The Black Sheep

Check bosses/ company emails, reply, book parties and events. Also helped manage charity fundraisers between my boss and the charity organization. Set up the dining area and prepped iced tea and coffee for the lunch shift. Organized menus and answered phone calls through out the day. Served a total of 11 tables by myself under high pressure situations all while providing the best customer service. Built a level of comfort between myself and customers that made many loyal to come back to be served my me. Provided a thorough turnover for the next server coming in before my shift was finished. Occasionally bar tended private parties. I learned how to bar tend, multitask, maintain composure under high stress situations, take precise orders from customers and work well with my coworkers. Management was very fair, understanding and laid-back; however, provided no room for advancement in the company. Coworkers were nice and helpful. The hardest part of the job was managing all 11 tables during a very busy day without a food runner or busboy to lend a hand. The most enjoyable part of the job was the handling the customers. They were all so nice and easy going. Also the hours were preferred and the pay was very good.

bad apples running the show at tbs. if I could go back in time I wouldnt have worked there, especially not FOH. they've had their entire team of sushi chefs and bus boys quit at once and half their hosts, bar tenders, and managers gone within a month. complete cluster and the management has started jumping ship as well! don't expect to be promoted anytime either, they are so short staffed you will never leave the position you were hired for. I've only seen two promotions in over the year I worked there and they were promised to people and then given away on two separate occasions. I worked over 30 hours each week and even when asked to not work more than 20/25 was still scheduled way over. expect to work every day (doubles as well) you say you are available as they are still short staffed! absolutely no flexibility regarding scheduling or availability! AVOID! other restaurant jobs nearby pay the same or more and treat their employees much better! 

This is a great job if you’re looking for some side hustle money. 

Pros: 
- Great management team
- Easily achievable tasks just have to be consistent with photos and updating the progress of the events 
- Management is extremely helpful and can make moves to get things running smoothly again
- A lot of events are outside and will having you moving, great exercise
- Paid per event so the more events you can handle and do superb on, the more opportunity for you to gain more money. 
Cons: 
- It is market dependent job so it’s good for side money but if you’re looking for something that will pay rent and bills, this would be on the low end. For what you do, you are compensated fairly but if the properties didn’t want to advertise for weeks has on their agreement contract, then you can basically have no work for a week to a month during the holidays. 

Promoting their great foods was not difficult! Taking a laid back operation and bringing it up to date with computer inventory, customer tracking, party planning and so on...

Dealing with College Alumni's from 4 major colleges; students and parents related; planning events from simple get togethers to total graduation ceremonies.

Creating a presence outside of the stores into the dorms, colleges and surrounding clientele.

- Typical Day: Self managing appointments with clients
- Learned: time management, client/ company relations, how to negotiate contracts, really amazing learning experience
- Managements: amazing, encouraging, good mentor-ship, good communication, made me love selling for them
- Culture: great, relaxed, everyone was cool 
- Hardest: time management, making money 
- Enjoyable: everything else, the staff, my hours, the independence

TBS is a really inviting and unique workplace that makes you happy just to be involved! It doesn’t feel like work, you get involved in things that actually interest you (which is something I can’t say about most jobs). For this job, all I had to do was take pictures for a client and submit them in a timely manner and I got paid a flat rate and then a compensation rate for everyone who used my promo code. Overall, a great time!

Working at The Black Sheep as a Marketing Manager was a fun job to have during college that allowed me to explore campus, meet people, and build my experience. I really enjoyed taking pictures of students with merchandise for the clients. Management was always helpful with fast responses. Would definitely recommend!

I was a Guerilla Marketing Member who worked in collaboration with another individual promoting local business to students through marketing tactics. I was a relaxed atmosphere to work in as it was work at your own pace. However, it was difficult to get into some of the locations on campus since it required specific access which we did not have permission to.

My first job on campus that immediately assumed a large amount of responsibility onto me. I was in charge of leadership of a whole marketing team for the entire company at Rutgers and I was responsible for putting together a team that would work under me. It was difficult but rewarding.

The Black Sheep is a cool publication to join if you've just started a career as a writer. At times I felt like the guidelines could be a bit strict, but once you've gotten accustomed to the rules it's easy to get into the writing style. Overall, most colleges have a branch and they're worth seeking out.
