Advice to Management

The gap between what is said by firm management and the reality of the work place is significant and growing. Upper management regularly communicates when there is a crisis but not so much otherwise. The staff is never asked how they feel about their work situation or how it might be improved. Either management does not care or are afraid of the responses they would get. With the lack of communication/employee input, the reduction in the quality of benefits over time and the increasing work load pressure the firm is going to suffer long term. Happy talk aside employees know when they are valued and when they are just seen as tools to be squeezed for maximum profit.

In a typical day at work, I had a wide variety of interesting administrative assignments, and some challenging one-time projects (including producing an annual E-Rate manual for a training program).  

I did not care for the management. I found the Office Administrator was focused on the lawyers, and there was no advocate for support staff.  The Administrator had little to no understanding of  our functions as Legal Practice Assistants.  In one case, when a boutique firm merged with our firm, we simply had a group of challenging new attorneys to support "dumped" upon us, with no discussion of the implications of this to our support. 

The most enjoyable part of the job were work friendships with certain individuals.

My experience working at Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP was great.

I have never been treated so badly in my entire 13 year career. I am praised in front of clients and belittled behind closed doors. The levels of dishonest practices is unreal! Write ups right before reviews, staggered work to intentionally keep you from making your billable hours, backbiting, lack of positive feedback, consistent disrespectful language used to describe clients, passive aggressive management, poor treatment of persons in protective classes, lack of diversity, etc.

There is a lot more I want to say here than what the character count can say. The pay was good, the management knew their stuff, and the work was challenging in a great way. Like they always expected more of me and I could give it. I learned different ways of doing data entry, the culture was supportive and fun, but what I didn't like was the lack of clarity for those who are visual learners. It took me a bit to get everything, but I got it.

Womble has a very supportive management structure, clear policies and procedures, in-depth training opportunities, as well as an open and caring workplace culture.  Everyone is professional, kind and helpful.  My temporary contract is coming to a close shortly but I would return in a heartbeat.

Consistent schedule. Work starts around 8:30 and ends at 5. I learned nothing, because i was trained for literally 1 week. It's a sink or swim job. Management is okay. Kind of secretive. the hardest part about the job is its nonstop. the most enjoyable is having your own office. i wouldn't reccomend this to a new paralegal. way too stressful for pay that is under 40k lol. 

Working in the support service role is typically relaxed, but it can switch and become extremely busy in an instant.  The workplace environment is catered to the higher ups and attorneys in the firm, so at times you are reminded of your place on the lower level.  The manager of the service center is really great though.  Does a great job of taking care of the staff in the service center.

Although the company (offices, lawyers, etc.) are growing they do not add support staff to compensate for the "added work".  They just expect you to work harder and faster and not make mistakes.  They have possibly the worse health insurance I have ever seen (definitely the worst I have ever had).  Yearly raise was less than 2% and no were to advance.

Great place to work and very caring law firm.
The computer system is quite involved as most law firms computer systems are but easy to learn. Co-workers are all a very friendly bunch of ladies and will help if anyone is struggling. 
The management are on top of their game and the firm is well structured.
I like where this firm very much.
