The company offers good benefits on paper, including three weeks of PTO, but there are stipulations around when and how you can actually use it. Company policies seem to change frequently, and it can be difficult to get clear answers or consistent direction from leadership.

They often promote the idea of “promoting from within,” but the reality does not always match that message. When internal employees apply for positions, applications may be denied, or employees may even be discouraged from continuing to apply. I was told that the company does not train people for the roles they apply for and that you are expected to already have the required experience or certifications. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be much support in helping employees obtain those certifications or grow into those roles.

Overall, the company presents itself well from the outside, but the internal experience does not always live up to that image. The mission of helping patients is meaningful, and working with patients who genuinely want help can make the job worthwhile. However, trying to reach and engage patients who do not want assistance can become extremely frustrating. If patients do not answer calls or texts, employees are expected to use tools like TransUnion to locate them and continue trying to make contact. At times, the amount of effort required to track patients down feels excessive and unrealistic.

The concept behind the company is strong, and the work itself has value. However, the execution, business practices, communication, leadership consistency, and employee relations need serious improvement. The idea is brilliant, but the way it is currently carried out is extremely disappointing.



I worked as a Care Specialist at Upward Health, and unfortunately, my experience was not positive. While one of the few pros was the flexibility to somewhat manage my own schedule, the cons far outweighed the benefits.

Management was disorganized and did not value employee work-life balance. The constant changes made it difficult to provide consistent care, and leadership often promoted individuals with less experience rather than those truly qualified. Additionally, the job required excessive travel without adequate consideration for employees’ time and well-being.

The company has a high turnover rate, which speaks volumes about the work environment. Overall, it was not a rewarding experience, and I would not recommend it to those looking for stability or supportive leadership.

You will be told that you can create your own schedule. This is a lie. You must clock in at a certain time every day.  You will be told that you can exercise independence and flexibility in this role. This is also a lie.  You must take a lunch break within a pre-authorized time frame and you cannot get over time but MUST be available if you are needed after hours. They will tell you all 100 of your patient caseload will live within a 45 mile radius of your home, but most of them live up to 2 hours away from you.  Your SCO will micromanage you, your SCO will not be properly trained for their position nor will they train you properly for yours. You will enjoy working with the patients, meeting your coworkers, the hourly pay/mileage reimbursement and benefits, but this job will be temporary. 

A glorified telemarketing job, except you’re forced to drive to their homes too. My onboarding experience was very rough. My drug test was “lost” and my start date got delayed more than once. Person in charge of my onboarding was very disorganized and would lose paperwork. I had to ask repeatedly for days on end before I was even told who my supervisor was. I was constantly gaslit about expectations which seemed to change on a weekly basis often without notice. They expected us to conduct unsolicited door to door visits to patients who didn’t answer the phone which ends up being most patients. The metrics are outrageous. My supervisor was a terrible communicator who was often late to or completely absent from our one on one meetings. This place works as a placeholder only. I wouldn’t recommend anyone try to build a career with upward

What is the best part of working at the company?
0 stars would not recommend!! They give you a caseload of about 30 patients whose charts and reports are already past due and expect you to update everything all while keeping track of your appointments. Which is impossible. I left this company in August  there has been at least 3 ppl in my position since then and it’s only October.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Trying to complete work for patients you didn’t have and make up work you didn’t fall short on.

Stressful and unorganized!!! No real training just ppl telling you how management should do things but nothing changes.

Don't recommend.  I was hired for one role then after i started they made my hiring group do another role bc there was not enough work for the role we were originally hired for. We had no options. We were supposed to be work from home but again we weren't.  We had to go out and see patients and outreach. They did compensate for miles so that was good. But if you want a true work from home this is not it. This job also works hands on with the community. You have to search for people who may be homeless or live in unsafe neighborhoods.  You can't carry any protection either. So be safe and really be sure you are ready to be put in some crazy situations. 

Unorganized. Traveling to multiple unsafe neighborhoods. Extreme miles on vehicle. No safety plan put in place for employees. Expects employees to enter pt’s homes even if it’s not safe to do so. Zoom calls consist of discussing pt’s. Management is unprofessional and entertains mess/drama. Workload is very overwhelming.  Offer programs but don’t have the proper resources for pt’s. When pt’s become longitudinal you then become a telemarketer- constant calls everyday/week until the answered. Pop up door knocks to pt’s home. Chasing down pt’s for 30 days. Weekly expectations is unrealistic. 

At the beginning training really wasn’t helpful but once you get the hang of things and learn the system and get comfortable, the job becomes easy and rewarding . If you’re a people person and don’t mind helping out others than this is the perfect job for you not a job that overwork you, but sometimes metrics and calls can be stressful especially on days when patients are rude.

The metrics. However, the metrics wasn't so difficult, but that's because I'm just a natural anxious person anyway.

Calls, interactions with patients all day, helping them get connected to their own care team

Very stressful,  extremely high caseload,  traveling to very high crime areas, your job description changes every other day, pay for the amount of work you do doesn't add up, not worth it. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Too many patients,  too many changes,  expectations are ridiculous,  management doesn't care, they only care about numbers and money.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Morning meetings where they discuss patients and break all HIPAA laws, patients are not part of their care.
