A typical work day is 12 hours long with no breaks or lunches as they don't schedule you to work with anyone else. You, if hired at certain houses during weekdays 7 am-7 pm, must be a qualified driver of either 9-passenger vans or large wheelchair buses and you are required to load and unload all of your own residents in all types of weather. You are also forced to take residents to doctor appointments, hair appointments,  community outings, etc., and if other drivers call out or are on vacation you are forced to drive the extra routes even if that means you must drive to extra houses, day programs, etc. On a typical day you could spend 2-4 hours driving. They expect too much of the staff who drive. There is very poor management in this company both in and outside of HR. When you work during weekdays, you are required to work at the day program called Pathways in which there is no program director so the employees basically do whatever they wish to do or not do. Most of them just sit on their phones and do not take care of the residents. Management does expect DSPs to clean the day program, do garbage, clean all of the bathrooms, sweep and mop, etc. They do not employ a janitorial service as they are too cheap. This company does not take good care of it's residents. The houses residents live in are often in disrepair or are extremely worn and unclean. Residents are forced to attend day program even if they are very physically disabled or elderly and do not want to go. Residents are forced to go to day program even if they are ill. Residents have no proper furniture, especially medical beds or proper living room seating. As a DSP of a house that had 4 residents the food budget was so bad that often residents were not given proper nutrition and DSPs often bought food for the residents with their own money. The workplace culture is flat out horrible. The benefits are sad and healthcare is so expensive you cannot afford it. The only perk benefit was free $30,000 life insurance. The hourly wage is as per typical of the medical field very poor. The only way to make enough money in this role is to work over 60 hrs per week. Honestly, this company is really not worth your time and level of dedication.

I have worked at Vista Care for roughly 2 years, there have been ups and downs just like any job but overall changes that have been made are definitely for the better. Vista Care is growing and changing because it’s succeeding and we have a fantastic administrative team that works diligently for the future of our individuals, to ensure a comfortable, safe, happy, environment individuals can thrive in. Vista Care stands by the bonuses they offer for retention and sign on, and sometimes we get a bonus just because! Our Service and Support Directors aré exactly that, they actually DO serve and support not only the individuals but the staff as well. We have ongoing training which we are paid for to ensure we are up to date per State and Vista Care standard (which are high) we are not a rinky dink company with uneducated people running it, our administration team is highly educated and well informed on any given task at hand, egos are left at the door and everyone is treated with dignity and respect. To be a part of Vista Care has been an eye opener for me, especially after working at an alike Company in the area which has absolutely nothing on Vista Care! Joining our Direct Care Team has been a great experience for me and I’m confident that we will continue to grow, learn, thrive and flourish as a company that TRULY cares about the individuals and the employees of Vista Care. 

I start each day be listening to Team line, report from RNs and on-call staff.  Check voice mail.  Submit team line for distribution to all staff members.  Attend stand-up.  Sort and distribute admission paperwork.  Support RN s, CNAs, SWs, and SCC in challenges as they begin their day.  Field phone calls from pharmacy, DME, and patients/caregivers.  complete employee evaluations.  Counseling with staff that are not fulfilling their obligation to patients.  Review pharmacy costs, DME costs, and other expenditures.  All paperwork needed for patient recertification.  Put out fires!

I have learned the need for organization and time management and have developed the ability to multi-task without becoming frustrated.

Management at this site are minimally supportive of staff.  My style of management is supporting my team in any of their challenges and teaching staff how to provide the very best care possible.

I appreciate the chance to work with people who enjoy their job and strive for excellence.  My co-workers have chosen to work in Hospice, often a difficult emotional taxing job.

The hardest part of this position is working with minimal support from management.  

The most enjoyable part of the job is the people that I work with and the satisfaction of completing all my responsibilities of each day and also taking the time to talk to patients/caregivers and know that I am able to help them during this difficult time in their life.

They tell you all the great things they do for clients as well as staff but it’s all lies. They just need bodies and prefer non adept, poorly trained non thinking individuals who will agree to everything said. There are countless staff that have tried to promote to higher positions but are never given a chance while others who have no time or training or similar work experience gets the positions due to playing the “yes man” card. If you think it’s so great just start to ask questions about any operation of the programs and the reply is going to be...” If you think you know a better way...You Don’t “. 
They have no problem disrupting your life with their demands to meet their needs but not compensating you for it. They move you from one program to another including one town to another with no notice, claim you only are working 12 hr shifts but if your relief doesn’t show up your stuck for up to 16 hrs or more, or like in one program your now required to work a 16 hr shift. They do pretty much what they want and drive all the good staff away while keeping the turnover rate of staff at  a pace they themselves can’t keep up with leaving you to be expected to pick up the shifts. 
Managers know nothing of professionalism are the worst at gossiping and as stated earlier they don’t care one iota about your personal needs.

I worked at Vista Care for several months, and unfortunately, I can’t recommend this company to anyone looking for a stable or respectful work environment.

