VIC cares about the individual patient.  We want to make sure patients get the right care and necessary follow through, while always being concerned and thoughtful of the cost to patients.  The organization has career pathways so people learn and improve on job skills and move into different jobs such as urgent care tech, limited x-ray tech.  They encourage growth of the individual. VIC is involved both openly and behind seen in many community projects.  Known as an organization/ company that says yes to finding solutions to community issues, such as when Covid hit and the Alameda fire destroyed so many homes. It is an organization I have always felt proud to be a part of and to know that we are respected in the community, both by patient's and other healthcare organizations for our dedication to our patients, and the community. I like coming to work, I like the people I work with.  It is a family.


For the majority of my time with the company I worked a very straight forward position which I came in and focused on coding medical charts from the previous day. I had previous coding experience so this required very little training. As the company moved me into other tasks within the billing department I received very little training as to how the company worked within its own organization regarding collecting information from patients and sharing between departments. I received no training on how the billing system worked unless I asked questions from other employees who then seemed too overwhelmed within their position to take the time to share the information. 

With regards to management and administration the company places people in management that lack the training or ability to follow through on the work required. The administration is so focused on growing the business that it neglects to focus on the issues that are created by the lack of training with the current employees. The company does not send refunds back to patients that have over paid on the accounts instead wait for the patients to call and request the refund. In most cases these patient don't even realize that they were over charged. I felt uncomfortable with this and when I approached the administration I was told that I needed to follow company policy.

I wish I could give this company a better review, but I can't do it. No one is held accountable for ANYTHING. People call in sick ALL the time, and management seems to do what they want, when they want. If you are actually good at your job, you are thrown to the wolves one way or another. Forget about getting a raise or timely reviews; they just don't happen. Managers can leave early anytime they want, change the schedules anytime they want and things get revamped to accommodate their personal lives. Now, to their credit, when YOU have personal stuff going on, they will work with you in regards to the schedule. The pay is great, but they do not offer a 401k to save for retirement. When traveling from clinic to clinic, things are not consistent. People like to do things their own way, and if you try to follow the rules, you become the bug that needs to be squashed and done away with. 

The executives either are not aware of things or just don't care (because I have had discussions with some of them) as to what goes on. This company could be 10x the company it is if upper management would put their foot down and reorganize the company to hold people (staff AND outside companies they service) accountable for their actions. Don't try to please everyone because you can't. Some people need to be told NO in order to run a successful, thriving business. 

I have only worked for this company for the past two months and so far my experience here was disgusting. I had trash thrown at me by a gentleman that is 60+ years old and when I asked him not to throw trash at me I was told that I was in his way when the manager was made aware nothing was done. The urgent care technicians do not clean any room after a patient occupies the room. They do not sterilize their equipment properly at all and when I made us aware it was completely ignored as well. I tried to organize and to properly stock their rooms seeing as I have had providers at the clinic tell me that the rooms need to be stocked properly and when I did I had everything that I stocked taken out and said that that is not the way that we do it. They are not willing to work with your schedule if you are in school. I went to lunch one day and let my coworker know and while at lunch I was stopped and told that I was not supposed to go at lunch at this time because I got here later than this manager that told me this and that this is not how it works. He got there at seven I got there at nine and it was two in the afternoon and apparently I have to wait till later to go to lunch even though we do not have us at lunchtime. DO NOT WORK HERE IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This is a wonderful company to work with, though sadly I had to leave after six years.  They are a strong employer of neurodiverse individuals and treat everyone with compassion and respect.  They have high expectations, but will allow a person to grow into their job.  I recommend highly and hope to return there someday. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I spent most of my adulthood working as a medical transcriptionist, and had to retrain for general office work and learn multitasking.  That was the most stressful part of job (rewiring work habits).  However, VIC gave me a chance to do that, for which I will always be grateful.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was and continues to be like a family.  People genuinely care about each other and want to celebrate high points, and support with difficult times.  They have high expectations, but also if you follow the rules, work well and dilligently,, and become part of the team, they will help you learn and grow.

Through my externship at Valley Immediate care, I was assigned duties in all aspects of the medical assistant's role. I would perform clinical duties as well as administrative duties. Here I was able to take the skills I learned in the classroom and apply them in real life environments, this allowed me to understand the steps necessary to performing those tasks properly. The people that I worked with were very nice in the aspect of taking the time to teach me things as we went along, However, they also forgot that I was a student from time to time and just went about their day doing things as if I was not there. The hardest part of the job for me was the down time. Since I was not trained on certain things, I found that when we had down time the paid staff had tasks to do that I was not able to perform. I loved working with people from every walk of life. I also loved learning new things and techniques on how to do what I had already learned. I hope that in the future, I can learn more and pass on what I do know to someone else.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Feeling like a valued member of the team. Having the ability to start in one position and cross train into another. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Busy workload at the beginning of the week, less work available toward the end of the week. Specifically in the business office working M-F

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Its like a second family, if I hadn't moved out of the area I would have continued my career at Valley Immediate Care. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Every position had different responsibilities. In the phone room your answering calls and directing callers to the correct department or answering questions appropriately, sorting and filing mail, and assisting other departments with overflow work. In the coding department you run morning reports, code visits appropriately, and submit the visits for billing insurance once coded.

The job itself is great, the patients can be awesome but the management sucks. As soon as they don’t like you for whatever reason you will have a target on your back. Everyone’s on edge constantly and nobody gets the support they need. You’re expected to stay late EVERY DAY even if that means you’re there for 14 hours but in the interview they’ll tell you that there’s chances for OT. The amount of drama at each clinic is crazy. The coworkers are actually awesome but there are a lot of clicks so if you’re new it will take a minute for you to be accepted. Get ready for long days and to never be told you’re doing well.

The job is great. The patients are, well, patients. Some great, some not so much. I love doing my actual JOB. But the management, the environment and the overall workings of the company leave much to be desired. Most of the team (especially higher-ups) is all family-related and therein lies most of the problem in my opinion. Some employees work from home ONLY. Some would come and go as they please leaving the rest of us having to pick up the slack. There were no staff meetings or team-building exercises to build morale, and morale was BAD. Because they are family-oriented, they are very lax on needing time off or for emergencies like grabbing your kids from school if needed. The overall structure of the company is very confusing and definitely biased in my opinion.

I worked in maintenance with my husband, who needed extra help.  We worked together as a team, cleaning 5 medical facilities.  It was a lot of work, and traveling.  We thought we did an excellent job, sanitizing and cleaning the 5 facilities.  Out of the blues, we both got laid off and replaced  by a cleaning company.  We were shocked by the news.  You put 150 % into our work, worked with pride, and felt good about our work........and we got laid off.  We cleaned and sanitized the 5 facilities, ordered supplies needed and also distributed them at the facilities.  Management never communicated with you.  My husband and I enjoyed working together.  Everyone was friendly to work with.  We worked graveyard hours.  One difficult manager ruins the happy work atmosphere.
