Full Job Description

We are looking for a Controller to join our team in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a Contract position focused on restoring timely and accurate accounting operations. This role will take ownership of overdue reconciliations, support a disciplined close process, and deliver reliable financial reporting to help the business regain visibility into its books. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on accounting expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to organize and complete a significant backlog of work efficiently.

Responsibilities:

Lead efforts to bring bank and general ledger account reconciliations up to date and resolve outstanding discrepancies.
Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation to maintain accurate financial records.
Manage the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and balances are properly reviewed.
Produce monthly financial reports and financial statements that reflect current operating results.
Investigate historical accounting issues, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions where needed.
Maintain accounting records within QuickBooks Desktop while supporting accounting activities tied to the move to QuickBooks Online.
Use Microsoft Excel to analyze account activity, organize reconciliations, and track progress on outstanding items.
Demonstrated experience performing bank reconciliations and account reconciliations in a high-volume accounting environment.
Strong working knowledge of journal entries, month-end close, and monthly financial reporting.
Ability to prepare and review accurate financial statements with close attention to detail.
Hands-on experience using QuickBooks Desktop; familiarity with QuickBooks Online is also required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for account analysis, tracking schedules, and reporting support.
Proven ability to work independently, prioritize a backlog of accounting tasks, and meet deadlines in a Contract role.
