Typical Day: Morning meetings, making cold calls, sending emails, putting out fires with your book of business, 1:1 meetings with your supervisor, Weekly pod meetings to go over your scorecards and to give you a chance to bring up any issues from the previous week, end of the day meetings to discuss your accomplishments for the day.

What I learned: nothing I didn't already know about recruiting. 

Management: Pretty close to the belt. Constant meetings with management. They are about their money so anything that threatens that you pretty much will be monitored like a child. 

Workplace Culture: Very young culture, a lot of child's play daily. The environment is that of a Fraternity/Sorority feel. The company is male-centric and some sprinkles of women. The culture is not really inclusive to those who do not have a "Bro" mentality. And there is alcohol allowed in the workplace. Some people may feel okay with it, however, it can be dangerous, to say the least. This company, unfortunately, I have to say is not very diverse friendly. Some music that is played during the day can be offensive to specific types of people. Specific individuals in the company get special privileges not because they earned them but because of who they are and who they are best friends with.

The hardest part of the job: Dealing with constant meetings and management not seeming as if they trust you to do your job. If you fail at one thing, they are constantly babysitting you to make sure that you are not messing with their money. Communication is off sometimes depending on who your supervisor is. The environment is pretty cliquish and you have to be mindful of what you say to certain people. Certain people in the company cause bad vibes which can make the recruiters and other employees alike uncomfortable and drained. This company claims that there is work/life balance but that is not entirely true. Most people in the company do not have immediate family obligations so if you have a family, I will pretty much not bother working for this company. Otherwise, depending on who your boss is, you might be able to work something out with them in the meantime. 

The most enjoyable part of the job: The co-workers. There are a lot of people, especially your peers who are willing to help you no matter what. from one location to the next. I can set up a meeting on anybody's calendar and they will accept and will not hesitate in helping you with whatever you need to actually do your job. They hold you accountable for everything which I do feel is a major plus.

To summarize, if you have a "Bro mentality and would thrive in a male-centric environment, you will thrive and feel more welcomed. Otherwise, if you are the total opposite, you can pretty much feel like an outcast. This company claim that they want you to "break the system" but overall, they just want you to do what they say no questions asked. Plenty of times I have been called out because of the specific way I like to recruit. It took me a minute to put my foot down and make people realize the uniqueness of my approach to recruiting. And eventually, they backed off. HR with this company is a complete joke within itself. If something is said about you to HR, they will pretty much believe it and not come to you and allow you to defend yourself, which can lead to confusion, write-ups, and possible terminations all because of hearing it from someone else, especially management, so be very careful. Document everything when you are dealing with attendance, asking for PTO, leaving early, or anything else that pertains to you. Some of the people who have management and supervisor roles only have the position because of their tenure with the company, their close relationship with specific people, or should I dare say it, because of who they are and not because they will be good at managing a team. If you have issues with your manager, they will not allow you to request another manager so you are pretty much stuck with that person. And if you are considered an outsider, be very careful expressing your grievances about a favorite. It can cost you your job!

Each recruiter I've had with Totalmed began our working relationship as very ambitious and hardworking. Each one made me feel like they really wanted to get me a contract in the location I wanted to go and with the pay I desired. After some time, each one began to slack off. The first one just completely abandoned me, I felt. After that, I requested a new recruiter. My current recruiter has not been very positive or ambitious in locating a job lately. The company is sending recruiters on these "training trips" that are essentially a paid vacation. Several of the recruiters went to Costa Rica for a "work trip", but were allowed to bring family and posted several pictures of leisure activities and alcohol. I'm not sure what kind of work would be necessary in Costa Rica for a travel nursing agency that works with hospitals and nurses in the United States only. Then, many took a "training" trip to California. My recruiter is just posting photos of touristy things all over California. The company puts way too much money into these "work trips" and does not pay nurses well enough. I accidentally found out my bill rate from the hospital I currently work at, and based on that number and what I actually make, Totalmed is taking about 32% of the cut, when I was promised they would only take 20%. So my hard work is sending recruiters on vacations while I can't even get my recruiter to submit me to jobs.
Also, health insurance premiums are incredibly expensive and Totalmed cuts your pay package down by about $80 a week if you take insurance, PLUS you have to pay the ridiculous premiums. A nurse + spouse comes out to about $850 per month for the cheaper health, vision, and dental plans. The retirement benefits are actually pretty good. Totalmed matches by 5%, but it is only of your hourly and not of the whole pay package, which I think is pretty standard in travel nursing. No PTO, as with most travel contracts. You do, however, accrue sick time in CA, but it is only your hourly rate and not the full pay package, so if you actually called in sick while working in CA you would get significantly less than you normally make and you still may be liable for the "missed shift pay adjustment", which would totally cancel out the sick pay. That sick time can only be accrued and used while on a contract in CA. You won't accrue it for any other state and you won't be able to use it if you accrued it in CA then called in sick while on contract in another state.

