The Writing Center was my first real job. I had a lot to learn but it really helped me learn the ropes about what is expected from an employee and how to help others with common (or uncommon) problems during the writing process.

I worked part time and helped students write and proofread their papers before their assignments were due. We helped students on a walk-in basis which meant we were pretty booked when mid-terms and finals started looming in the distance. Usually though we had a lot of time to work on personal development projects and discuss with one another. 

Staff was very friendly and management was good. Generally there was enough time to get to work from class, or clock out to go to the next class if needed. Hours were always set, but co-workers commonly could cover in the event of a vacation or emergency. 

There were of resources at the center to help with writing. I remember most of the time working with students who had source formatting questions. The most difficult part of the job was the misconception students had about the writing center - that going there right before papers were due guaranteed them an A on their paper. Some students expected they would get full understanding of their assignment with just one visit and would be surprised when they found they'd have to come back to follow up. Another issue was cultural differences. International students could have different expectations about their work compared to the university's expectations.

Overall the Writing Center was a great place to work during my time at college. I recommend it to any student with a concentration in English that wants to have an easily accessible part time job while on campus.

This is a typical Office job, I was a student part-time worker here.
Everyday would pass by sending some recruitment emails and retrieving some data from a secure database, scanning some office documents and managing the front desk and attending phone calls from every corner of the globe, occasionally calculating GPA for student admission.

Here in this job, i would meet people coming from various cultures and various countries. This job enhanced my social and people skills and improved my multitasking and time management skills. Also at this job I handled multiple bosses at same time fulfilling their task and needs perfectly.  

Basically, this job made me get used to an office environment and gave me a wholesome experience of what one should do and how one should be in a dynamic and fast paced job.

Being an Engineer, I never found this job hard as it was merely 20 hours per week even during my busy projects and researches from my grad school.

I enjoyed talking to people from different culture and country and also enjoyed the small pep talks from my boss and they molded me into a better office person.

In my job there used to be free food almost everyday, my bosses were so kind that they bought food when they feel the need to appreciate the students and would buy us some food or snacks.

I worked with students with various disabilities: Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Rosenburg Chutorian Syndrome, and Spina Bifida. My work consisted of helping the individuals with showering, toileting, feeding, and accomplishing any tasks that they could not do physically. I learned how to advocate for people with disabilities better, how to treat them equally, and how my part of the job can affect their lives, from a day to day basis. I am really good at following instructions, even if it is coming from a peer of the same age or younger. I am also good at time management, because I have experience working with several people and going to school at the same time. This job was more individualistic, so I never found myself having issues with co-workers. I got along very well with other personal assistants and had great mutual understanding among ourselves. The hardest part of the job was not getting too attached with my clients; however, I believe I did a great job of keeping things professional. The job overall was very enjoyable for me. My supervisor, as well as my co-workers, know me as the most enthusiastic person at my job, because I truly enjoy and love what I do. I enjoy being around people, learning from others, and making my surrounding a very comfortable environment.

The most enjoyable part of my job was my interactions with staff, students and faculty, the people who comprise Wright State University. 

Good people, not perfect, make the institution and its brand and I wouldn't change any part of my experience. We made it through good and bad  times together, but resources must be realigned to support the staff that remains.   

The board of trustees as well as the university leadership, (administration) combine to micromanage all aspects of the university below them while overpaying its chief administrators. Unfortunately, as positions are vacated, the newly created work responsibilities fall to remaining staff who are overworked/underpaid and understaffed already. 

Admittedly, they gave a tacit salary increase for existing staff a year or so ago but it was the first received in about 7 years and it was not in keeping with costs of living. Internally, staff would work for free because there is a lot to love about the institution, but it is frustrating to see your work output/performance expectations continue to grow with no additional assistance/support or additional pay. 

My time as an intern at the Asian and Native American Center at Wright State was truly rewarding in that it afforded me the opportunity to learn a lot about other cultures and participate in/help orchestrate culturally-rich events as well as gain further experience in working in an office environment. 

A typical day at work may include discussion with the directors to see what events were coming up and how we may go about preparing for them/advertising for them. 

Management was very thorough and well-organized and there was never really any major lapses in communication. 

