It can be really confusing, but at KU Med you will either work for one of two "sides." These are the "University side" which primarily employs research and academic staff and some clinical outpatient staff at (medical assistants, some nurses, etc.), or the "Health System/Hospital side" which primarily employs inpatient clinical staff such as nurses, technicians, pharmacists, housekeeping, patient billing/schedulers, etc. I worked in research on the "University side," technically making me a state employee and receiving different benefits and falling under different policies than those on the "Health System/Hospital side," so I can only speak about my experiences. Compared to other hospitals and organizations in the area, research staff here are paid less to be frank. It is great experience and will look great on your resume, and the "University side" benefits are fantastic (annual preventitive care covered in full every year, great vision/dental options, life insurance, an easy and free continuing education program to lower your premium rate significantly after 1 year of service, PTO, retirement, etc) but know the pay range for your job title and negotiate your starting pay when you first are hired as  it can really be hard to increase unless you are promoted with a change in job title. If not, you may actually work with job responsibilities that fall under those of a higher position title and pay, so knowing local pay rates for your reponsibilities rather than job title and negotiating your starting pay is very important, and something I wish I would have done looking back. I was hired with no direct experience in research, but with experience in the medical field and with the patient population, so I am very grateful for the opportunity and experience I gained and this is a great place to start. I left in order to advance my career and earn a deserving pay, but recommend it for anyone breaking into the field. Also, it's good to know that regardless of which "side" you work for, you do have to pay for parking depending on which lot or garage you choose, the rate decreasing the further away you get from the main part of campus right at 39th and rainbow, but you can opt to have the monthly parking fees come out of your biweekly pay check.

I worked at KU three years ago and lets just say my experience was less then what was expected. I was given the impression that KU was one of the best hospitals to work for by the posters and soon found this to be not the case. First issue is the attendance policy that is a stiff point system to monitor adults capable of coming to work when they are supposed too. Understandable that every job has an attendance policy but this is entirely to the extreme. You get 4 points as new hire and 8 after 90 days for unexcused absences and you lose a 3rd of a point if your late. When you think of a person with a family, especially with young kids. One could come to the conclusion they can be unpredictable. So speaking from that point of you it leaves one with the impression that KU MED just may not be family friendly. Let's not forget that even if you have a doctors excuse for not coming to work you well still be pointed no matter how sick you are. Keep in mind this hospital stresses the safety of patients and other employee's with "If your sick please stay home or we will send you home!" 
Another experience is the horrendous parking situation! VISITORS, PATIENTS AND EMPLOYEES PAY FOR PARKING! If your are an employee, the closer to the building you want to park the more expensive it will be! 
Another fact that may be even more upsetting, is the way you may be payed upon first accepting a job for KU Medical Center. You will not be paid a full check until a month later and your benefits at least medical will be more expensive then other hospitals. 
Last but not least, sometimes I felt as though, there may have been an aura of job title discrimination. Sometimes it seems as though if you weren't a Physician or RN with an Advanced Degree your opinion is not valued or even taken into consideration but this is just an opinion. 
This is based on personal experience to give potential job hunters a little insight into what the experience maybe like to work for this company. In respect some people love it and some don't and just may have more positive experiences. Honestly if the issue above were addressed I would work there again but my guess is, it's unlikely.

I enjoy moving and being interactive with individuals. I prefer to be up and going and staying busy. I love to read and increase my personal knowledge everyday. I think it is important to do what you enjoy most, and to keep achieving higher education about what you love. I like the type of environment when people are motivating and inviting. I like to work among team members who encourage you to take risks and truly believe in not only their only capabilities but yours as well. I believe the people you work with can truly make-or-break what type of experiences you have in your daily life. They can shape what type of mental and emotional well-being that you experience. However they are not the only factor. I believe you should truly enjoy making others happy with your services. Helping others is one of my favorite things to do. I love seeing smiles on peoples faces and enjoy feeling the positive energy I have given someone to conquer something they did not believe they could prior. 
Overall I enjoy a fun and interactive type of job site. I love working with motivating peers and like to see the work I have done really show upon the individuals I work with. I want people to truly enjoy what I have to offer and receive all of the benefits they deserve. I would like to be put in a position to do that and I believe that putting myself in this type of climate will allow me to facilitate success for not only my clients but for the individuals I am working with as well.

