Full Job Description

Position Summary

This position is responsible for planning assignments, performing layout and setup, operating equipment, and making tool adjustments for various manual and CNC machine shop equipment. The role involves working from blueprints, process sheets, and sketches to complete production tasks, including cutting and shaping metal to precise dimensions.

Essential Functions and Duties

Transfer commands from servers to computer numerical control (CNC) modules using computer network connections.
Set up and operate CNC machines to perform one or more machining operations on metal or plastic workpieces.
Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
Ensure workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
Review program specifications or blueprints to determine machine setup, operation sequence, and finished workpiece dimensions.
Monitor machine operation and listen for unusual sounds such as dull cutting tools or excessive vibration; adjust machines as needed.
Remove and replace worn or dull cutting tools.
Modify cutting programs to address issues encountered during machining operations.
Calculate machine speeds, feed rates, and positioning cuts.
Load and lift workpieces onto machines manually or with hoists or cranes.
Monitor and control coolant systems.
Support the implementation of company policies and procedures to maintain a safe and healthy work environment in the manufacturing area.
Perform daily and weekly preventive maintenance in accordance with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices and principles.

Non-Essential Functions and Duties

Perform preventative maintenance or minor machine repairs.
Set up future jobs while machines are running.
Write simple programs for CNC control panels.
Consult with supervisors or managers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors.
Organize shop orders to maximize material utilization and minimize machine setup time.
Follow all machine shop safety and health guidelines.
Maintain a clean work area by sweeping, wiping down machines, and keeping tools organized.
Follow departmental 5S procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CNC machinist operating 5-axis milling machines or lathes.
Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and general computer operation.
Strong understanding of metals and plastics used in machining.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Ability to use a computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).
Ability to communicate verbally.
Ability to see and hear warning signals and alerts throughout the facility.
Ability to read and interpret training materials, safety guidelines, and procedural documents.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to select and apply appropriate mathematical methods and formulas to solve machining-related problems.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical solutions.
Ability to analyze and combine pieces of information to form conclusions, including identifying relationships among seemingly unrelated events.

Pay: $43,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
