succeeded doing that no appreciation is shown. But when you couldn't figure out the things that anyone couldn't figure out too then they basically put you down by telling you're dumb. Favoritism is insane in this company. Expect to be treated like garbage if you don't know anyone on the inside. 

My workday started out with reviewing my emails and calls for service. Colleagues are wonderful people to work with. The senior management they are not people friendly. This is a very hostile work environment from management to staff. Multiple people have left because of management hostility. Management will blame you from things that are out of your control. You better hope nothing goes wrong. Mangement does not listen to anyone. They use technicians as scapegoats.  The hardest part of the job is they company has no inventory control. They will blame the technician not themselves for mistakes made by delivery of parts or their own mistakes. The most enjoyable part about this position is that if you are a people person and love helping people this is the type of job for you. I encourage you to look for a better company.

I waited 3 years for a raise and finally after asking every 6 months, I got a $0.33 raise. There is no room for advancement unless you're related to the higher ups. and you will work about 50-60 hours a week regularly. Also expect to always be on call since you're expected to drop everything after hours and you'll rotate on call weeks with maybe one other person meaning you'll only get every other weekend off.  I got paid the same wages as my spouse who works as a gas station clerk. Also you're expected to clean every piece of equipment at grocery stores on a regular basis. It takes tons of time and it is aleaysba disgusting mess. Definitely not worth the pay it time it takes from you since you'll always be working.  0/5 stars if it were possible.

I came back after two and a half years at a company where its culture was going south, and people becoming totally cut throat towards one another.  Truno has made some serious changes since I was here in 2015, and all for the better.  The team is solid, manager totally has your back (I can attest to this with a situation I had not too long ago).  Granted there can be more improvements but the fact is they are making them.  Being in Lubbock for new hire orientation I felt culture shock, coming from one company where you were starting to be treated like a number, to being part of a family, which honestly threw me.  Each day is different, some days you are in the office doing work, and some days you are running calls.  No complaints overall, an the important thing here is work life balance.

Overall, this is one of the healthier jobs I have held. Pay is solid, you start accruing PTO and sick leave on your first paycheck, and you can work remote depending on your position. However, your experience can be different based on who your manager is and what boundaries you are willing to set for yourself. If you have a mgr who works too much and you aren't willing to say no, then you might end up like them. Personal responsibility matters in a job environment, you can't blame everything on "the man." The majority of management really wants what's best for the customer, company, AND employees. 2 improvements would be affordable healthcare (too expensive to add a spouse or kids) and training mgrs on how to train/coach/mentor their direct reports.
