Unfortunately the Menninger of today is not the Menninger of Topeka, KS. They burn through social workers faster than switching TV channels, so you will always see them advertising for positions. (Most SW's in the community who have worked there can't be lured back.)

Unfortunately social work leadership is too invested in not ruffling the feathers of the higher ups to really make any meaningful change. The turnover rate is proof - go along, get along.

While lip service is given to supporting professional growth, in truth social workers do the bulk of the clinical work, psychologists and MD's do the "intellectual" work. 

With that said, its one of the few places that takes psychodynamic theory seriously. So good place to work for a SHORT time for learning and then move on. That's what they expect from their management model anyway, because they are happy to burn you out and let you go. This is not a place that values cultivating social work talent and integrating it as part of the organization.

This is an easy job. Assess patients, chart, keep them safe. The problem is it’s so easy that people have a lot of time to gossip. It’s also so easy that there is no way for management to objectively measure you performance therefore there are no merit raises. Your stress isn’t going to come from patients, it’s going to be from dealing with coworkers due to them being incompetent or being messy. This company does not value loyalty. It doesn’t matter how well you do your job or how long you’ve worked for them without complaining. They value those who are kiss-a** and boot-lickers. All you have to do is be friends with the right people and flatter them with fake compliments and you’ll have many privileges here. Finally, the pay is below average yet this company puts money first. The patients are becoming more acute overtime and this place is losing its ranking because of that and because of the high turnover rate mostly due to low pay.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The mission and services provided to the community by The Menninger Clinic.  My coworker were alos great and wonderful to work with.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The organization was in a period of transition.  The impact of COVID,  along with the need to realign services to reach a broader adult population for mental health and add/enhance services for children  had a financial impact on the organization leading to layoffs shortly after being hired.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture were fine. The stress of change on executive leadership and decision did haves negative impact on the work environment at time. Staff was still positive and dedicated to patient services and care at a high level.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It is one of the best places to recieve mental health treatment and best place to work. All the employees are like family to each other. Supervisors are strong advocate for their staff. Moreover, we have the best facility in looks, comfort, and gives us a sense of belonging. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
At times we may a serious patient like psychotic or suicidal or substance cravings.....but we support each other in crisis. The interdisciplinary team supports each other.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Excellent! The culture is everyone is treated equally. Facility is awesome.

The culture at Menninger is so positive,caring,and warm.The manager truly cares about her team’s career and where we want to go. Teamwork is practiced at every level. Working with young adults has been such an amazing learning experience. I have understood the value of receiving unconditional love from my patients is way more than a pay check.I am not saying money is not important but money is also not everything. It is much more awesome to have satisfaction, peace, respect, and love at work.
I feel that this is my another family and I have always felt blessed here!!!!.

The salary is very good , the days off

Working with the other employees who been working for the company for over 20 years 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not good at all, always complaining about something and looking for a reason to terminate employees 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Being micro managed and watched by managers who are not in you department

Very sad to say that the high level of patient care has suffered significantly under current administration. Many unorganized changes do not uphold the model of prioritizing integrity and respect of patients and staff who care for them. Multi-disciplinary model of care and milieu as therapeutic form of treatment have been compromised signifcantly.

Staff nurse on psychiatric young adult unit in the 				roles of floor nurse, medication nurse and relief charge nurse.  It was a wonderful place to work and we spent time out in the day area with the patients talking to them and getting to know them.  I learned so much there because the average stay is 4-6 weeks and you can see a real change in their life begin.  The most enjoyable part of the job were the patients and staff.  The hardest part was when I had to leave because I moved.

needs more advancement opportunities and higher pay, single parents cant expect to stay long with low pay.

better communication and ways to make it easier on the staff in the kitchen and hard on the staff stealing from the kitchen.

you worry to much about expense and don't realize it makes it harder for the kitchen staff to do there job right with out getting yelled at, undermined and treated wrong over .50 cents. spending more on products and less on food will help morale.

This  respected mental health institution is not what it seems from the outside. The work environment is cut throat and competitive to the point where your supervisors will not be supportive at all.  SW are not valued or respected and the culture places value on doctors, nurses and psychologist over anyone else.
Don't go  work here unless you are desperate and have a very thick skin,
