There are some truly amazing people working for Virta. Some of the Chief Executives are amazing people to interact with, but there are a lot of fake people working here as well. 

You will likely need to do someone else’s job as well as your own just to keep people happy and don’t expect any semblance of an organized environment here. You would think a company that was founded in 2014 would have their act together by now but they are so far from it that you won’t know how to use half the tools they’ve decided were necessary to waste their money on and throw your way. You will be overworked. If you’re an experienced health coach, you’ll see the jaw-dropping expectations they have of you the moment they tell you how many members they expect ONE person to support.

I have seen countless hard-working and dependable employees suddenly end up without a job because this company has no sense of loyalty and gets rid of people they deem “not a good fit” on the drop of a dime. Your role doesn’t matter. Your tenure doesn’t matter. Your hard work doesn’t matter. They won’t think twice, and they’ll leave you with the least support possible.

If you find yourself working for this company, you MUST protect yourself. Look for work elsewhere and hopefully find a company with real morals and beliefs to help grow.

After spending a few years working at Virta, I've come to realize a lot of executives and senior managers are willing and ready to throw others under the bus to protect themselves quite often. Attrition of tenured staff seems to be a growing problem that HR can't wrap their hands around. They've also been actively asking new hires to put up reviews to help pad their glassdoor numbers. 

It seems pretty common for folks to come in being very excited about the mission/product and grind away for years and then end up, leaving very unsatisfied, realizing it was a lot of smoke and mirrors. I do think the CEO has good intentions but I believe the other C level executives are working hard to protect themselves and their close knit circles, even if that means hurting others and the business in the long run. 

There's also a lot of silos surprisingly for such a young (startup) company where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, and then the finger pointing starts. Usually the loudest executive gets their way and shifts the blame to some other team, who has little to no control with what they're actually having problems with in the first place. 

In the past, I would have recommended Virta as a great place to work, nowadays not so much.

It’s hard to summarize my experience with working at Virta in a short span, but I love it here. Truly.
I have such an incredible manager who validates, strategizes a solution, and wears so many hats yet never makes anyone feel hesitant or bad for reaching out. 

It’s a startup company hitting ten years. We’re in an evolving time in healthcare in general. This combination can be trying. But personally, having a great team getting through a growth patch means more to me than having an easy job being surrounded by the wrong people. Our morale is so high because the culture we work hard to create in the support team. We grind when we need to, we laugh when we can.

I’ve never felt “less than” for being in a non-clinical role. I’ve conversed with our physicians, our engineers, even our CEO at our retreats. No one creates judgement, I’ve never felt the ego radiate. I went on the annual retreat so new and was petrified. I was welcomed warmly and it just further reassured being in the right place. 

 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part is that it was remote work. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The caseload and requirements. Management constantly changes policies and procedures. Fault goes to the coaches when mistakes happen. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic corporate environment passive aggressive threats in constant fear of performance plans or being fired.  No accountability for management when mistakes are made. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long days thousands of members and miscellaneous tasks.  Redundant meaningless task you are reprimanded for efficient work.

I just joined Virta a few weeks ago as an RD/Health coach and I am so impressed by how PASSIONATE everyone is about our work. It truly feels like what we do is meaningful (Reversing Diabetes) and the positivity in the company is absolutely contagious. 

When I was considering 3 different job offers for similar companies, what truly stood out to me about Virta was the culture. Even though I work completely remote, I have felt like I belong to this company from day 1. 

LOVE IT!!!! 

Culture is overall positive and collaborative. The CEO genuinely wants everyone to succeed and there is a "we're all in this together" culture most of the time. There are some "favorites" among the leadership team but everyone is given the opportunity to perform well, and it is what you make of it. It's a startup environment, so tech and resources can be lacking, but if you thrive on a fast pace, change, and feeling like you're making a difference in people's lives, you'll like it.

Virta Health has an amazing mission and daily improves the lives of its patients.  I enjoy the interaction with team members and the collaborative environment.  I also love hearing the impact Virta makes on patient lives.

Co-workers are great at virta, but that is about it. They micromanage you to death and don't listen to employees. Managers give constant feedback that is negative and never actually empower coaches to do better or be better. They say they have unlimited PTO but it is actually frowned upon to go over 20 days (including sick time). Case loads are very high with no end goal. 

Virta is a great company with an important mission. For somebody who can handle a constantly growing role, and provide very fast high quality care for patients, it can be a great role. 

Personally, I found the model of care very difficult to keep up with, and did not feel much support from our team's leadership.

Working hard and well does not get rewarded and does not guarantee longevity. Attrition is high.  They have a lot of great people there and a very good cause. If leadershipt does not start to recognize the good people, they will fail.
