What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with underprivileged people who often don’t have access to care.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is a hidden set number of patients needed for you to see everyday.  15 minute appointments and if someone shows up 30 minutes late they still put them in your schedule.  A few of these everyday and you are way behind.  They offer a productivity “bonus” which is half of what the government gives the clinic for meeting this “minimum number of patients.  Qualifying for this bonus is almost impossible since you have to meet standards of treatment.  Nurse practitioners are given the most complex patients often with no care for years post hospitalization.  Physicians are treated very differently although they say otherwise. Physicians can say no to a late patient but nurse practitioners cannot. Physicians never see 25-26 patients a day like nurse practitioners but they still earn bonuses. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Nurse practitioners are overworked, underpaid and called “providers” to make you feel good but there is a definite divide.  When you collaborate with a physician it is with the understanding the physician will assume care of a patient beyond your training, education and experience.  When you refer to a specialist it is reviewed by a specialist and they tell you what labs to order and imaging.  Once I was told a referral to actually perform subdural injections despite zero training, facility to perform the procedure.  After complaining about the unrealistic “referral”for over a week they “allowed” the poor subject to actually see a provider that could help them.  It was never admitted to be a mistake or oversight.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
25-26 patients a day.  Schedule means nothing.  If your patient shows up 30 minutes late you will be expected to see them even if you say no unless you are a physician. If a patient wants narcotics and other providers (physicians) have turned them down guess what they are put on your schedule anyway.  Lots of patients get mediCal billed fore the visits but the patient often becomes angry or sometimes threatening.  One doctor was threatened and got a restraining order.  She eventually quit due to feeling unsafe when she left work at night.

VCC is a good place to work at. They are amazing the doctors are wonderful! It is one of those jobs where youre just excited and happy to go to work. It is always busy so theres always something to do, most of times. I've learned so many things not from just my co workers but also the doctors they are never too busy to help you or teach you something that you've never done before. My co workers were amazing! I definitely miss most of them. However, there were times in which I did feel that boundary between some of them such as ok you work here I'll help you but dont talk to me or if for them who have more experience know something and youre asking for help sometimes they can be brutes about it which is the downside, even if it is just about 3 or 4 out of the staff from 10 or so. The hardest part of working there I would say was that every month when we had our monthly meeting I always felt that they were mounting us with more work than we can handle and some would rush thru it. Not only that but also the fact that each MA would work with one provider that was good and also bad. Good because it gave us more experience to manage our time according to levels of importance but at the same time less time to go into detail with each patient. Also the fact that they wanted us to work with one provider some of them needed alot of labs, tests to be done and with only just one of us it was too much we had to help each other out which is good, but times we'd get in trouble, or we would ask for someone to help as a float but wouldn't always receive that. The part I enjoyed the most about working there was that I got to experience most of these things with new friends, regular people trying to fulfill our dreams. Also seeing each patient repeteadly was good we got to know each individual, most of them are open with you and share that bond and confidence. Going into the management department I do believe that there could be more improvement in that area. Personally speaking, organization would be the thing that the location I was working with lacked the most along with trust and communication with each of the team.

You will see an exorbitant number of patients daily. 15 min per visit no matter how complicated the patient is. Patients are rarely scheduled appropriately (I.e scheduled with someone who does not perform the kind of care they are seeking, etc) . Referral department is always behind and patients get upset when they go 2-3 months for their referral to be processed. VCC is interested in numbers, even if it means sacrificing quality care. The organization is constantly adding new requirements/job duties without increasing time or resources to complete new duties. Benefits are affordable for physicians but very expensive for everyone else. High turnover rate in all positions, including the highest administrative positions. They hire a lot of new grad NPs without any experience. Ok job for short term experience but they will work you to the bone and you will burn out quickly.

I work with an amazing team at Vista Coomunity Clinic. Everyone here gets along well and we value our relationships. We are all a team and we have each other's back. For me, everyday is different I see different patients at different schools each week. The ages range from 5 - 13 yrs old. The hardest part of my job is advertising the Dental Program at schools, and ensure parents signed the consent forms; so that my team can see the kids for free! 

The most enjoable part of my job is to see all the kids leave my dental van with a happy smile and goody bag, which consits of dental brush, toothpaste, and floss and at times even a sticker! Every day, I 'm learning new dental terminology,as I have no prior experience working in the dental field. I have worked in the healthcare field for five years and just loved that, but it's great learning new things each day!

Vista Community Clinic is a company that helps their employees reach their full potential. While working for the company, I had the opportunity to develop new relationships with other agencies that did the same work. The clinic also sent us to work trips that helped us learn new skills that we could use with our working population. Our programs were also focused in facilitating groups with evidence based practice curriculums focusing on the parents strictly for the community where we worked. Vista Community Clinic is a great place for work, staff work together to solve problems and guide youth and families through the right path by providing them proactive information for youth & families.

The RN desk receives constant phone calls regarding medications, or requiring triage as well as in office triage of walk-in patients. I assist physicians in medical procedures as well as patient teachings. I have improved upon my organizational skills and my efficient and direct way to maintain a calm environment amidst some chaos. Management is lacking and therefore overall effiency and consistant procedure is inadequate, which is the most difficult aspect of my job. The most enjoyable part of my job is educating, communicating and caring for the patients either in house or on the phone.

A typical day can be very stressful and unorganized. Some coworkers are kind and helpful, but others can be rude or dismissive, especially toward new employees. It often feels like management and assistant managers don’t pay much attention or offer real support, and some providers can be disrespectful or impatient.
You’re often overworked for the pay you receive, and upper management makes you feel like just a number rather than a valued employee. At first, I stayed because of a few good people I worked with, but over time it became clear that the workplace lacks proper organization and genuine care for staff. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend working here unless there are major improvements and that’s replacing management.

Working in various positions in at Vista Community Clinic was a meaningful and fulfilling experience. The organization is deeply committed to improving health outcomes for underserved and marginalized communities. I was proud to be part of a team that made a real impact through outreach, education, and compassionate care.
The leadership genuinely supports staff growth, offering opportunities for training and advancement. I always felt encouraged to develop professionally and contribute ideas. The work environment was collaborative, mission-driven, and focused on both community wellness and employee success.
Highly recommend for anyone passionate about healthcare and social impact.

they didn't pay much as they should for all the things they give us to do. The staff were always very friendly though. They kept changing their policies around alot and it was difficult to keep up without the proper training they don't give us. They just hand us a packet of paper and expect for the staff to be pro's at it. The manager would only let one person take overtime, even if it meant for other's overtime pay to be taken away. It was alright for my first job, but after learning how much I could really be making, this job didn't seem like such a keeper. Only because it's pretty flexible.

Staff is under appreciated, it seems like the company cares more about patient quantity than quality. CEO and COO think you as a staff aren't doing much so workload is outrageous with pay that is not even worth the job. You never see higher ups in clinic observing or asking for your opinion on how they can help you, because they never do.   Work environment is awesome, meet great people and connect with patients. There is favoritism in the clinic,  but you have to watch your back because they'll find any reason to fire you even when your doing job.
