In a good location, close to I-5, walking distance to public transportation & food. The office is in a nice, secured building with a free parking garage. Its a smaller office in size with about 30-35 employees in the office F/T. There are social events throughout the year which are usually a really good time. 

Good benefits, decent PTO & a good matching % for 401k. They will pay for courses and tests to obtain designations. Strong focus on relationships with agencies, customers and employees. 

There is a very poor training system in place for new hires and internal promotions. Learn as you go mentality.
Some systems are antiquated which causes delays at times. Systems are slowly being upgraded. 
Knowing what other companies in the area are paying for the same level experience would be wise as wages are below other competitors. 
Any annual bonus is paid on a % of your salary. Even when goals are met, the bonus is minimal in comparison to what other competitors give. 
Annual raises are not in line with the increase of cost of living. 
There is no long term planning between management and employee. Only on a year to year basis and focusing only on the annual given goal.  
Slightly understaffed. 
Lack of proper staffing for management. 
There is a lack of mentorship.
A large employee turnover.

Western National Insurance has been a great place to work for the 10+ years I've been with the company. Among the 'pros' of my personal experience:
- Advancement opportunities: The company has made an effort to develop clear career paths that reward hard work and initiative. They also offer a generous continuing education program that provides financial reimbursement for industry courses, which gives employees even more support to move along those career paths.
- Above-average benefits, especially on the health insurance front.
- Strong senior leadership. They ask the right questions and set the right course. As an employee, I feel like Western National is a well-run, mission-driven place to work.
- Solid work-life balance: Most employees are able to work a standard Monday - Friday schedule without significant overtime/weekend work. PTO is easy to use. In the current age of COVID, employees have the remote work capabilities and schedule flexibility to complete their work safely from home.

Western National is a great place to work. It has its moments like all companies, but they truly care about their employees. Change isnt always the quickest here but seems to be improving. 

Work/life balance seems to be a big focus and the benefits are some of the best I have ever had. Competitive Medical/Dental but also good 401K matching, profit sharing bonus, and a great wellness program.

The technology was a bit behind in the past but has been getting much stronger as of late. Seems like it was a major focus for SR management.

Still some growing pains, but a company where you seem to find a lot of friendly/smiling faces.

Management is supportive to help out when needed. Everyone's ideas and voice are heard and validated. It's rather stressful. Some may say it's a good thing to be this busy. I am often asked to do more than a single person role.

Known a couple people who were going through personal issues and were let go rather quickly due to attendance. 

Good luck getting training or mentorship until it is too late and they are looking to replace you with a fresh new intern.  Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Short-staffed due to constant turnover at the intern/assistant anything level. All tasks take far longer than they should because there are no easy-to-find guidelines and nobody really wants to answer your questions.  Fun fact- ask too many questions and you will get reported to management.

no guides to help employees. No real management here. Employees are nice. VP excludes managers from meetings and do not back up managers when an employee acts out. Mostly, there's no communication as to what upper management requires from employees and no underwriting guides to help the people get their job done, its fly by the seat of your pants. No one is responsible for making sure laws are followed. This co. Needs new sr. Mgmt

I learned a considerable amount there! 
•	I worked at the customer relationship center.
•	I created and reviewed a survey on the effects of happiness in the workplace. 
•	I helped customers with any store related problems. 
•	Finding movies, advising them on which product should be chosen based on their taste.
•	I cleaned the store. I restocked products and scanned new product into the system, also worked as a cashier.

This is a great company that works hard to accomodate and encourage it's employees. From the outset it was made clear  that study of a field of interest within the property and casualty insurance was essential to moving up.

To many projects not enough resources, corporate does not know how to say no so IT is severely understaffed. WN is a reactive company not a company that wants to look ahead. Every system was severely outdated and now they are rushing to get new and updated apps. They are putting bandaids and work arounds on everything instead of completing things correctly.

WN was a very successful, employee centered company and a fun place to work.  Then someone got the bright idea that they should bring in a large number of managers from one outside the company (from a failing company) and the culture has totally gone downhill in the last few years. From team centered to micro-managed.
