Ending another Friday this stressed and frustrated honestly says a lot about the current work environment. I think I’m reaching my breaking point with this place. The environment has become so chaotic and stressful that it’s hard to even focus on patient care anymore. Between constant last minute changes, poor communication, favoritism, and management issues, it feels like staff are set up to fail instead of succeed.

One of the biggest ongoing problems has been dealing with some guy on an outreach team we’re apparently supposed to work with now regarding patients. He doesn’t even work directly in our office, but somehow interactions with him constantly create confusion, mixed communication, and unnecessary issues for staff. I’ve personally witnessed situations where accountability got shifted onto office staff instead of the appropriate person taking responsibility. There was even a situation where I ended up getting questioned over something that should have already been handled on his end, but somehow the situation got redirected back onto me. It’s honestly frustrating and exhausting.

At this point, anytime I hear his name involved with one of my patients, I already know there’s probably going to be confusion or unnecessary back and forth attached to it. Communication changes depending on who’s being spoken to, and it creates tension for clinic staff who are already overwhelmed trying to take care of patients.

I will say, a couple of the doctors in the office are genuinely kind and supportive people, and honestly, besides the patients, that’s probably one of the few positive things I can say about working here. Some of the providers truly care and try to maintain a respectful environment despite everything going on around them.

But outside of that, I personally don’t feel protected or supported as staff. A lot of us feel like we get blamed for situations that had little or nothing to do with us, especially when communication breaks down between departments. Instead of problems being addressed fairly, it sometimes feels like accountability gets pushed onto whoever is easiest to point at in the moment. That creates a very tense and uncomfortable work environment.

Management doesn’t really help the situation either. Instead of resolving concerns professionally, problems tend to get brushed around until staff morale drops even more. The environment has started feeling less supportive and more political. I never thought I’d say this because I genuinely enjoy helping patients, but lately I’ve honestly been considering quitting because it’s mentally draining constantly dealing with unnecessary stress, confusion, inconsistent communication, and shifting accountability tied to workplace operations..

Village medical was a great place to work for the first 1.5 years until things started to go downhill. 
End of January 2023, the company decided to lay off nearly half its advanced practice providers out of nowhere. The remaining providers were expected to pick up the workload without any questions asked. The clinic I worked at had a strong team connection and our patient's truly respected our work for them. Village forcibly removed our strongest providers from patient access by firing them without cause. Village promotes convenience and access to high quality medical care - the benefit of Village Medical was that we were open 7 days a week, 7-7 (monday-friday) and 9-5 (sat, sunday) but out of nowhere expected providers to change our schedules to work more days per week with more hours, plus do our follow up work on our days off. Village now does not offer 7 day coverage, will not be open until 7 pm, and are making patients drive an extra 20-30 minutes to other clinics for weekend visits since they closed half of their clinics on the weekend. Village does not understand that many of our patients do not have cars or adequate transportation and the reason they established with us was our close, convenient locations to their homes. Village only cares about medicare patients and do everything in their power to lure them in. they do not care about private or ACCESS/medicaid patients which is something I disagree with. 

The interview process was a breeze. Very informal.  You call in, speak with one manager, if they like what you have to say,  you go to another chatroom for a second interview. I received a call the same day with a job offer. They pay really well, for my area, anyway. The benefits are pretty descent and start immediately which is always good. You will not know your permanent schedule until the second or third week. The training/training team is what sealed the deal for me. There were 40-50 people being trained virtually, with one trainer. We were literally encouraged to NOT ask too many questions as the trainer didn’t have time for each person to ask a question. We were shown slides/videos. If you can learn just by listening, this job may be for you. If you’re a hands-on type learner, this job may not be for you. There were different trainers for different sections. However, each trainer had a different way of doing things. Personally, I stayed confused bc of this. Have you, we were encouraged to not ask questions. So, there wasn’t much room for clarity. I witnessed a couple people getting scolded for trying to gain clarity, including myself. Oddly, the training is recorded. Meaning, the higher-ups can see/hear what’s being said/done. Quite honestly, I felt left behind very early on. Going into week two, my anxiety was through the roof and I no longer felt like this job was a good fit for me. The pay/benefits were great and I loathed having to resign. However, I cannot commit to a job where I receive very little training, cannot ask questions during training and not able to speak to a real live person for assistance when it came to taking live calls. Also, if you needed to speak with HR/Payroll, there wasn’t a phone number. You can only email them. 

