Description:
The Quality Manager in Washington reports to Senior Management. In this role you will ensure the company’s equipment meets the standard of excellence our customers expect from project kickoff through delivery, commissioning and operation. Quality is an integral part of the entire process; it cannot be “inspected in” at the end. You will develop and implement a right-size quality management framework while making certain that consistent quality products are delivered to our customers in a way appropriate to our business.
Quality Manager Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent field of study is preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in a quality control role in an engineering or manufacturing environment; preferably in the design, fabrication, and commissioning of large capital equipment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge and demonstrated competence in process-oriented engineered manufacturing systems.
- Independent, self-driven worker with a customer-centric focus.
- Fluency in MS Office tools, including MS Project
- Familiarity and experience with wood products industry, drying, OSB, bioenergy industries.
- Experience working in ISO 9001 or equivalent environment in leadership position.
- Experience checking mechanical drawings, mating parts, fit tolerances, weld notes, paint and coating specifications, etc.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally at up to 50%.
Quality Manager Position Responsibilities:
- Reduce total cost of quality issues.
- Perform regular on-site and remote audits of critical suppliers.
- Perform onsite spot-check inspections at fabrication shops and customer facilities to verify acceptable fabrication and performance of supplied equipment.
- Participate in engineering design reviews for all project phases as QC role; ensuring effective reviews of all equipment and fostering quality-in-design mindset.
- Maintain detailed notes and records for all QC-related work.
- Identify key areas for improvement and implement countermeasures for continuous improvement.
- Generate and report on quality objectives and metrics; report regularly to senior management.
- Extensive travel both domestically and internationally.
- Ensure proper records are maintained for company and externally supplied equipment as delivered to the customer, including relevant certifications.
- Ensure all customer requirements, standards, etc. identified during pre-contracting phase are adhered to during fabrication and installation.
- Develop and grow Quality Control (QC) department, associated built-to-size processes, inspection documentation, etc. in accordance with industry standards.
- Complete drawing reviews to ensure designed items are designed and detailed appropriately.
- Build and maintain approved supplier list, including qualifying suppliers.
