Full Job Description

General Summary:

This role is based in Plymouth, MI and offers a flexible, hybrid work environment. We value in-person collaboration and encourage team members to work from the office approximately two days per week while maintaining flexibility for remote work.

Under general direction, supports purchasing department activities and initiatives for HTNA, collaborating with teams across engineering, quality, R&D, program management, sales, and finance to procure essential materials and components. Obtains competitive pricing, maintains supplier relationships, and ensures purchases and purchasing arrangements meet HTNA's quality standards, production needs, and timelines.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Reviews and supports Request for Quotation (RFQ) activities, analyzes supplier quotations, and prepares cost and supplier comparison analyses
Identifies and recommends suppliers based on criteria such as cost, quality, service, and delivery
Negotiates pricing, delivery terms, and commercial agreements with suppliers within established authority levels
Issues Purchase Orders (POs) for production parts, tooling, and other required items, updating as needed and entering detailed information into databases/reports
Supports Annual Price Reduction (APR) initiatives through supplier negotiations, cost analysis, and value improvement activities
Collaborates with internal teams and suppliers to resolve quality and/or delivery issues, including plant operations and others
Assists in proposing and implementing Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) ideas to drive cost savings
Maintains strong relationships with existing suppliers and assists in developing new partnerships
Supports supplier audits alongside the Quality Assurance team to ensure compliance with standards
Generates and maintains purchasing reports, including cost savings and supplier performance. Communicates results/findings to upper management, as needed
Performs other duties as required

Minimum Level of Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three to five (3-5) years of purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or supplier management experience, preferably within an automotive manufacturing environment.
Experience with Japanese manufacturing or a multi-cultural environment is desirable

Safety Responsibilities:

· Prioritizes and enforces safety for self and others, promoting a strong safety culture in both office and plant settings.

· Encourages team participation in health and safety programs, discourages shortcuts, and ensures consistent enforcement of safety policies.

· Adheres to safe work procedures, including proper use of PPE and work instructions

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience working within ERP/MRP systems (QAD preferred)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Material (BOMs) preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly share complex information. Works well with both internal teams and external partners, building strong relationships. Can adjust communication style to fit different audiences and promote clear understanding
Ability to effectively negotiate contracts, terms, and agreements with vendors, clients, and internal stakeholders to achieve favorable outcomes while maintaining positive relationships and ensuring alignment with company goals
Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with a strong track record of effectively managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Proven ability to prioritize competing demands, maintain attention to detail, and deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities

Work Environment:

Most of the work is performed in an office setting, with occasional exposure to a manufacturing environment. This may include conditions such as noise and/or temperature variations. Hybrid remote working schedule may be available, as determined

Physical Requirements:

Occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 20 lbs. Requires ability to inspect and to evaluate supplier products, components and sites

Travel:

Requires approximately up to 25% travel, with visits to HTNA manufacturing plants, suppliers, and customer locations, as needed. Travel may include some international locations.
