A typical day at Watson is clocking in, working in your designated cubicle (if you’re fortunate enough to have one as this frequently changes) drawing the blood of patients and taking specimens back to processing until the end of your shift. Now, you may be asked abruptly to cover regional labs when short staffed, also in reception or in other areas of the lab, and you may be asked to train new employees and either come in early or stay over your shift which none of this will be mentioned in your initial interview. If you are exceptionally good at your job, don’t expect any pay advances or opportunity for growth. You may get more responsibility but for no extra money . Also, if you have a complaint in regards to the working conditions, feel free to take it to management where they will do absolutely nothing but sweep it under the rug & target you for speaking out against anything you don’t agree with. Management as of 2024 is very cliquey, unprofessional and often gaslights their employees. HR isn’t any help either. You can email all you want or even go face to face , nothing gets done. If you plan on working here, use it as a stepping stone to further your education and experience. Take advantage of that minimal tuition reimbursement they offer, gain as much experience as you can and then move on to the next thing. Years ago it would’ve been a great place to retire from, I can not say the same thing now. 

Only work at this facility as a last resort.  The mgmt. is absolutely clueless about how to run a heath care facility.  Watson used to be the employer of choice but the mgmt. has lost sight of what made them, the key is the people who work there.  There is no motivation to work hard at Watson as it will either go unrewarded or unappreciated.  The pay and benefits are way below the area average and it recently took them 4 months to give my evaluation and the tiny pittance they call a raise.  I am a top performer and given the highest raise available to a nurse, which is a total (wait for it) 2% raise for the year.  Woo Hoo, 28 cents for me.  Wow, what a total mess this place is. We are currently being told that we work for the clinic, however, if a MD does something out of line we are told that there is nothing the clinic can as the MD's are partners in the clinic and own it so that there is absolutely no protection from a MD who feels that can act without reproach.  They can and do act like they are untouchable.  I am truly ashamed to work here and am actively looking for employment elsewhere.  By the way, I have worked there a year and half, missed only one day and have no write ups in my file so you can dismiss the opinion that I am a problem employee with a axe to grind.  I am just trying to prevent someone else from suffering the same fate as most of the employees here.

A typical day was enjoying the work done with other department directors to identify problems/solutions and improving work flow/processes. In my position I was able to participate in sotware/hardware contract review and negotiations. We selected and implemented new technology such as virtualization, auditing software and new a new phone system. I did work well with co-workers as a team. I can not say enough for the support management provided for purchases of hardware and sotware and dring ntthe implementation of the HIPAA Security/Privacy Rule. The hardest part of my job was manipulating the resources to support the many systems the clinic had installed. We were able to provide support, upgrade and, upgrades in a timely manner. I enjoyed the changes taking place in the technology, regulations, priorities and, preparing the capital/operational budget.

Work from a report to clean up claims that denied. Worked on the Medicare claim that hit a NCD edit and correct the claim with the diagnosis that fell into the guidelines of that NCD, I also reviewed claims that were sent to my department for coding errors and advised correct billing.   On occation I needed to interpret a lab report which required clinical knowledge and using the coding bookd (e.g., ICD-9-CM, HCPCS and CPT coding books, medical terminolgy was a necessary skill for this position as knowledge in this skill was necessary. Corresponded with providers for claims that were unpaid as well as advise them correct coding to meet the coding guidelines for Medicare and Commercial claims. I did charge entry as well. I learned better organization, work ethic and gained more discipline. I enjoyed working with my co-workers who worked as a team and helped each other out. the most difficult job was getting the providers to respond to my emails and calls to inquire about billing. Most enjoyable part of my job was the challenge and the relationships I developed while there. I recieved two ace rewards for work performance.

It's been a good company to work for their benefits are very good. Everyone I work with is like family. Very high turnover in certain departments and under certain supervisors. The last year or so the clinic has been pushing everyone to do a lot more for the same pay rate, such as combining jobs that usually take more than one person to do but combining for one person to do without any pay increase. They have been trying to bring in more money anyway possible and sadly it is causing employee morale to be very low. They're giving sign-on bonuses to new employees and bringing them in at a higher rate then their current employees. They should be giving bonuses to the employees that have been there for years and years. Do to them piling more on employees patient care has suffered. They don't do company picnics anymore, holiday bonuses,  perfect attendance bonuses, and you have to pay for your own ticket for the Employee Appreciation baseball game.

The Team Leads and Manager have their favorites. They seemed bothered when you ask a questions. You are monitored all day. No breaks on Monday except for a 30 minute lunch. Tues-Fri you have a scheduled break and if you miss it because you are on the phone "too bad". You cannot always take a break because phones are busy. You can expect to on average take over 100 calls a day. You are also expected to make outbound calls in between.

It is not easy as you need to know over 63 different protocols. Dont make a mistake, everything is logged and counted against you. the annual raise (if you get one) is 2%. 

Benefits $2500 deductible for their "own" insurance plan. 80/20 as well after. Cost will be for a single person at least $90 a month based on your selection. They will not cover your spouse unless they have no way of getting their own insurance.

Pay is good, benefits are not. Culture is stressful. 

Tip: There are better companies, don't lock yourself in to this one.

I worked in several different specialty areas during my time with Watson Clinic, as a float nurse until finding areas to settle. Work expectations I would consider as normal. Often monthly inservices for CEU opportunities, but limited seating was a negative. I enjoyed most coworkers. Some good and some bad management. Easy to see who are “favorites” and their bad behaviors ignored. Even worse to complain and my last manager would say who complained for whatever the reason…and of course the person questioned would deny all…creating uncomfortable environments and supporting clique behaviors with no further follow up by that manager. At least if you’re unhappy in one department, many opportunities for lateral transfers. Few opportunities for job advancement is a negative. At the time I worked there, they encouraged new employees to begin as a float nurses to find good “fits” before more permanent placement. 

This company is very outdated and “old school” with their management and operations. Orientation is entirely too long, you basically have to be available COMPLETELY when they offer you the job to get through the hiring process. Their maternity leave is awful if you have not been there longer than a year. There is no opportunity to move up if you are a medical assistant. They should offer positions such as lead MA or clinical coordinator. Staff often hire you with promises of “hands on” work and then you find yourself doing a lot of office work and phone calls. It’s very slow paced compared to larger cities. Your information also spreads quickly through the department. If you have to take “personal” time due to XYZ, the HR, benefits, supervisors and the mailman will know your business. The pay also sucks. I noticed new students getting paid more than experienced MAs

There was no best part working there if anything with my experience being there for 5 years that's the first time that I worked at a place where there was so much chaos

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They do not have enough employees to work they work  you to that and the pay is not enough for how much we had to do. Management was horrible multiple managers supervisors and on top of that the CEO did not comply with what was needed to help the company grow and be successful and peaceful

A lot of favoritism and racist nothing was equal there was always something crooked

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Horrible I spend the 5 years of my life in this place and I've never felt so stressed out and the coworkers they have no work ethic they will speak about patients in front of coworkers

The job itself is not difficult in terms of what is expected of the staff.  Hours are consistent so work/life balance is good.  There is hardly no opportunity for growth within the company other than lateral moves and the tuition reimbursement is a joke so there is no incentivization or support to further your education.  The quality of employee performance overall is not good but there is a lack of interest in changing that from management because staffing is always short and warm bodies are needed in seats so poor performance and attendance is tolerated.  The benefits are pretty fair compared to other employers but the PTO policy could use some work and the tiers for accrual rates based on tenure are long.  I enjoy my job most days but do not see it being a long-term role as it doesn't give me a sense of purpose or making a difference in the ways I know I can.
