* I help large quantities of students English and Spanish speaking, apply for financial aid and for Union County College. Create reports in Excel summarizing the volume of student traffic in the center. Answer general questions about the college. Proctor the Accuplacer placement test
*I learned that caring about others and working hard makes a hard job rewarding.
*I  Manage six student workers and their work schedules, delegate duties to each.
*I had one nice co-worker, who was moved to another dept. and my second co-worker would leave the office multiple times a day and then one day he decided to quit after 10 months.
*The hardest part of the job is trying to help every student that came into the center, with only the assistance of a few student workers.
*The most enjoyable part of the job is when a student you have helped comes back to thank you for all that you have done for them.

Not a good place go work! They do not pay enough to live on (other schools pay more), and there is a negative work environment. The turnover rate was very high. I knew every full-time student services employee & I can't think of a single person who was not either brand new or actively looking for another job somewhere else. Everyone knew it was not a good place to work and everybody was very open about actively trying to get a job somewhere else. 
The only reason to work there would be a recent graduate who needs to gain experience in the field in order to get a position at a school with decent wages and a positive work environment, because you won't find those things at 'Union College' (AKA Union County College).


A typical day at the job included helping customers with a variety of
requests from scheduling a delivery to helping them reserve products that were not currently available in the facility.

I have learned a wide range of job functions, that include Customer Service, and taking on the role as a Coordinator for the resolution of the varied customer complaints. 

I have also performed the various functions of warehousing, as well as pallet management, inventory management, and material handling equipment management.

It was a great pleasure and an honor to work with the Management Team

It was enjoyable to work with the co-workers, teaching them as well as learning from them along the way.

There was no forseeable part of the job that was hard.

The most enjoyable part of the job was when everyone was helping each other out when the customer contact was heavy.

Working as a student worker at Union County College is a great start for a job. You get to work with your fellow students and with people who are like mentors. At first, you make new friends. Later on, you make a family. That is how much I love working at Union County College’s Student Services Center. You help other students register for classes, help them register for financial aid, see if there are any problems with their financial aid, and more. I would highly recommend working as a student worker at Union County College because you’re working with other students whom you can relate to and I believe it is a great start to get your foot in the door, not just at UCC, but in any college or university that has work-study.

I enjoyed working there while in school, it taught me alot about what goes on behind the educational system. I worked with people that really care about the students, their educational needs and desires, keeping their accounts up to date and in good standing with the college. I also learned that keeping up with your finances is as important as the education that you are receiving. It was a very rewarding experience and I regret that it ended when I graduated because of the program restrictions.

I teach on a part time basis and i most enjoy inspiring 150 in the areas of social psych, personality, general psych and women's issue. The students' energy is synergistic and provides me with positive vibrations.  I treasure each and every student and the opportunity to enrich their lives.  My classes are full of dialogue and a lot of give and take.  The biggest challenge is to end after the class as I want to keep going.  Lecturing and teaching also happens to be the most enjoyable part of the day.  My coworkers are friendly, warm and supportive......I really appreciate them.   

If you're looking for a place to start working while taking classes at Union County College, you won't find much better than working at the Academic Learning Center. Work days are relatively easy-going, and they even tailor your work schedule around your class schedule. Working there also gets you some experience in customer service, which, I'd say, would help most people in the future when entering the workforce after college. All in all, the ALC is a great place to work if you want a little extra money while also taking classes.

For the time being a Counselor at Union County College, through the Yes We Can Program working with Elizabeth High school students have been a great experience. Unfortunately, due to New Jersey's budget cuts, this position no longer became available. However, I was able to take away from this experience , skills of management and being accountable of my actions as well as increasing the importance of clear communication between myself, students, supervising the mentors and the Program Director.

I have learned customer service skills and tutoring skills at union county college. I have increased my analytical ability at union county college. My customer service and analytical skills are valuable in education and business.

A typical day at work involves tutoring college students in various subjects that are mathematical in nature. Students are at all different ability levels and ages but all are adults.

My math skills have become very strong as a result of being a tutor at union county college. I enjoy the job a lot because I interact with the public.

The management team is comprised of a group of young professionals who give young professionals a bad name. They are trying to apply corporate  business principles to higher education administration will nilly instead of focusing on what is truly in the best interest of the students. Meanwhile, if student services tries to offer comforts like food at events or essentials like reserve textbooks for students who can't afford them. Yet, they have money for huge bonuses for non-union administrators and pipe and drum bands.