The simulation center is a cutting edge department that regularly engages in team-based innovation, especially in the tech team. The technicians and technologists are tasked with delivering simulation for learners from both the hospital and university side using high-fidelity manikins (pulses, blood pressure, breathing, heart rate, talking, and even OB c-sections and delivery) and integrating other hospital equipment for a realistic learner experience. The tech team schedule is dictated by the center schedule, so hours can be challenging and vary from 7am to 6pm but typically 40-45 hours per week. The team is a great group of people who regularly assist each other with tasks and problem-solving. The whole team has an all-hand-on-deck sort of feel. I have worked in a wide array of industries (agriculture, food manufacturing, construction equipment manufacturing) and this is the best group of people I have worked with.

This is one of the worst places to work. it's plain and simple, the management is unorganized and the captains and higher up management DO NOT stand up for their officers. They are always making up new rules and then don't follow through with them or only enforce them on certain officers. To be honest, if you're a former police officer you will make it here, but if you aren't then don't bother applying. The male captain in charge of security here is buddy buddy with one of the officers and he favors him and doesn't enforce any rules towards him. The just had a hiring session back in May and June of 2017. They started with 39 people then they took 19 out of those 39 applicants, but out of those 19 applicants only 10 went onto the third stage of the process. They ended up only hiring 3 people total out of those 39 people to begin with. People are always quitting here due to the day to day political bs that goes on around here. Overall I would not work here unless its your last option.

•	Tracked Case Report Forms and clinical data flows
•	Distributed all fax requests to appropriate departments and companies
•	Trained other employees in data entry, coding, and database management

As a Patient Care Tech, you come into work prepared for anything because at 1930 when you are officially on the clock every day will be different. From acuity, call lights, care, behaviors, and even staff and assistance. Being at KU what I can say is that compared to other facilities that I have worked at I have learned a lot medically more than I did anywhere else. It is always a opportunity to learn and expand your growth at KU. The workplace culture is pretty fair. They try to have incentives and fun opportunities for the employees. I think it could use a little more TLC. The hardest part about working on the oncology and hematology unit is just seeing and experiencing the changes in daily life and behavior of our patients as well as seeing many young patients. The most enjoyable part of this job is putting a smile on our patients' faces and allowing them to feel loved and properly cared for.

I worked 11a -11p.Upon arrival i would get 3-4 transfers from ICU from 11a -2 pm.Was using critical thinking at all times these were fragile patients ,only a day post up.Overwhelming at times because they were very sick..
   I learned to be quick on my feet ,think quick.I also learned to go 8 -10 hrs without breaks.I learned to work under intense pressure.
   Management was new because it was a new unit she was busy learning everything like the rest of us but when needed she was there ,supportive of us all.
     Coworkers all were supportive of one another.We were all l earning to know the job,the patients and each other. 
      The hardest part of the job was not to get a lunch break from time to time.To see the non compliant patients return after rejecting their new organs.
     The most enjoyable part was to see how the compliant patients did not reject their livers.

I participated in various research projects along with the other interns and fellows and it was great learning experience. I have contributed to different projects including Tikosyn and Sotalol initiation, LINQ data, VT data, Incidental findings, Lead Extraction data, updating Lariat and Radar data on regular basis. I also gave presentation on EP lab protocols, participated in grand rounds, where I was able to get valuable information on new developments and advances in the field of Cardiology from distinguished and well known Professors. I had shadowed EP fellow and nurse in EP lab, where they taught me about different procedures for correcting heart rhythm disorders. I had case discussion with Electrophysiologists, cardiac fellows, regarding pre-ablation, post ablation and post device status of patients involved in our studies. I also got opportunity to get myself familiarize with Epic Hyperspace for electronic medical records.
