TL;DR
Management is unfair to employees, there is good insurance and benefits, there is no work life balance.
I am not really sure where to start, it all depends I guess on the position you were hired in for, and who your management team is. When I first got hired in they were willing to work around my other job, and answered any questions I might have. But that was really it. I was a float, so I moved between different departments, and different hours, I was never scheduled nights, holidays or weekends, which was nice, I only had to work them, if I offered to pick them up. That is where it gets messy. I was diversely (not very well) trained, so I picked up shifts, all the time, I spent more time at work in the summer, then I did actually working. I needed the money, it was a easy and fast way to accumulate PTO, but the problem is, it was always us little people working, while management got to stay home and enjoy their regular lives. If there was a call off during the weekend, don't even try to contact management to help you out, they won't answer their phones. Have an issue with that and send that complaint up to HR? HR will just send your complaint right back to the people you have issues/concerns with. If you don't have kids, they expect you to work any and all open shifts. I've been told "you don't have kids, can you work this shift?" Which is very upsetting, you don't know why I don't have kids. It could be for personal reasons, or for medical reasons. That doesn't mean I want to work all the time. 
The schedule comes out three months in advance, which is really nice to plan things, but also horrible to plan things. If you have a doctors appointment, or a kids program, and  you need it off, you either have to trade shifts with someone, call in sick, or miss the appointment. They will not excuse you for any type of appointments. I've had to cancel doctors appointments because "no one can cover you for an hour" and had to go to a clinic on my one day off. 
We got an email sent out to us about using PTO to avoid work burnout in the workplace. While the intentions are good, we have to ask for PTO three months in advance, so by the time you get time off, you are already burned out and grouchy.
Even when we were short staff, and had call offs, most of management was out of the building before 5 because they have "done their time" which is very discouraging and unprofessional, in my opinion
UMHWest has a points system for attendance and tardiness, but how you get points is all management depending. So basically, if you are late and you are a horrible employee, they won't write you up. But if you are a wonderful employee and you show up late by 3 minutes, you will get a point. There are people here who have more points then required to be terminated, but they let them stay because that would require them filling in for that employee. 
I was pulled into a meeting once, and it was  a very unprofessional meeting, and there was no third party to weigh in and mediate the meeting.  I was called names, and then was told to never speak of said meeting. I had a job interview the next day for a different company. 
We had our key player manager leave, and not once did anyone say there were here to support us, or tell us it was going to be okay. Instead they went about their role as normal, and asked us three employees to pick up shifts while there are holes in the schedule. 
You have a cell phone? Don't even think about it, they have a very strict policy for EMPLOYEES, but if you are the manager, have your phone out, it's okay. I pulled mine out once to text my sister to see how she was doing Post-Op, and they threatened to write me up. I was told that patients might think I am taking pictures of them or their chart. My phone was never in view of a patient. 
I have really enjoyed all the learning I've had in the different departments, the doctors and nurses I have worked alongside with, but the unfair treatment of management was enough to make me leave. 

I needed to complete externship hours and was asked to come to Metro Health. The manager I worked for was head of multiple offices and locations, so I had the opportunity to work between many different specialty offices, including an onsite hospital office. I loved the duties, and the employees were friendly at most places. They were definately good at showing me the ropes and giving me responsibilities when they had something for me to do. I was complemented on my confidence, skills, and patient care techniques that I demonstrated during my time there. However, I mainly dealt with the assistant manager because the main one was "too busy," and was never very personal with me at all. I had MULTIPLE coworkers tell me that they would love for me to come to work with them permanently many different times. But when I finished my externship and gave the manager my exit paperwork to finish, she brushed it off until the last minute. When I was able to read how they scored me, it was completely opposite of the good work that I was led to believe I had done. I feel as though they just wrote things down because they didn't really know, never really observed, and didn't have the time to truly ask and rate my skills. Even the school liason that works between the externship sites and the school was surprised at their lack of care about what I contributed. I would love to work for metro as an official employee, but I would not choose to work for the manager I had. I know too many people that love their jobs there, so I'm very optimistic with experiencing other offices and positions that will be more positive.

As a medication reconciliation technician, I am in charge of collecting prior to admission medications from patients within the hospital. I am in a leadership position where I have to make clinical and ethical decisions based on patient information. I have to make sure that the medications are entered into the computer system accurately to help prevent medication errors. I also take part in various projects that include updating and writing policies for the pharmacy department. As well as update the training program for the pharmacy department that I helped create and initiate in 2010. My director of pharmacy is very helpful in making sure that I learn all that I can and grow into my role and goals that I aiming for. My coworkers are very helpful, we all work as a team and make sure that know one is left behind. It is very hard to make sure that the communication line is open and understandable. I have to create an environment for our patients that allows them to feel comfortable to speak with me about their medications and why they take them. The most enjoyable part of the position is communicating with attendants and residents about patient medications and helping them create a complete profile of prior to admission medications to help make sure that the hospitals patients stay safe while they stay at the hospital.