The management is disorganized at nearly every level. Communication is poor, and if you’re not constantly following up on things like promised raises or shift details, they simply don’t happen. Speaking of raises—after three months, you're eligible for a raise, but it’s literally just a few cents, and only if you stay on top of it.

The benefits are nearly non-existent. The PTO policy is laughable, and the health insurance options are bare-bones at best. There’s very little offered in terms of support or incentives for staff.

The job itself can be emotionally demanding, especially when working with clients who have mental disabilities. Unfortunately, they often ignore proper staff-to-client ratios. It's not unusual to find yourself alone with three or more clients, which is not only unsafe but unfair to both staff and clients.

There are far better opportunities out there—places that will value your work and actually have systems in place that benefit both employees and clients. If you're considering Vista Care, do yourself a favor and keep looking.

Stay away from this place. Supervisors don’t know their jobs and talk badly about their staff members. They expect you to overwork yourself. If you’re a veteran or if you have medical issues, they do not care. This is behavioral health, but they make it seem like it’s a walk in the park and an enjoyable job. This location is severely understaffed. Dangerously understaffed, as some individuals can act out and adequate staff is not required. They don’t appreciate the employees that are willing to go above and beyond, those are the ones who usually get fired. They play favorites. The employees that make friends with the supervisors get away with everything. Individuals that are taken care of here are not fully taken care of. Individuals don’t have proper diets/meals. I do not recommend working here. Before the holidays, we were told that there was not going to be a big Christmas party, just a local small one. Then we were told no party, but at least we would get the Christmas bonus still. Had to find out from another employee on social media that no one was getting the holiday bonus. There is no balance between work and your life. 

I have been working for Vista care almost 2 years. I absolutely love my job. I am given help when I need it, my supervisor has always been good to me. Work life balance is amazing, Family is very important to this company and it shows. I work in a small office, and everyone is wonderful. Complaints are handled professionally. If I ever have a concern, I can talk to my supervisor and have no worry of judgement. They really do care about their employees. They want to see everyone succeed and they truly try to adjust things to see that happen. I do not like the health insurance aspect but other than that I literally have no complaints. The work load that I do is very easy to manage, and even when the load is a bit high, if I ask for help I get it. I look forward to coming to work. I get paid well for the position I am in. I have not been able to say that for any place I have worked. I LIKE going to work everyday.  I am appreciated for what I do, and they make a point to show me that. I am told on a daily that I do a good job and that they are happy I am here. That is a pretty awesome feeling. 

Working in this industry is rewarding, but this company does not care about their employees. 

I learned a lot in my role, but management ultimately drove me out. New people were coming in, and made so many changes — some good, and some bad. They never took the time to get to know the people they leading. They were also scrutinizing my work all the time — even when I followed their rules to a T. They’d still circle back and find something wrong with what I’d done. It was exhausting to be micromanaged. On top of that, their communication was so poor that it was like they expected you to read their minds. They act like they told you something, and then discipline you when you don’t know at all what they’re talking about.

Another reason that drove me out was that they had downsized our team by half. We were working as hard as we could, but it was never enough for the leaders. They had “promoted” me, but never gave me an offer letter or a raise for the extra effort I was putting in. I was exploited, and I watched the same leaders exploit other hard workers in our department. 

At Vista Care, the RIGHT leaders will reward their employees. Unfortunately, not everyone in a leadership role here is the right fit to be a leader.

Terrible leadership who cares more about the bottom line than client care. As a for-profit company, they're acting more open about profits than any other "human service" agency I've worked for. As they opened a crisis services branch they treated the crisis counselors like day treatment or CBRF workers. While day treatment is important it does not take the same type of education or skill and the company did not provide support or leadership to manage this. The "district manager" was toxic, overbearing, and then would disappear during the work day while she was on the schedule to perform personal tasks that took her out of the city and county.. She never took her on-call shifts as a supervisor and never answered her phone when crises occurred. When she was around she found reasons to criticize people and tried to manage outside her area of license and scope of practice and did not listen to other managers who were lienced and skilled in those areas. I've never seen such low staff morale in a company or such high turnover. They are always hiring because they are always burning people out of the business. Run far away. Anywhere but here. 

The pay was amazing but the job it's self was dangerous & unstable. By this I mean that the management was horrible along with the back stabbing from co- workers. The individuals that we were taking care of weren't given any real form of mental stimulation nor were they really given much interaction despite having staff there 24/7. Majority of time, we were left to fend for ourselves due to the fact that our superior believed that "mistakes/ what if's don't happen here". Then you had the fact that the AD would promise things to our individuals that would ultimately lead to a behavior due to these things not happening. Things promised to the individuals were rarely given due to either; the promises being pure lies or the promises NOT being properly communicate to the staff which would end up putting the staff at risk. This job was constantly stressful and anxiety filled due to a variety of reasons; never knowing when you were truly going home, when/ if your individual was going to go into a behavior, if a promise had been made and not fulfilled, if the person you were working with knew what they were doing, etc.
