Cons: Unreasonable productivity standards, productivity standards are unevenly dispersed between clinicians/programs, lots of pressure to burn yourself out for company profit, upper management values profit more than client care, pressures clinicians to risk their licensure for the sake of bringing in more money, lots of pressure to facilitate groups and coerce clients into group treatment despite client need, high turnover and little necessary change to keep employees, makes clinicians do the work of 3-4 employees without reasonable incentive, unfair employee treatment and bonus opportunities between staff and programs, upper management won’t help pay for clinician certifications, will only pay for some trainings, not enough PTO or leave benefits, only occasionally offers degrading and minor incentives like taxed gift cards or an extra hour of PTO instead of what is actually needed, poor and often unnecessary competitive workplace environment and rude staff interaction, doesn’t pay interns or recognize their contribution, doesn’t allow staff to have paid co-facilitators for groups despite a pressure to run groups, confusing communication practices, expects clinicians to do more than what’s possible in limited timed assessments, silently encourages clinicians to work from home off the clock to finish paperwork, pay is still too low and minor raises still don’t meet cost of living reality, poor supervision. 

Pros: Some okayish benefits, some flexibility, lots of opportunities to change positions within the company.

Experience is that this organization is disorganized and plays favorites. The turnover is insane. So many people quit. From what was experienced, it's hostile, backstabbing and gossipy. It's stressful and unrealistic. Lots of burnout. Management is disconnected and out of touch. They don't seem to care about employees, seems like they only care what employees can do for them. Unison claims to be supportive of employee mental health, self-care and work/life balance, but didn't experience that at all. Training was a joke - full of  junior high drama and no one knew what was going on and we got thrown into the field without knowing how to do our jobs properly. Productivity expectations are unrealistic. The salary might look nice but the place is damaging for many people. Beware. 

My direct supervisors were wonderful.  They were supportive and worked collaboratively with you to help lighten your load.  However, their superiors who were in charge of operations were awful.  Several people were getting laid off to try and "conserve money," causing the rest of the employees to take on more work that one could not complete within a single day/work week. Currently, the agency is more concerned about "quantity" than "quality," due to Medicaid redesign.  If these things were to change, I would have stayed.  Unfortunately, the work culture began to contradict the agency's mission statement.

I’ve valued the opportunity to serve underserved populations at Unison. However, the productivity demands and high caseloads often left me feeling overwhelmed and dissatisfied. Despite this, the flexibility to work from home sometimes and have a condensed work week was a saving grace. Didn’t love being forced to run groups for company profit. Despite these challenges, the organization's commitment to providing mental health support to those in need is commendable. With improvements in workload management and more emphasis on individual therapy, Unison could better support both its clients and its clinicians.

Unison Health focuses on high quality clinical care.  The leadership cares about the clients and the staff. 2020 was a tough time for everyone one but I was supported, encouraged, and empowered. There are new initiatives focused on improving customer service experience, improving diversity and inclusion, and financial well being for staff. I feel appreciated and I feel like I am making a difference in the lives of those I serve in my community.

This company has a high turnover rate in multiple departments due to the company not caring for their employees as they should. The company likes to preach that they are supportive of your mental health and self-care and work-life balance, but there is no work-life balance or support from any managers or higher ups or HR. You will be set up for failure. Productivity expectations are impossible and unrealistic. This company has caused more emotional and mental stress than any other job or company. I would not recommend working here at all.

I would be cautious with this company especially if you are working as a clinician/therapist.  It is not a friendly workplace nor a place where people seem to have a positive attitude. My supervisor was not honest with me about the job terms and conditions, excessively micromanaged, and spoke to me in a condescending manner. There is a sarcastic undertone that is not healthy nor productive for anyone. I was also given minimal training and expected to know all of the ins and outs of the job in two weeks which is impossible. Please stay away!

Many colleagues that were team players and honored your abilities and skill set were great to work with, including most managers.
Providers were great to work with and very kind. 
Clients were wonderful to work with and care for. 
Detox center rife with micro-managing, cliques, favoritism, and managers gossipping about staff with other staff. 
Pay is great. Benefits are okay. There is a lot of restructuring going on due to state law re-design.

It has been said publicly by the mental health board president that Unison is “hemorrhaging money.”  Unison had had 2 recent rounds of layoffs.  They had been losing money for well over a year and had to go into debt (use credit) because the CEO spent too much.  The place is unorganized and the training is terrible. Good people work there, it’s just kind of a mess right now. I’d stay away until they become more stable.

I enjoyed my time within this agency, however there was new management that took over the agency during my employment. At that time, many changes were being implemented and the changes were too done too quickly. These changes caused a ton of turmoil for the clinicians and many fled the scene. The workplace is extremely fast-paced, stressful, and caseloads were very high due to large turn-over rates.
