Upper management is excellent, but it seems to me that the lower you go in the chain of command, the worst it gets. To the point that my immediate manager had no idea how to manage or lead. The lack of management was very frustrating and placed the well-being of the residents in jeopardy. Working there was not easy, mainly because of the lack of support from coworkers and management. There are these groups, clans made of people who have been there forever, who if they don’t approve of you, they will make your life miserable until you quit. I have seen many good workers leave because of this reason. Yes, management is aware of this issue. Another problem that made my job more difficult, was the lack of diversity in the workforce. I was the only non-Creole speaking in the entire department. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love to meet people from other cultures and learn about them. But when Creole is being spoken most of the time, including on work-related issues, it hinders my ability to perform my job. And finally, but probably the most maddening factor for me is the “see something, say nothing” attitude of employees and managers. I have seen and reported so many issues. As an example, I reported an employee not wearing a mask or a face shield inside a resident unit. This was in the middle of the COVID pandemic before vaccines were available. That person no longer works at the VI. The dilemma is that there are people who have been working there for 15 years and never see anything. 

Management is unprofessional, they play the favoritism card a lot and act like they care about you. Vi is known to be "best place to work 2015,16" but really it's the worst place I've ever worked at.  Such a hostile environment because of how management is and makes everyone feel. 

CNAs: they do all the work and never get ackonowleged for it. No appreciatition for their work, are told and felt like that they are not good enough, constantly being watched if you get on their bad side. 

LVNS: they are told not to help out the CNAs even if other CNAs are busy with other residents. They get overwhelmed because they are short staffed. 

People are quitting left and right and management wonders why it's because of how unprofessional they are and how they treat their staff. They are all fake and don't care about you even though they seem too. Please save yourselves and don't work here. I wasted my time, energy, and life here. It makes you mentally and physically exhausted that when you come home from work you cannot do anything else but sleep. If you're going to school do not work here because they will not work with your schedule even though they say they will, and it is not worth the money especially with the amount of work you do.

I personally do enjoy working here, but there have been several issues. If someone calls out sick, the manager on staffing duty doesn't always manage to fill the positions that are needed, leaving us short. We need a minimum of 7 CNA's in the building, and we've been stretched thin to the bare minimum of 3 (it's only happened twice, BUT STILL). There are many benefits to this place- they pay much better than most other facilities that you will go to, the employee culture here, for the most part, is actually really good, we get free Turkeys for Thanksgiving every year, and on top of that, since Housekeeping, Wait Staff, Valet, and Nursing staff cannot accept tips from residents, we do get a bonus every December and every June (average bonus check is anywhere between $500-$900, and that's just for working there). Residents here have a lot of money, so many are very entitled, so be aware (not everyone is like that though). So, in essence, if you need a job with plenty of available overtime, that pays well, and is clean, I'd apply here. I've been here 3 years. It can be very up and down at times with management, but overall, work here is pretty easy. We have a memory support unit, SNF, LTC, and AL, all in a 5 floor building. If you apply, good luck! It may be stressful, but it's really not that bad. May the force be with you!

I have worked at this Community for over 17 years.  I have stayed that long because I feel respected and appreciated for the job I do.  Great quality, benefits and management team.  There are opportunities for professional growth within the organization and community, as well as a fantastic program that offers financial support for education and tuition reimbursement.  The culture of the organization is participative and the team that works here is of the highest caliber.  We have a very rigorous pre-employment process, as we try pull the best of the best.  The reality is that nothing is ever perfect - there are always opportunities for growth, or changes in any business.  If something is not working or needs altered/redeveloped, we do just that.  Changes and willingness to accept those changes openly is what makes a great organization.  I have read some of the poor reviews on this site, and I can only assume that these folks are disgruntled and perhaps even terminated employees.  Take it from a long term employee.. this community earns it "Best Places to Work" title daily.

In my job capacity at Bentley Village, the typical day consisted of meeting the transportation requirements of the community residents, whether it entailed transportation within the community, medical transportation to medical appointments, or bus travel to cultural events.  The most important thing that I learned was that working in this type of setting it is very important to be sensitive and compassionate to the needs of the residents.   The management was sensitive to the needs of the residents as well and promoted a philosophy of enrichment, engagement and enjoyment, as well as being sensitive to the needs of the employees.  Generally, there was a strong atmosphere of teamwork within the workforce.  The most difficult part of the job was experiencing the passing or death of residents with whom a passionate relationship existed, however the most enjoyable part of the job, was the satisfaction at the end of the day, that you brightened someone's day.

The company takes its core values seriously and you see evidence of these from top management to every position hired, in its policies, programs and commitment to service. 

I've never worked at a company that had such high integrity in all my years!  The company is truly resident-centered and employee-focused with lots of great benefits like major medical, 401(k0 where you are fully vested from DAY 1, adequate life insurance, disability benefits, legal assistance, pet insurance, employee assistance program, dental, vision, legal assistance, tuition reimbursement, and other benefits and perks. The company is also very transparent.

Vi also does a careful job hiring and provides plenty of support to employees. The employee recognition programs are SO generous. The best I've ever seen.

Corporate office in Chicago treats local community staff like children either micro-managing or conversely neglecting to support then turning on staff later. Also found some corporate executives routinely blacklisted good staff, blocking them from transfers that were better opportunities. They sold odd 1/2 of company portfolio in 2011 and would sell the rest off too but CCRC too complicated and expensive for anyone to buy.

Locally some staff like kitchen etc really nice but some apathetic delivery if service apparent especially in some places.

Terribly run and losing money every year. Vi tried to include it in sale to Five Star and other possible transactions but no takers.

A typical day is usually fast paced. There is always something to do, or get done, or work on which I personally like. The staff are all very friendly and courteous to each other. Management for the most part are very good...some are better than others. The culture for the most part is always trying to do what is right for the employees whcther that is training, benefits, regular reviews for both the employee and the manager to communicate with each other, recognition of employees thru a couple of programs and quarterly employee meetings with treats and food. The most enjoyable part of my job is interacting with the residents everyday.

I have been working for the Vi family for almost 8 years and undoubtedly anyone can succeed in our company as long as that person is able to deliver the best of her/him on a daily basis and combining the Vi core values: compassion, integrity, and excellence. A typical day at work at the Vi is indeed challenging since our residents and family members are used to a very high standard in the quality of attention and care but it will be so rewarding when all of them: residents/family members, coworkers, and the management team recognize and appreciate that continuous effort in several ways.

I have worked for Vi for almost 4 years now and I LOVE IT! 

The Company truly believes in developing the employees that want to be developed. They do expect the staff to work hard and be accountable which I respect. 

The work is rewarding and the benefits are amazing. I love the staff appreciation parties, the gift cards at Thanksgiving, the recognition gifts and the countless other benefits we receive. 

I feel supported by my team and my manager and I believe that my ideas and suggestions are truly listened to by every member of the management team.
