This organization seems great at first, but then you come to find out they expanded too much and therefore have a lack of funds, and give RMs way too many districts to handle or hold RMs accountable for poor management. Christmas bonuses were taken away, no room for overtime, and wellness benefits and college reimbursement rules decreased. Not to mention, the new health insurance plan is a joke, with many things not being covered. RMs play favorites and either try to take over your operation and become super friendly with your staff and district admin staff to get them to turn on you, make you do extra reports that are not mandated, and fail to train their new hires properly (stating it takes up to 2 years to learn the job). Rather than listen to the concerns of the DFNs, they tend to turn the tables on you and blame you instead of listening to the majority of the staff and the DFN's concerns. RM's drop out of sight, and expect you to complete 6 week menu cost projects without training the DFNs on how to complete them. Regardless of hitting above-budgeted ala carts and meal counts, the RMs continue to demand more and more, causing unnecessary stress on DFNs and staff leaving them all to feel unappreciated. Rather than RMs working with their DFNs, they place blame on them if there is one upset staff member, and would rather have that DFN take the fall rather than fix the problem. They say one thing to their DFNs, and then do the opposite. While on weekly one-on-ones, they will roll their eyes numerous times during the virtual team calls, yell at the DFNs in front of the staff, and take numerous phone calls during the DFN's one-on-ones making the meetings inadequate and a waste of time. Therefore, respect is lost. They do not listen to the majority of staff when they go to the RM's regarding the real issues. Failure to properly train staff, uphold staff responsible for not completing tasks or for treating other staff poorly, and failure to have their DFNs backs create a toxic environment. This entices staff to go above the DFNs leadership to create exaggerated lies and problems to get their way without ever communicating any concerns to their direct leader.  DFNs bond across regions and districts by bad-mouthing the organization and RMs to just get by. 

Nutrition's management team is very supportive. Anytime I have asked for help they are more than willing to give me all the resources I need to succeed. Some of my coworkers complain about not receiving help but they never actually ask so the management team has no idea they need help. You have to ask for what you need and they will always help you. I worked in the restaurant industry for years and this job is wonderful because I don't have to work weekends and it's daylight hours. For anyone who has a family this is huge. I no longer miss events on the weekends and I get to see my family. This is a job where you have a real opportunity to make a positive impact. You get to feed kids and for some of them this is the only food they are receiving. The hardest part about this job is staying organized and dealing with last minute struggles. You may have a catering come up last minute or very specific dietary student restrictions but overall this is an easy job if you stay organized and build great relationships with your staff and the school district. 

I work for TNG. The work is not difficult. The workload is a lot. They pay me well, and listen to my concerns. However, communication is key to success and it’s varying from location to location. I am passionate about what I do and the service provided to the children in our district. Sometimes, can feel overwhelming and unrewarding. I actually have two degrees, but I choose to do this line of work everyday because the job within itself is very rewarding. I can speak with members from corporate and ask questions and can get a response to build a better understanding. Going to direct management is more difficult. If they don’t have the answers, they say they will find out. They forget, & now you’re reaching out to be told to do it a certain way. While another school in the district is operating under completely different rules/regulations. Uniformity was once getting better, but it’s as if things have once again taken a side step. Not a difficult company to work with as long as you maintain compliance and compose yourself in manner that is appropriate. If you have a good work ethic, respect, and maintain a healthy relationship with the clients and corporate you will do well. But this work, is not for everyone. 

The Nutrition Group is anything but organized and structured. Many of the employees through TNG are part time, with no benefits, small wage about 13.00 an hour, and most of all constantly transfered to different cafeterias within that school district. The first week might feel heartwarming, but after three weeks to a month, they treat you badly. Constantly being verbally abused for coming in too early, expected to be as quick and multitask efficient as them, and if you have one difference of an opinion? They transfer or terminate you. 