While the building and the daily staff are truly wonderful—fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and support among those in the trenches—the organizational culture remains a significant hurdle. It is a decent starting point to gain experience, but the toxic "clique" environment means that career longevity is often determined by office politics rather than merit; crossing the wrong person can effectively stall your progress. Furthermore, the compensation is deeply concerning, with many employees earning several dollars less per hour than their counterparts at competing organizations for the same workload. It’s a place where you will love your coworkers, but you’ll likely find yourself overworked and significantly underpaid.

A typical work day in this unique position initially consisted of trying to assess what to prioritize for clinic needs due to the fact that the temporary position was to fill in for 5 prior clinic staff members during a clinic re-organization under new ownership. As I was able to learn the incredibly comprehensive software, I was able to add more tasks in my position to integrate with the costly software to help make my job, as well as newly hired staff members' jobs more efficient. As a personal friend to the owning family, this was a delicate situation where my job consisted of transitioning patients to new ownership where my position was to help patients see a value in the clinic rather than going elsewhere while being empathetic to their needs. Additionally, the position included routine reports to the owners, inventory, patient treatment notations, training new staff members and interns, reports to Pima Medical Institute regarding interns and some marketing.

4:00 a.m. my day began. I made it to work 15 minutes early so I could get my medical tray ready as well as getting my draws that Im assigned to for my morning rounds. Im on the floor at 4:00 at my first patients room. I usually have between 25 to 30 patients to do. I make sure that all of my draws are done before 6:00 a.m. Once I make it back to the lab I help the lab tech's with the incoming blood coming to the lab through the shoot coming from ER,ICU, OB, and long term patients that the nurses are assigned to draw. By 8: 00 its time us to do rounds. Rounds are done every hour on the hour. in between that time the phlebs that are left in the lab we continue to answer the lights and input the blood info into the computer. The day is over at 12:30.

It has been a while now, but I won't forget the friendly caring atmosphere I had at Metro Health. I really wish they would have extended my contract.

A typical day at work: Look through requisitions at candidates and screen the candidates if they meet guidelines for hiring. Put together their pre-hire files. Check candidate backgrounds and reference checks. Interview by in person, or via telephone. Put together a candidate profile to present to the hiring managers.

The culture of the company is to be in constant improvement, caring for others and to be professional. Everyone was nice in the workplace. I think the hardest part of the job was when I had to leave. The most enjoyable was my co-workers and helping people find work. I did not have a lot of management to do my job--I'm a self starter and not in need of constant supervision.

A typical day starts off by reviewing the schedule with our nursing staff and how we will coordinate with our team to get the job done effectively.  With that, our doctor will arrive shortly after our meeting in the morning needing a detailed list of patients and procedures for the day.  Once we are all on the same page, it's time to tackle our schedule.  

The workplace culture is fantastic because everyone is working as a team no matter what you do or who you are as an employee.  We all understand that we have rolls to fulfill for our patients.  Generally speaking, for the most days, all employees are in great moods and love living in the moment.  

The hardest part of the job is when there is a situation with a patient that we cannot, as a team, help them.  Intervention wasn't the answer or the solution.  

The most enjoyable part of my job are the people I work with, the overall environment and the patients we help!

I worked in the Professional Billing dept and the Management did not respect their employees that worked under them, but demanded respect for themselves,  If you had the audacity to stand up to them, you would find yourself on the wrong end of a reprimand!!  That, combined will less than competitive wages has good, loyal employees seeking employment elsewhere.  Sadly, usually outside the organization.  While Metro Health as a whole, has some good benefits, avoid this dept.  It is not a good work environment and you will soon regret your decision unless you're only using it as a stepping stone to obtain experience in the medical billing/coding area and then moving on.  Management is horrible in this department!

excellent benefits, but they have a history of laying off non clinical employees when they have financial difficulties -- I worked in collections of past due accounts and also took customer service calls and they found it more economical to just send accounts to a collection agency rather than have the necessary volume of employees to handle past due accounts, give them the tools to locate individuals through Accurint or TLO (which are excellent skiptracing tools). I think the financial management needs a wake up call to bring them in to the current century. I have done collections since 1979 so I believe I have enough experience to make such a call.
