the job is relentless, and taxing. it’s incredibly rewarding to help vets who need the support - but the management, the lack of flexibility and high stress of this job create toxicity that leaves most employees burned out and chained to their desk. the money is good in the department i worked, however its sales based.  the mission is to take care of vets, and they do, but they do not take care of employees. micromanaging is excessive to the point of getting in trouble for clocking in 1 min early. (this is hourly work with overtime requiring approval- however, your often expected to work late or early just to meet your work load- unpaid.) there is no support or assistance, the middle management is a mix of decent leaders who are overworked and burned out an absolute joke of people who have failed upward and thrive on taking dozens of smoke breaks and making fun of employees. Although this is a virtual position with no face to face with clients, there is no flexibility for working from home.  

The job itself is a mixed bag. It's difficult to stick to processes when guidance change so frequently and leadership doesn't have a clear idea of what to do. You have to be ready to hear stories about PTSD and discuss mental health problems. Be prepared for the full spectrum of working with the public - creepy people, funny people, mean people.

Training is inadequate, guidance is inconsistent, management plays favorites. They disregard when employees report issues with coworkers being inappropriate in the office or with clients. Higher ups are inappropriate with employees, refer clients to significant others' medical practices, and say they care about veterans but when it comes down to it they'll always choose money over people. 


Upper management and HR are  awesome. Owners care about the service provided and about employees. They proactively work to positively impact the Veterans Benefits industry. Overall it’s a great place to work. Pay is fair and commensurate with hard work. Culture is generally laid back and fun, with flexibility as long as you don’t take advantage. Innovate use of technology to improve efficiency and functionality of the job. Near constant change geared to improve the process for clients and employees.

How big of hearts the owners have for their staff.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lots of harassment, people in management positions who do not have the qualifications and lots of verbal abuse from management and HR manager.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture from the owners is great, when you know them on a personal level. The culture from the remainder of the management team is atrocious. A very toxic environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get harassed, talked down to, micromanaged, belittled to the point where showing up for work is the hardest part of your day.

What is the best part of working at the company?
A sense of fulfillment because you're helping veterans in need 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not knowing what changes the management will make every day as they continually restructure the job and tasks required.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Coworkers are mostly pleasant to be around but management does not listen to employees. Managers continuously ignore complaints or reason them as being your own fault. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Clock in, wait for any changes to be implemented, answer calls, input data into and review eligibility of veterans.

The office is very cliquish either management likes you and you get away with doing poorly, calling out sick, taking longer or more breaks. Or they don’t like you and you get written up for everything. Sometimes you are required to work from home even if you have COVID,and still have to meet your quota. 
You aren’t told that your last paycheck is mailed to you.  

8 hour shift, no paid sick time. If you have any reason for time off, it is assumed to be explained. Negative attitudes and micromanaging is the downfall of this company. Outstanding services provided to the veterans, however, in regards of the employees, the pay is ok, there is alot of gossip and emotional unintelligence. 

Veterans Guardian is an amazing company to work for. The leadership team cares about the employees and their development. Everyone is very approachable and wants you to be successful. The majority of employees are veterans, spouses of veterans, and spouses of active-duty military which creates an environment and culture that feels very familiar. Even if there is no military experience in your life and you work at this company it is so easy to support the company and its mission and vision. 

If you miss that military culture, this is definitely the place for you. It's easy to find that motivation to work, as each veteran you help are normally very greatful. Though you will come across vets that forget that they requested your help, and want to tell you how to do your job, or don't want to provide documentation to help themselves. But over all its a great place to work.

I always feels good hearing from Veterans who finally get the help they need. Many are hurting and have tried for years to file a VA claim.