It has been a privilege working with Totalmed for the past year. I am truly blessed to have been given this opportunity, mentored by the people who make this organization great. I would like to personally extend my deepest gratitude to leadership and my tight knit team for pushing me to become a rockstar Recruiter and believing in me when, for a time, I didn’t believe in myself. I cannot say enough good things about this company. Young and progressive, they believe in test driving unorthodox yet effective strategies for talent acquisition. They utilize the best software available to ensure their recruiters, clients, and talent are able to attain and complete assignments seamlessly. They will accommodate, with deliberation, to flex to individual needs to provide an optimal working environment. Best of all, they build up and empower their staff to grow as recruiters and find their hidden strengths. As a headstrong and sometimes (always) stubborn 30 something with recruiting experience, I had initial apprehension. It is true that a majority of this company are young, tech savvy, recent grads. I am none of those three things, relatively speaking. However, senior leadership kindly but firmly pulled those apprehensions out of me then listened and addressed my concerns. After I began to settle into my role, the seemingly endless energy and fast paced entrepreneurial spirit of my team began to influence and empower my performance as well. I truly feel this type of  candid, continuous improvement, grassroots yet corporate initiative is what sets TotalMed apart from their competition. I am proud to say I’ve received some of the most valuable training in my career from the time I spent here. They uphold their core values of Integrity, Fun, Respect, and Internally Driven. If you stay invested in your team and position, they will continue to stay invested in your growth and success.

They were quick to respond when I first applied last year, and gave me enough time to settle my affairs with my previous employer (two-month’s advance notice of start date).  I am absolutely loving this assignment — Easiest call Center/healthcare job I’ve ever had; low stress, no sales, no metrics, or high-quota, and very little pushback from callers/consumers. Calls usually take no more than 3 or 5 minutes, tops, unless you have to work with an interpreter, or are talking to a consumer who may  not be very tech savvy and will need your help walking them through certain processes, etc.  You will have to make outbound calls throughout most of the day when inbound calls are slow, but nearly 90% of the time nobody even picks up , so you’ll more than likely just be leaving voicemails by the end of the work week.

In short, I’ll be absolutely heartbroken when this project is up, as I don’t know if I’ll ever find another job of this caliber in this day and age of post-COVID, mandatory RTO where employers everywhere else seem to think that COVID never happened, and that keeping employees remote didn’t boost metrics, morale, and attendance (which it most certainly did all of those things!).  In the meantime, I’ll just keep enjoying this amazing work/life balance while it lasts. 