this company is clueless on how to run a medical practice. the phones are outsourced to non medical people and it is the expectation of the employees to pick up the phone while rooming patients, assisting providers, sending prescriptions, drawing labs, routing referrals, giving injections, scheduling patients, etc. all the while you're expected to reach goals that you will not be compensated for even if you do reach it.
it should also be noted that your management will determine if you can use pto for missed time. so, if they do not think its important for you to be with a sick family member the day of their surgery and you call out - well, you're just not gonna be paid for it. that's a true story.
the rules and expectations are constantly changing because there is poor/no communication between upper management and the clinics. 
you won't have time to work on your paperwork becuse if there is downtime, you will be moved to a different office/provider. so if patients are needing auth for something, sorry, staff is with patients all day.
staff will not get lunch breaks because there is rarely enough staff to cover for this. better bring your lunch or you'll be going hungry. also, your schedule will likely change daily.
however, there may be room to move up in the company because there is a high turn around rate with the constant burn out- so you may get a management position. unless your office closes down, too!
this is the worst patient care AND worst employer I've ever experienced. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
NO BEST Part!!  Village MEDICAL is a mess for management down to the employees!!   is horrible communication is horrible MA treat the workers up front HORRIBLE   disgruntle employees and when you go and talk to management and how you treated so extremely poorly and disrespectfully they do nothing about it. There’s a lot of weird things going on in that place and all the MAs are so unhappy and disgruntled just miserable and because I am a happy spirited person they frowned upon and they frowned upon me. Just super weird!   Run the other way!!  and to make it even worse the girl upfront to act as she was so superior because her mother worked there it was just a joke and to make it even worse she  said how she does a witchcraft on people!!  run the other way

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
EVERYTHING!!  I stayed as long as I did cause I needed the money the place is horrible the people are horrible the management is horrible they don’t treat anybody with respect they talked down to you there’s no communication and trust me your manager does not care.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There is no work  culture in that place it’s a disaster!!!   Everybody comes and goes as they please.  Especially the MAs!!  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I come in I go in my office and my office is treated like a dump ground there’s boxes and boxes in there after I told the front my office is not your dumping ground.  So the minute I come in I see stress and I feel stressed   and nobody cares!

VillageMD has the potential and the power to be something so great, but there is a reason why the turnover rate is so high and you can't keep people in a position long enough to make any real progression or improvements to the company. I came to Village because I admired their approach to healthcare and I resonated with the vision they have to being a value-based approached healthcare system. This is the new movement for healthcare and they are steadfast in their motives to be a leader in this field. However, they are growing at such an alarming rate, many of their systems and protocols are not sustainable or even scalable to accommodate their size. They want unison amongst the markets, but still keep the work separate, which has many negative downstream effects. As for leadership, it seems a good 75% are sketchy. They want to keep their reports bucketed into one position forever, but within that one position, the employee is performing tasks and initiatives well above what their job description called for. And the leaders that are for their employees, the company "let's them go". It breaks my heart to know that such a well-known organization operates like this and I'm actually saddened to say the least. The hardest part about it all, is that for the hard work you put in, you don't even get a bare minimum amount of recognition for it. I hope this company doesn't self-destruct before it has the real opportunity to make its stamp in the healthcare industry. 