Small minor mistakes as part of the learning experience, they will publicly humiliate and embarrass you in front of students, and have no regard for learning disabilities or reasonable accomodations.  Many managers will go so far as to berate students at schools, and even do the same to students as well. Mostly at the Elementary School level to either grab a specific food, or irritate students for not remembering their numbers. Again this is the managers and sometimes directors as well. 



The company only cares about profit, there is definitely no benefits. The food we feed these kids looks like something I would feed my dogs. You are only given enough time after Serving lunch to finish your work task and get in trouble when the work is not done because they don’t allow overtime, even if it is and extra 15-20 mins especially if they are short on staff or early dismissals They don’t allow for growth in the company. People are always quitting And then they can never find replacements then-that is added work load for the other workers it is very stressful and they do not care that they work you like slaves.  The amount of choices they give the k-4 grade is ridiculous, 5 choices is to much, there is never given enough time to prepare for lunches with all the added extra food. The district supervisor is always over worked and stressed-which does not make for a fun work place, and they can never answer your questions, because then you get an I don't know answer. 

This company is not upfront about the location in which you will be working.
The training program was just implemented not long ago, whereas the current Directors shared how they were thrown into positions with barely to no training and was expected to perform at high standards.  
Although there is now a training program, they still will only train you until it's dire that they put you in a school that is not doing well, without your knowledge that your training will now be "On the job" training. It was proven that the training is dire to be successful. They claim they have a support system for you to rely on, however that means being talked down to, being talked over and they will find reasons to make you feel insignificant. 
They need better upper management and a successful training program where they let you complete it without throwing you in the field prematurely.
 It was a wasted 4 weeks of my life.
** Highly do not recommend working for this company. **

The workday began with making sure that all food deliveries went out on time. Then it was making sure everyone had what they needed to do their job for the day. After that it was into the office to do orders, data entry, answearing phones, ect. At about 10 am numbers for meals started coming in and it was time to get everyone in the commissary set up for the next day. I learned how to multitask and organize in an extremely efficient manner. I had 25 employees under me and I handled all of their needs and issues as well as insurance information, HR needs and payroll. I also had 46 senior centers that I addressed with any issues or concerns. Most of the mamangement was located in the Pittsbugh area. My co-workers were hard workers and did a wonderful job. The hardest part of this job was keeping everything organized .  The best part of this job was knowing that I was helping the elderly get a hot meal on a daily basis.

This is not all locations as I am sure some are great but at the ford city location they have some  people working there that dislike their lives so much they would prefer you to fail it's terrible . I have seen name calling, people talking about others, and treating new employees like they are less. It's a shame as I loved every job I did there but the enviroment makes you feel horrible . I have seen people make food to a poorer standard because it was for inmates and comment on it like its a joke. I have seen schedules go up and be changed mid week for the next day and the employees are just supposed to drop everything and show up for a completely differnt shift without even being notified. I love the things this company does they provide a great service but they need to work on weeding out people that treat others in a terrible manner  no matter how long they are there. 

Low pay for industry standards.
No breaks
No appreciation from management.
Director is very belittling to kitchen staff.
No room for advancement.
Upper management will not respond for days even if you needed an answer yesterday.
Don't dare think out of the box or express new ideas.
Upper management is completely degrading when it comes to comsumer needs...delt with the ederly.
Over worked and always short staffed. 
You will never be rewarded for wearing multiple hats with this company.
They will use you up and cast you aside. They will fill a position with any warm body they can find.

Worked with the best group of people in the kithen. My co workers are wonderful!! I would not have stayed this long if it wasn't for their smiling faces!

Hours are set hours interact with kids and good environment get put with a set job learned some things 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Team work was a lack, and proper training from,The company on their product being prepared was not properly shown or handled in the proper way so they end up losing people that want to stay or address matters or point out things that is a neglected or in a wrong.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Station and set in as job duties but as NUTRITION GROUP should be more as a "TEAM" work" ethnic  as a company not push someone out or a away or under the bus
