The only real benefit that I noticed at valley was the drinks in the break rooms. Honestly. I felt like myself and other MA’s were treated very poorly by the actual company itself. The employees in each office were friendly of course because we would try making the most of our days but the managers of each section the lab the MA’s the receptionist didn’t really seem on top of their game. The lab always seemed to have different views on how to do things, there was no communication between the phlebotomists and their supervisor we would schedule meetings to be held every few weeks and in the six months I was there we only ever followed through with one. Neither the Phlebotomists or the Lab seemed to have any actual onboarding process of any sort and no SOP’s in place to know how to do things and where things were if they needed them. There was never any follow through with promises made for getting processed fixed and taken care of. No one really received decent raises even in the midst of covid and a huge era of inflation. 

Working as a Phlebotomist at VWH was mentally draining. Especially since you mostly work alone and as the only phlebotomist at the location. It does depend on where you are scheduled. For example, if you work at the Provo or American Fork offices there are usually two phlebotomists. Which is great unless you get stuck with someone who is on their phone most of the time. It's also hard because the nurses and medical assistants aren't the nicest to the phlebs and usually don't talk to us unless we start the conversation or they need us to do a task for them. A lot of samples you pick up from the nurses & MA's don't have two identifiers or they mix patient information, which is not good at all. My manager was all over the place and never stood up for any of us workers. During the duration of my 6 months before quitting, 10 phlebotomists quit because the work environment and manager became too much to handle. The pay I started at was $14.50, but when I started my job at the hospital I started at $17.50. Only benefits I got from this job was dental insurance and full time being 30 hours instead of 40. After seeing the behind the scenes of this company, I do not recommend working or becoming a patient here. 

I learned so much in the time that I was here.  I was sad to leave. 

This isnt a super slow/chill place to work. You are always busy and always have something to do which I loved. We rotated between a few differences offices that were all with in 10 min of each other which I really liked. Some locations are much busier than others so with the rotation, you dont get burnt out from being to busy and stressed and not bored and unmotivated because the office is super slow. 
This is the first place I have worked at where there are basically no drama whatsoever and everyone is a team player. 

The Job:
Checking in and out patients, update demographics, schedule patients for appointments. Answer calls and do tasks and average clerical work. medical knowledge before will definitely be in your favor.

We get occasional free catered lunched from reps and a great break room, staff, benefits and very well managed. 

You need to love to work with people and giving bad news to patients (i.e late for your appt and cant be seen. need to take a payment, handle upset patients)

My co workers were so awesome, the best part of the job. I actually really enjoyed going into work each day! The doctors are all super nice and attentive to their patients as well. The higher up management is a nightmare. If you need anything the main people to help are not available or do not have any answers for you. Training for the job does not exist and you are left to figure most things out as you go. I enjoyed the patients we worked with and the pay was on par for other jobs in the vicinity. Benefits were great for only one person however, if you have kids good luck paying for it.  

I worked here for 2 years and it was really great with the other MAs and doctors. The management is terrible. Super unprofessional and they don't care about the MAs and work us way to much and we are under paid as well. Good luck ever calling in sick if you can't find your own coverage.  The turnover for the MA position is insane and we were always training new people trying to get them to stay. I am really really sad to leave because the doctors and NPs are so amazing, kind, and overall great to work with. But I can't handle the management. 

If you want to work at a place where you will LOVE your co-workers and workplace environment, then this is a really great place. If you want to get paid even close to market value, move on. They will underpay as much as they can, trusting that you will like your co-workers enough to stay. In their view, you are always replaceable. Which is why the "customer service" is terrible, because they are always having to train new staff and providers. There is no administrative support and they don't even have an HR department, so if you have a complaint, good luck.

Poor management structure that leads to confusion and frustration

toxic. lots of office politics and undermining

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
As the practice administrator I am frequently covering for employees who call out rather than doing my actual job

I loved the people i worked with and my supervisor however the way certain things were managed and handled on a higher up level did not always work and created a harder environment to work in. I also didn't feel that the pay reflected the work required and accomplished well by the employees, especially after experience gained. Seemed hard for the company to retain people which created a high roll over and higher stress as training was never ending.

The coworkers are amazing and everyone enjoys spending time together and being productive and helping each other. The pay is too low for all of the work though. Only pays $13.00 an hour. You have to take 25 or more calls a day and schedule isn't always kept for the hours you are needing to work. You are expected to be at work or find coverage if you can't make it in. Front office manager really cares about her receptionists and helping them feel heard.

I was really sad to leave here. All the providers and staff were pleasant to work with. We rotated between 4 different offices which I loved. Some offices are a lot busier than others so you never were bored staying in a slow office and never got burnt out from staying in the busy offices. we recently had some people leave because of school and moving so we were short staffed for a little bit.
