Position Overview
Amy Elizabeth Designs is seeking an experienced Interior Designer to join our growing team. This role is responsible for managing luxury residential and commercial projects from concept through completion while ensuring every detail aligns with AED's design standards and commitment to excellence.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional designer, skilled project manager, and confident communicator who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You will lead client relationships, oversee design development and construction documentation, coordinate with architects, builders, consultants, and vendors, and mentor junior team members throughout the design process.
This is a hands-on leadership position where initiative, accountability, and problem-solving are essential. Our team is proactive, collaborative, and solutions-driven. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign Leadership
- Lead luxury residential and commercial design projects from initial concept through final installation, ensuring every project reflects AED's design standards and client vision.
- Develop innovative design concepts, space plans, furniture layouts, finish selections, custom detailing, and comprehensive design presentations.
- Produce and oversee complete construction documentation, including floor plans, demolition plans, reflected ceiling plans, finish plans, elevations, sections, custom millwork details, schedules, specifications, and technical drawing packages.
- Review and approve design documentation for accuracy, constructability, and adherence to AED standards prior to client and contractor distribution.
- Lead design presentations and confidently communicate design intent, recommendations, and project decisions to clients.
- Research and specify furniture, lighting, plumbing fixtures, finishes, materials, textiles, artwork, and accessories that align with project goals, budgets, and timelines.
- Develop complete furniture and finish specifications, budgets, and procurement packages.
Project Leadership & Construction Administration
- Serve as the primary designer and day-to-day project lead, managing multiple projects simultaneously from design through installation.
- Coordinate with architects, builders, engineers, consultants, vendors, and trades to ensure the successful implementation of the approved design intent.
- Conduct site visits to review construction progress, answer design-related questions, verify field conditions, and identify issues requiring resolution.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, material samples, and RFIs for design compliance.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, procurement timelines, and key milestones while proactively identifying potential challenges.
- Oversee project setup, scheduling, documentation, and workflow management within Mydoma, Asana, and other project management platforms.
- Collaborate with the Principal Designer on project proposals, scope development, design fees, and project planning.
Client & Team Leadership
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients while delivering an exceptional luxury design experience.
- Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the design process, providing proactive communication, leadership, and solutions for dedicated projects
- Lead project meetings with clients, contractors, consultants, and vendors.
- Mentor and provide direction to junior designers, design assistants, and interns by reviewing work, providing constructive feedback, and supporting professional development.
- Resolve design, construction, procurement, and installation challenges while maintaining project schedules and client satisfaction.
Procurement & Installation Oversight
- Oversee furniture and finish procurement in collaboration with the procurement team, ensuring product accuracy, quality, and timely delivery.
- Coordinate receiving, inspections, deliveries, installations, punch lists, and final styling to ensure successful project completion.
- Verify that all installed work aligns with AED's approved design documentation and quality standards.
Studio Leadership
- Contribute to the continued growth and improvement of AED's design processes, standards, templates, and documentation.
- Maintain and expand the firm's material library, vendor relationships, and product resources.
- Support business development, marketing initiatives, professional photography, portfolio development, and industry events as opportunities arise.
- Foster a collaborative, positive, and solution-oriented studio culture while exemplifying AED's commitment to excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or Architecture.
- 8–10 years of professional interior design experience, primarily in luxury residential projects with commercial experience preferred.
- Experience and proficiency in Project Management (both client facing and contractors)
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Chief Architect
- Sketchup is strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Experience with 3D modeling and rendering software is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn Google Workspace, Mydoma, Asana and Canva,
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Professional, confident communicator who works effectively with clients, builders, architects, consultants, vendors, and trades.
- Self-motivated, collaborative, accountable, and committed to delivering an exceptional client experience.
- Passion for thoughtful, timeless, high-end interior design and design-build project execution.
Construction Documentation & Technical Expertise
- Produce complete, construction-ready drawing packages that accurately communicate design intent from concept through construction.
- Develop detailed floor plans, demolition plans, reflected ceiling plans, finish plans, interior elevations, sections, custom millwork drawings, architectural details, finish schedules, and technical specifications.
- Create and detail interior architectural systems, including walls, ceilings, custom cabinetry, built-ins, trim, and other architectural elements.
- Prepare comprehensive finish schedules, material specifications, and construction documentation suitable for contractor pricing, permitting, procurement, and installation.
- Coordinate construction documentation with architects, engineers, builders, consultants, and trades to ensure accuracy, constructability, and seamless project execution.
- Possess a strong understanding of residential construction methods, architectural detailing, building materials, and industry standards, with the ability to identify and resolve design and construction conflicts before implementation.
Work Environment & Compensation
- Office Location: 251 Diversion, Rochester, MI
- Type: This role is currently a part time (3 day a week) contract position with a 90-day probationary period. The position may be partially hybrid if needed.
- Compensation: Wage determined according to potential candidate experience. Range $28-$32 per hour.
