The Community Preservation Corporation

Very rewarding company to work for due to corporate mission. Management can be lacking at times, but staff and culture is great overall. There is no expectation of overtime and the company is very generous in time off and flexibility. The only major drawbacks are lack of upward mobility due to the small size of the company, the salaries not being competitive, and a somewhat disorganized management structure at the departmental level.

The company was headquartered in New York City.  Large office and a more corporate environment.  Enjoyed the monthly meetings at Corporate.  I was in a small satellite office and I quickly learned that there was no career or financial growth.  Further I was doing the job of the person whom I replaced after 13 years and was promoted. I was requested to do this work. I enjoyed my direct colleagues.  The job also became physically demanding.  It was a very good experience and I learned alot.

The Community Preservation Corporation is a great learning arena. On a daily basis you are faced with new hurdles and have the tools to overcome the hurdles. Tools are work experience of other colleagues and industry connections. The hardest part of the job was the coordination of several city, state and federal agencies and meeting their requirements. The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting with community on preservation projects.

I assisted the VP and Assistant VP of Communications with ad hoc projects as well as the normal day to day administrative tasks.  I learned a lot about housing and development.  My co-workers were great to work with.  The hardest part of the job was having to lift boxes and carry materials to ribbon cuttings and ground breakings.  The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting the brokers and builders.

All Jobs were very easy, from loan processing to analyst

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There was no stress, job was a joke

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very “clicky”.  If you weren’t in a “click” no one spoke to you socially

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Wasting time until 5pm when everyone ran for the door

Working to the Community Preservation Corporation I would recommend only if you are looking for a stepping stone to another opportunity. This is not the place to become complacent and build a future. My immediate manager was great, however the overall culture was not for me.

Productive, exciting workplace that rewards their employees for hard work and dedication. While we do strive to meet our closing goals and stringent deadlines, we also pride in team development, growth and offer supportive management

Great company with a great mission to re-development communities and provide affordable housing.  They have a strong commitment to other community groups.  Supports private and government organizations that support community development.

My main responsibility was answering the phone and greeting people, I also sorted and deliver the mail, Inputting bills and verifying bills from fedex, DHL, and car service into the computer.

You’re expected to know your  job with absolutely no training or introduction from day one. Unrealistic expectations, long hours and weekends and terrible management. 
The mission of the company seems to have gotten lost.
