Lack of leadership, management likes to micromanage things they can’t even meet goals on.  

The training is not organized , and it lacks structure or guidance to properly learn your job.   Most of the time the trainer shows you a few things and then you’re left alone for moat of your training.  They only show you the bare minimum and then expect you to fill in the blanks somehow as a new hire. 

ADVICE TO MANAGEMENT 

Start by caring  about you’re employee’s actual success and long term career goals that most people entering the workforce are aiming for as an outcome from an employer. 

Refrain from causing unnecessary stress to an already stressful situation as a new hire trying to learn their job,  you can micromanage someone in the learning stage, it causes very unhealthy workplace stress and anxiety , and affects. Persons ability to learn and build confidence in the learning phase. 

It’s not good to push expectations of quality when the training provided lacks the capacity to deliver quality information in order for a new hire to be successful.

The requirement to meet production expectations within a 90 day probationary period is not attainable if the supervisor themselves repeatedly states that it’ll take at least a year to learn the job, especially if only given partial information periodically and then expected to figure out the rest of your job as you go , and then receive unfair blame for mistakes made due to the lack of training and the contradictory information on processes and procedures provided to you  new hire by their direct supervisor and trainer . 

It would make more sense to not combine expectations on meeting certain quality and production standards, when obviously, production isn’t attainable without quality which comes from understanding the job which is not reachable if not given the proper tools from those meant to help you to be successful . 

When given the opportunity to have a Q&A with new employees , please understand that those times are actually meant to gather feedback on how the employee is performing or receiving training, and to filter out any gaps that may be hindering the employee in being successful .

If a employee clearly relays to you that they have received contradictory information which resulted in them making mistake, as a person of leadership , it’s not good practice to take feedback personal  but rather to correct what’s causing the gap in learning even if it’s the supervisor and trainer who is responsible, don’t push unfair blame on the employee and then basically criticize them as if they lack the ability to learn or retain knowledge, a person can only utilize the given information provided to them to do their job correctly,. 

PERSONEL/ Human resource 

It’s a good idea to know and understand the colorado state labor laws as well as your company’s own bylaws if your going to be working in Human Resources 

If an employee  has an issue with their direct supervisor and reports this to  because the employee is seeking some type of mediation situation,  it probably isn’t a good idea nor is it legal or ethical to allow the same supervisor the employee made a complaint about or has a conflict of interest with ; to allow that same supervisor to review the employees  performance and make decisions on whether to terminate them based on performances when the complaint was also brought to the attention of the supervisor before HR interference and the supervisor responded defensively and hostile which would bring on the question of unfair performances reviews and  retaliation due to the conflict of interest  between employee  and supervisor
( violations of labor laws and EEOC) 

Executives

Before expressing that CU Medicine strives for Integrity and Excellence and wanting to build up there employees, you may want to make sure that mid level managers are also living up to your same values as a whole because how the mid level managers and supervisors treat the employees , is a reflection of the entire company, and if a company has unhappy and unhealthy and under valued employees , then that causes a boomerang effect on how patients are treated, not purposely by the employee but when you feel undervalued , under trained , it’s inevitable for a employee to lack the proper confidence and skill to to provide exceptional customer service , which now sends the customer the feeling of not being valued . 


What is the best part of working at the company?
The company is great , great benefits, paid holidays, medical  insurance, dental and vision.  


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You are only one person, but stress is they given you more work. Productive and numbers of perfection , 90% . Once they train you. You’re on your own , must be a self learned, training re touch/ refresh course, are small and limited. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Working remote- brings less call in.Productivity  went up. We meet once mo.,as  a team. The company it self is great. Some of the managers are competitive and if their team don’t make them shine, they rebel .  Unable to complain to above that managers boss , favorites are there. 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Pull view up , all emails request. Follow up from email. Try to meet productive of 50 claims. It can be done , if you have no phones coming in, and making calls to insurances on add’l information does take time. BOT are not coming  correctly.  If you for work for any medical billing, are not short and simple and cut and dry.  Extra work is given , with no excuse's. Your appeals are great when you can upload in a portal. Having systems that talk nice also helps  in your transition day.This Co did invest it this . You become  self taught on how to handle your work load.

Meaningful to work with doctors and PAs/NPs and everyone has a sense of place and the objective of the group. Biggest problem was that administrative management answers to the final say of the chief medical doctor of the division so even if you are asked your feedback that doctor will choose whoever they think will do best. I had one good manager who was replaced by a terrible manager.

Group is positive and non-toxic. Diversity is presented as very important, but the organization still has a hard time hiring and retaining POC. Job tasks are well defined but hiring is slow and inefficient. Management always looks to 'trim fat' so you may be hired to do one role that vaguely incorporates lots of different work.

And, as always for university hospitals, pay is terrible.

When the pandemic hit I was surprised how fast they had a plan to have us work remote and executed the transition amazingly. Thanks to how they handled this situation I have not missed a check yet and so far I was the only one in my household not affected financially. They even provide therapy sessions and a paid two week leave if you need to take care of things due to COVID like kids or family. I heard first hand that at our sister companies they initially did not allow their employees to work from home, whereas management was allowed to, and then a month later they moved everyone remote. Overall I am very pleased I found this company and even have received a promotion while in quarantine. 

If you enjoy coding, this is a good place to work. There are opportunities to advance and try other specialties if you excel in your position. Downside is there has been a lot of turnover in management and they are overwhelmed. Don't expect a quick response to emails or issue. Management usually doesn't understand the day to day work flow and processes in individual departments. The work culture depends on your department-each one has a bad apple so to speak. The benefits are fantastic. They offer a lot of time off and allow flexibility with your schedule. The pay is comparable to other companies. If you don't mind sitting at your desk all day trying to hit production this might be the place for you.  

Health and dental insurance were the biggest pros. Coworkers were great. The leadership/management is the biggest con. Regardless of skills and qualifications, there is no room for advancement unless you win the high school popularity contest. Micromanagement and lack of accountability from leadership are also common there.

A typical day at work would consist of working out of queues. The most enjoyable part of working the job is the help and assistance from co workers. Very helpful staff when it comes to getting the work done. they try to boost moral but some people are just not interested and it makes it hard when everyone does not participate. the pay is great but getting paid once a month can be hard to manage.

This place is horrible. From HR to management to department Directors. Company changes who you report to often making it difficult to meet their expectations.  No true leadership, really toxic gossipy enviroment. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Excellent pay and benefits. To much top management positions and not enough workers to get work done.  Unrealistic demands.  All in all, a good company to work for but expect long hours, overworked and unrealistic task/deadlines in just about every Dept.

amazing system to learn in, doesn't value individual workers like it should. i've had a great education and love the people i work with. but the actual system, whether UCH or CU medicine, doesn't pay competitively or even value its individual workers like it should.
