In 2022, Udemy was the gold standard of tech. Open, transparent, collaborative, and fun. 2023 was the first of many layoffs and the beginning of the downward spiral. By 2024, we had a mostly new leadership team with a whole new focus and direction, which was unlike that of any previous leaders. The focus turned from people to money. We were told that there would be a layoff and were not told who was impacted for about 2 months. The stress and insecurity was very challenging and the culture eroded even more than it had in previous years. Udemy quickly went from the gold standard to the bottom of the barrel. 

Udemy is full of very intelligent engineers. If you want a place where you can solve interesting scaling challenges, this is it. There are a few growing pains with some ongoing migrations, but nothing that you wouldn't come across elsewhere. Everyone there is very willing to help which, along with the great onboarding docs, creates a welcoming environment for newcomers. Company culture is definitely a high point and they have a nice work life balance with flexible time off.

Complete freedom to choose your time- very flexible. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
To be on schedule- unless you complete the projects on time and get on the market, you will not be able start earning.

Very supportive- When you encounter a problem, there is always staff there to help you and move forward. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work from home.

The courses were easy to learn and understandable. With the online classes I have learned how to straighten my skills communicating with a verity o people. It helped me productively manage time. My environment is stable and soothing, easy for me to stay focus on my training. The hardest part about Udemy is getting documentation to support my online courses. I enjoy be able to lean at my own pace without any major distractions.

The thing about working here is that you never know what will happen. Management is very secretive with changes going on in the company. They are not transparent of whether certain positions and departments will stick around through the subscription model. They are constantly testing out new ways of getting sales rather than trying things that work.

Designed and built the infrastructure, software and products needed to scale the website from hundreds of thousands to millions of users. Implemented Course Previews, Community Feed, Notifications and Wishlists. Initiated and finalized infrastructure projects like Memcache integration, Redis-based feed backend.

This is an excellent workplace for anyone looking to level up their professional qualifications. The company offers a really wide range of training courses covering many different fields – from technical skills, through soft skills, to completely new domains. Very satisfied.

A great environment for doing your best work.  Compensation is weaker.  Growth is strong.  Udemy is one of the top ed tech companies.  So if you are are interested in ed tech I would put it at the top of your list.

Udemy is a great place to learn new skills. They have everything from programming to cooking. The courses are cost efficient and you can take as many as you can afford. I am looking forward to buying the AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification

I did my developer and architecture courses on AWS at Udemy, among other course types, such as SaaS. The tutors really offer practical coaching including quiz as needed. Writing code as needed, and this environment is very quiet and accomplishing