I have been here for years now. It used to be great working here. Now, it is horrible. When hired, you get paid holidays like New Year's, Memorial Day, Christmas Day, and Thanksgiving. The policy was changed for the employees who work different shifts, but only for them. If you try to change shifts, they will not let you do it, even though you were told that your shifts can be changed anytime after you start. The employees who work 12-hour shifts and 4-day work weeks do not get holiday pay.  They nick-pick on everything you do. QA is ridiculous. They change things daily and sometimes hourly. They want robots, and we are humans. There is no perfect person, but they want it. If you are not perfect, expect to fail every QA you get.
We used to get a monthly bonus of up to $1,000.  They stopped giving them along with contributing to your retirement fund every week. Now it’s yearly.  I used to get 100%, but now they are failing. Passing used to be 80%. Then, a month later, it went to 90%, now 95%. You must have ACW 20 seconds. AHT 399 and HOLD at 30 seconds for the month. If you have been in a CSR for a long time, you know we get difficult calls. Some of these are not realistic numbers. I've been in the medical field for years and have never seen offices closed due to a lack of staff that do not want to work for a company. I do not know what they are thinking by changing things daily. They give you no time to adjust to the new change. Do yourself a favor, and don't apply.


I have to say, when there's an issue vocalized, it's heard and there is great effort to correct the issue. I have worked at many places that will "listen" but they never do. Village is not one of these. 
Work/life balance isn't the best but again, I've had worse. They give 4 hours a week admin time but they don't schedule it. That means you end up working through your lunch and doing a lot of charting from home. They will allow quite a bit of control to your schedule such as no back to back new patients. The EMR system is great so the charting is much faster than most plus the charts can be prepped.
You can work 8s, 10s, or 12s, no on-call, but you will work every other weekend (that's if you're attached to a Walgreens). No Walgreens means 8s or 10s but no weekends. 
There's not much room for advancement in the APP world but I've heard that's being worked on. 
The benefits are unbeatable....which is why a lot of people stay. They're generous with their PTO and sick time. They even pay 4 weeks for new parent leave. 401k is about the same as other companies. One minus is that PTO cannot be paid out, hopefully this will change. 40 hours can be rolled over to the next year. You get a floating holiday, 40 hours of volunteer time, and can even "borrow" PTO. 
There's a lot of change at all times but this is a fast growing company, this is to be expected. If you don't like change, this is not the company for you. They do what's best for the patients though, that's their #1 priority. 
Overall, this is a great place to work



Most people who work here are very talented and have relevant experience. That said, I'd refrain working here if you are early on in your career as there isn't a company focus for professional development. VMD is going through an insane growth trajectory paired with lack of standard operating procedures across functions = chaos and stress. There are rarely any company communications from our executives or leaders, so it's unclear whether we are focusing on Walgreens commitments, our own large M&A commitments; we don't have the resources to do it all. Most people you work with are also new to the company; I have worked here less than a year and most of my go-to contacts have been replaced. Work culture is definitely hands-down and willing to help, but that also means the typical employee works well into the night. I've found it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance. This really isn't the place for you if you're looking for clear role definitions or are looking to work in a team environment. Our external commitments to Walgreens have taken priority over all and there's a definitely culture shift taking place at the company, office email politics are at play.

I worked for Village for 3 years and when I first started, the job was great. About a year ago, corporate doesn't seem to know what they want us to do. EVERY SINGLE DAY there is a different email about a new rule that contradicts the one they sent the day before. Everyone in the clinic was always doing something different because we all got the updates at different times. Management people are good people but turn into wolves due to all the stress they're given and tend to take it out on employees. Don't work here if you're not comfortable with favoritism. It is also extremely hard to work with other employees, nobody wants to do anything and I would usually have to pick up the slack. Any patient complaint given to corporate is automatically your fault and management usually doesn't investigate before pointing fingers. Benefits are outstanding but at what cost? Billing doesn't have a clue what they're doing; patient complaints every day due to overcharging and no way to communicate with billing or anyone else outside your clinic. An absolute nightmare. They are extremely competitive with pay- most jobs pay $2 less depending on experience but you will go insane.