I worked as CNA for TotalMed in Appleton WI.  They have young grads in management positions with no experience in employee relations.  They have way to many payroll issues and if you need your paycheck to be correct and on time, do not work for this company.  My recruiter would often email my private email and ask me to verify 2 or 3 times my timecard or I would not get paid and would ask me to do this while I was on the hospital floor working and trying to take care of patients. Then when I couldnt respond to them immediately, they would say too bad you are not getting paid!  I didnt realize they would have me do my own payroll! They messed up my Paycheck (23 hours paid instead of the 50 hrs I had worked) over Thanksgiving and when I called to have it corrected they just said "nothing we can do until next week as payroll closed early because of the Holiday."  This was their error and payroll left Monday afternoon and did not return until the following week.  Then I found an email stating how employees needed to be respectful of payroll staff so they could spend time with their families. Never mind that they took off Tues and Wed before Thanksgiving even though payroll wasnt done and left me hanging for over a week. Not cool. They are all about themselves and could not care less about the ones actually doing the work.  Save yourself a huge headache and stay away !  My guess is the CEO has no idea how they are handling the company!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The contract terminated my contract because they did not want to approve FLMA and Totalmed wasn't helpful with me locating another job as it's or keeping me with a job like they portraited.  They way I was laid off was so sad last minute and doesn't show the model statement of the company.  One hour off a week for therapy and they couldn't negotiate my contract to finish the remaining 9 months on a 24 month contract. I gave so much of myself faithfully and I'm left with no other leads on employment. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No good communication system utilized. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was great if you love being left on your own and contant last minute updates which is expected with remote. Friendly people just lack of communication that is truthful or consistent lately. No one seems to be able to locate work for although they say they will be there and don't when needed on time. But we are human. So people are unprofessional not processing documents or pay properly following rules the company put in position. I don't like that.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was looking forward to helping people resolve issues and ending my day tired but satisfied that I made a difference in a positive way for the people I helped. Looking forward to doing it the next day.

a typical day being a CNA for an agency at a very large nursing home includes waiting to be assigned to a floor, once you are assigned a floor you get report from the aides working the shift before. You answer call lights that might be going off. Since I worked 6p-6a dinner was already served and mostly eaten so what is left is to give certain residents for that specific day a shower or bath and lay everyone down for bed, every 2 hours go into rooms and check on the residents. During the 12 hr shift you pass ice water, fresh linen and pick up the trash and dirty linen from the rooms. Before you leave for the day you have assigned residents to get up and get ready for breakfast, you give report to the on coming aides and check in with your charge nurse to make sure you are clear to leave. The hardest part of the job is trying to please people who are hard to please and dealing with death if it happens on your shift. Usually at the VA you work with one other aide and 2 nurses, They are your best friends for the night. 12 hours is hard to get through if you have no one to converse with. The most enjoyable part about working for an agency at the VA is being able to take care of people and getting to know them on a personal level, they become part of your family.

con't Pros... they honestly will support you & help with tuition to be a RN.

Con't Cons ...Scheduling errors, some housing was horrible/Nasty & they do not provide a 24/7 support team. They may contact you, but are not helpful, takes forever for them to get back at you & even then they really don't care about you. They only care about the facility's or you if they need a favor. They do not hire many responsible CNA's, so if you are good they wait to give you a assignment when another CNA doesn't show up. They advertise woman owned, but cater to men, especially the ones in the office. Like others have said there are so many other agencys that will be honest, up front & helpful to you.

You also must have someone help you read there requirements & anything you ask for to be put in writing. Watch everything not just the fine print or vague promises. If they wont put it in writing for you or clarify what you ask for ..................RUN..............RUN FAST! Other comments all over the net have one thing in common, They will lie to you or have you lie for them, that's the truth.

Overall it was a good experience until the market changed and company heads made bad decisions on how to keep their market share. Biggest deficiency was how they managed their lead data base and the rules governing how recruiters engage in marketing the health care staff within their prospecting files. Being remote there was no way to keep a prospecting file of nurses as they were constantly being sent text messages and calls from other recruiters at the same time. Pay was decent until the downturn in the market and then they dropped recruiters salary and commission percentage without dropping pay for HR and other groups. Top talent left the company. Overall it's a decent start for a new recruiter but don't plan on staying long and I would not recommend in office, only remote. Too much nepotism in the office. Lastly, you must be ok with micromanagement style company and tons of meaningless meetings. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
You only get one contract…then they don’t place you no where else after that. They will send you leads and never respond to you. When you reach out to them they still don’t respond, they don’t tell you that with certain companies they will not hire in the same year if you have worked for the competition. Yeah, it just wasn’t a great experience, this temp agencies are BS.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
 Most contracts are only 6mos.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
CalOptima was a okay, company…that’s who my contract was with. They’re very strict on no overtime unless they offer it, when being a contractor worker you will go through the interview process again against your other temp people and they only select 1. The benefits if you are a permanent employee are great. I only worked for the claim’s department can’t speak for the other departments. The manager over that department is a short guy with an ego but it was overall an okay in environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Taking calls from providers all day and rerouting members.
