Initially interviewed for Patient Care Representative and was informed that it was actually a sales position in optical and was not listed as such when posted because they weren’t getting any applicants. This was told to me during new hire orientation in front of another new employees . The on boarding process was two weeks and Consisted of rotating through all departments that has nothing to do with your job. Spent one week “training” with someone currently in the position but no training manual. Everything is different  from office to office.  Frequent Saturday rotation (9am-2pm)  which means you are forced to use your PTO or go unpaid for 4hrs since you have to take a 8-9 hr day off when working a Saturday per management to prevent over time. Management does not care about the staff in regards to making the work environment pleasant by dealing with staff that push work off on others. Management does not follow through on  mor stress the importance of the policies to staff. Unpleasant work place and corporate minded practice. Dollar signs are the only thing that matter. Steer clear.

Please listen to all of the previous reviews about VEI. I read the reviews, and boy...I should have listened. The training at this company is almost non existent. Upper management is horrible. 90% of the registration staff are NEW people who have only been there no more than 5 months. Upper management is a joke. They care nothing about your concerns. Also there is a lot of traveling and commuting to various locations. They claim that everyone travels based on the business need, but some did not travel, it was basically done by whom ever they wanted to shuffle around. Upper management needs a lot of guidance. In this company, it is all in "who you know". My advice to anyone thinking about this job....stay away, don't waste your time, too much of a headache wondering which location you will be placed at from day to day, so don't try to plan anything because you will never know which of the 9 locations you will be at.

I enjoyed the job and learned a lot , it being my first job out of school. I was not given sufficient time for training considering I had never had training in cataract. But it was a valuable educational experience.I feel the Institute is continually understaffed. I would start the day setting up procedure rooms for the day, and turn rooms over quickly for the next patient. As well as assisting with the surgery itself. The coworkers were great they tried to teach me as much as possible. But everyone is so busy. I mainly enjoyed working with the patients. They were very sweet  and sometimes scared. A few kind words from you (me) could really calm them down.  I entered the medical profession to help people. I felt like i was doing that.

Virginia Eye Institute is a wonderful company to work for. I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for them for 8    years. 
   I was cross trained to work in the Pre-Op area, PACU, and Laser Department. I looked forward to going to work each day. 
   I must say that the most enjoyable part of the job was working with such a caring staff. We worked together well as a team, and that is important in delivering good patient care. I love working with patients, and enjoyed my time there. 
   The management team is excellent there, and they really care about their employees.
   The physicians are excellent to work for , and really care for their patients, as well as staff the work for them. I would highly recommend  this company.

At this time I am working part-time in the collections department.  Generally my day begins at 8:00 am with phone lines opening and calls being generated out to patients' who have balances due.  There are many guidelines that must be adhered to and review of  these guidelines is essential on a regular basis.  At a certain point "final letters" go out to individuals who have not complied with our payment arrangement.  If there is not a response to this letter, arrangements are made to send the patient to collections.  The most enjoyable part of the day is speaking with our many pleasant patients' while the most difficult part of the job is handling difficult people without irritating or offending them further.

I came to this job with previous experience in the optical field and they treated me like I was STUPID! On top of being treated like I didn’t know anything and like I was beneath everyone else there they refuse to “train” or show you anything. I know the optical world but I didn’t know the software they used yet and never did learn because I was 🔥ed within 2 weeks for no real reason! The turnover rate here is extremely high literally work anywhere else my whole team I got hired in with were 🔥ed as well! The position you’re interviewing for will be back on indeed in about two weeks. The perks of working here are that you’re underpaid and undervalued enjoy! 

This company would have such great potential if the powers that be would simply open their eyes and remove the problems that cause the problems.  Upper management.  Upper management is run sometimes with emotional instability, discriminatory actions (what goes for one employee, does not equate to another employee), they are always hiring new people, because most employees of late, do not stay longer than one year, and many of the older employees have left. Not a fun place to work, no regard for the employee, very money driven, gouging the patients dry, while fattening upper management's pockets.

The amazing Doctor's of Ophthalmology and Optometry.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management.  Very immature and inexperienced people in leadership.  System integration. Not one operating system communications with the other. Lots of unnecessary work.

Depends on which location you're at. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful. Over worked understaffed unappreciated.

I have been with this company for over two years now. I started out as a temp, went to the front desk (Pcr) got promoted to a pcr 2, then showed interest in learning the clinic side and moved to being a tech. Vei paid for my training to learn and paid me on the clock to learn my new position.  This company promotes if you have the drive. I have never been so happy with a company and don't ever plan on leaving. Also with my vacation/pto or sick days they have been flexible and so willing its always been a great experience. 

Virginia Eye Institute - Business office is an amazing work environment cannot recommend it enough. My team has a great supportive Revenue Cycle Director that understands the role and is there for assistance. The benefits are great and there is room for advancement. The business and opportunities continue to grow, and I've been a part of that growth for about 7 years now. Everyone I've worked with helps each other out whenever needed. Your hard work will never go unnoticed!
