Working at the firm gave me the opportunity to help people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, but the work environment made it challenging to remain there long-term. One of the biggest concerns was the lack of support for employees. Management rarely checked in on staff or seemed interested in employee well-being, creating an environment where meeting production goals appeared to take priority over the people doing the work. They really had a way to take the "human" out of humanitarian immigration cases.

A significant amount of client communication was handled by a virtual team located outside the United States. While remote support can be effective, I frequently observed communication issues that affected both employees and clients. In my experience, consultations often placed a strong emphasis on creating urgency around a client's immigration situation, which sometimes left me uncomfortable because many clients were already fearful and vulnerable.

Another concern was attorney accessibility. It was often difficult to obtain guidance because the attorney was rarely in the office, leaving staff to answer difficult questions without consistent legal support. I also felt that some consultations did not adequately consider a client's financial situation before presenting legal services that could total around $10,000. Rather than first building trust and understanding the client's circumstances, there seemed to be significant pressure to retain clients.

This company had the potential to lead a whole industry, but they failed. I was drawn to this company for their mission and stance on helping immigrants adjust their status, but through my time at Lisinski I realized they ultimately only cared about making money. The rapid company growth has led to organizational inefficiency, high employee turnover, and incompetent individuals at management or senior-level positions who are completely unqualified, unprofessional, and too immature to hold that level of position. A red-flag was that clients have their consultation with salespeople (not attorneys) and management puts so much pressure on intake specialists to sell, sell, sell even though Houston has a huge market with firms just like this one. We are expected to tell clients that we are constantly being trained by the attorneys, but in reality the trainings are just a digital folder with pre-recorded meetings that we had already watched during our initial trainings — which are completely unfruitful since immigration law is constantly changing. The whole company preaches ethics but then some individuals who should lead by example don’t follow any code of ethics. Oh and lastly there’s always  a ton of drama, you will feel like you’re in a really bad reality tv show. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The 401K match is 6%, which is the pre-tax deferral rate.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is either nothing to do or way too much to do. The team has shifted to where we are receiving help from other members who aren’t officially on our team, who often are given most of the team’s work to complete. Yet, they aren’t fully on the team yet. There is also the concern of collaborating virtually with team members and leaders regarding physical paper submissions. This sometimes makes it hard to complete the work, especially due to language barriers and day-to-day delivery deadlines that come up quickly but leaders aren’t available as they go on their lunches during the late afternoon. Then when I ask a question to someone in office, I’m told to ask the unavailable virtual members instead of being able to get assistance right away. It seems like people are more concerned with the chain of command than assisting clients with ensuring their documents are correct. There is a lack of cohesiveness, support, and clear communication. And you are expected to just figure things out for yourself.

There is a lack of communication and transparency from higher ups. It is also bureaucratic.

My experience with Lisinski Immigration Law Firm has been exceptionally positive. From the very beginning, the firm demonstrated a high level of professionalism and seriousness during the interview process, ensuring a comprehensive and structured approach. Since becoming part of the team, I have been provided with a wealth of valuable resources and learning tools that have significantly aided my transition into the role of intake specialist. The firm has established a strong support system through both online and on-site mentors, all of whom have been instrumental in my professional growth.

All in all, a toxic workplace and aggressive environment characterized by extremely high standards, a lack of empathy, and micromanagement. Extremely strict with timesheets: only a 30 minute lunch and NO overtime allowed. The workload is not manageable at all and could easily be the work of 2-3 people, and any attempts to voice your stress are disregarded. No empathy or concern for mental health - simply told to keep work and personal life separate. However, that was difficult, as there was very little work-life balance due to the intense stress. Staff that are not management are underpaid. Expectations are generally unclear for employees. Lots of overly bureaucratic policies and work was based on a task system. 

The job description and the job they actually wanted me to do were two completely different things, which should have been my first red flag. The communication within this firm is embarrassingly terrible, and it starts from the top. They keep hiring managers but not including people who have to work with them in the decision so on top of hiring managers that don't take accountability, there's now more people for any communication to go through to the point where I am not included on decisions, meetings, or emails with information that I need to do my job. For all the talk about the mission and how they are changing people's lives, as an employee, it feels like they care more about selling cases than actually getting results for their clients or supporting their staff. 

I was excited to join a company with a meaningful mission and felt the work that we were doing was important. I met and worked with diverse people often and appreciated the effort some of the remote team members put into making our team inclusive and collaborative. 
Unfortunately it didn't take long to see that the operations were misaligned. With such rapid growth, careless decisions were often made and resources were not appropriately managed and it felt as if nobody could speak up to question or pause on some of the actions that were happening. It was uncomfortable to know my direct leadership also felt limited by what they had control over. 

The only positive parts of this job were the clients and the coworkers. 
Management and the overall mission of the company was completely unethical. It felt like you were told to lie to people in order to make commission out of them. If you did not hit your numbers you were always put in “coaching”. They expect you to harass the clients into taking a case at this firm. 
You don’t get knowledge behind the scenes. Everyone is remote and there’s 4 attorneys total. Management is joke. They have never been leaders and are focused on selling instead of helping people. They will get you fired the minute you speak up, creating a hostile work environment for the remaining employees.

Nothing  was good about working at Lisinski Law. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unorganized, favoritism, unprofessional, money and numbers are the main focus and clients are the last, unsanitary unhealthy office and bathroom conditions.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and unprofessional from the time you get there until the time you leave.

I was fortunate to join during the first year of the firm's startup, and I've been able to witness firsthand the immense growth of staffing and revenue of the business. The amount of staff was tripled to accommodate the amount of incoming clients; there were several promotions given throughout the different teams, and benefits packages were also upgraded for the firm. 

This has been one of my favorite roles, in terms of, the amount of responsibility I have been allowed within my department to foster the best team environment while maintaining profitability and client satisfaction.