Workplace culture was laid back yet efficient. The daily tasks were normally immediately communicated at the beginning of the day and breaks for progress reviews were taken.

The hardest part of the job, for me, would probably be gathering enough content and information to make big enough pamphlets worth distributing to large quantities of people. I would often have to dig deep in order to find enough pictures to compile for collages, for example. 

The most enjoyable part of the job would be seeing my work be noticed by others and seeing myself grow as a worker.

A typical work day involves being up and in to the office at 8 am.  During the morning hours I handle the logistics for our upcoming season, this includes; hotels, ground and air transportation, setting a travel itinerary, and handling a travel budget.  The second half of my day is set aside for practice and player development.  This includes, developing a practice plan, identifying flaws in players, and creating a game plan to correct the flaw in their game.

While working at Wright State I have grown as a leader, having to coach and mentor players who are about the same age as you has its challenges, but because of those challenges, I have grown into the leader that I am today.

My co-workers are great to work with.  They are always very helpful, and the collaboration between us has been one of the best experiences as an assistant coach.

The hardest part of the job is the pay.

The most enjoyable part of my current position is the interaction between coach and players.  I have had to learn how to cater to different personalities and had to find ways to reach each of them, that way I could teach them to the best of my ability, and they would retain the knowledge.

I worked as a resident assistant for WSU, and the pay was below minimum wage ( you do not get hourly, you get benefits). Upper management in Residence life is unable or unwilling to hold Community Directors accountable, contributing to low morale. The hours are long and stressful, and there are high expectations for documentation. You will be expected in the position to act as a counselor without having the qualifications to do so. The longer you work for the department, the more toxic it becomes. The most enjoyable part is interacting with residents, but even that could not make this job tolerable, at least for me. My coworkers ( fellow RAs) were always very supportive, but also routinely felt the pressure of the job, so we could only offer so much support to each other.   For all the work that you will do, you will be offered no job security and will have to reapply for the position every academic year. Consider your mental health before applying to this position. There are certainly higher-paying positions within the university where you can make a change that is less stressful. 

I cannot speak for any job at Wright State, but my undergraduate research experience is one that I will cherish forever!  I got to spend the summer at a beautiful campus, living in a nice apartment less than a minute away from campus, and learning to use 3D printers!  Part of my job required waiting for hours watching the 3D printer and compression testing machine, making sure they worked properly.  On the plus side, I got a lot of reading done!  In addition, I got to travel to Youngstown, Ohio for tours of a few engineering and manufacturing companies and schools.  I had a lot of fun teaching adults how to use SolidWorks and 3D printers, and I made some new friends.  The best part is, I contributed to a paper that is going to be published!  If the job were being offered again this summer, I would accept it in a heartbeat!

Not every job at Wright State University is like this, I'm sure, but the working environment I experienced seems to be present everywhere on campus.  I would definitely recommend working at Wright State University!

Everyday I would clock in and ask my supervisors what tasks they would like me to complete that day. The job was very flexible with my student schedule, so I would often work between classes. I learned how to operate a variety of different office and design machinery. I worked closely with other students and organizations on campus for events, projects, background checks, fingerprinting, presentations, films, photography, word processing, signage, etc. I worked with some talented intelligent people and the most difficult area was management. The two supervisors I had were often on different pages and would assign overlapped or unapproved assignments which caused some tension here and there. What I found most enjoyable was being the one my boss would come to when they needed something to look professional and be completed on time. This often lead to me doing more work than others, but I really didn't mind.

I worked in this project for more than one and a half years, and most of my results were really hard to explain. Since I was optimizing the methodology for all of my experiments, lab members started to doubt and blame my skills. However, I believed in my skills and technique, so I kept searching the literature. I found that there are three heterozygous single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the transactivation domain that result in loss of the the gene marker for the AhR (CYP1A1) induction by a dioxin (TCDD). I designed a plasmid to test the functionality of the AhR with the CYP1A1 gene expression in our cell line the CL-01 cells. Although our AhR was thought to be functional by mediating the inhibition of TCDD on Ig expression, I found that the CL-01 AhR has the three SNPs and does not have the ability to induce the expression of the CYP1A1 gene. This explained all of my results and led to new reveals and theories.
